Geremia 11

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Questa parola fu rivolta dal Signore a Geremia:	1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh,
2 «Riferisci agli uomini di Giuda e agli abitanti di Gerusalemme: Ascoltate le parole di questa alleanza!	2 'Hear the terms of this covenant; tel them to the people of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
3 Dirai loro: Dice il Signore, Dio d’Israele: Maledetto l’uomo che non ascolta le parole di questa alleanza,	3 Tel them, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Cursed be anyone who will not listen to the terms of thiscovenant
4 che io imposi ai vostri padri quando li feci uscire dalla terra d’Egitto, dal crogiolo di ferro, dicendo: “Ascoltate la mia voce ed eseguite quanto vi comando; allora voi sarete il mio popolo e io sarò il vostro Dio,	4 which I ordained for your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of that iron-foundry. Listen tomy voice, I told them, carry out al my orders, then you wil be my people and I shal be your God,
5 e potrò mantenere il giuramento fatto ai vostri padri di dare loro una terra dove scorrono latte e miele, come oggi possedete”». Io risposi: «Così sia, Signore!».	5 so that I may fulfil the oath I swore to your ancestors, that I may give them a country flowing with milkand honey, as is the case today." ' I replied, 'So be it, Yahweh!'
6 E il Signore mi disse: «Proclama tutte queste parole nelle città di Giuda e nelle strade di Gerusalemme, dicendo: Ascoltate le parole di questa alleanza e mettetele in pratica!	6 Then Yahweh said to me, 'Proclaim al these terms in the towns of Judah and in the streets ofJerusalem, saying, "Listen to the terms of this covenant and obey them.
7 Poiché io più volte ho scongiurato i vostri padri quando li feci uscire dalla terra d’Egitto e fino ad oggi, ammonendoli premurosamente ogni giorno: “Ascoltate la mia voce!”.	7 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, I solemnly warned them, and have persistently warnedthem until today, saying: Listen to my voice.
8 Ma essi non ascoltarono né prestarono orecchio; ognuno seguì la caparbietà del suo cuore malvagio. Perciò ho fatto ricadere su di loro tutte le parole di questa alleanza, che avevo ordinato loro di osservare e non osservarono».	8 But they did not listen, did not pay attention; instead, each followed his own stubborn and wickedinclinations. And against them, in consequence, I put into action the words of this covenant which I had orderedthem to obey and which they had not obeyed." '
9 Il Signore mi disse: «Si è formata una congiura fra gli uomini di Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme;	9 Yahweh said to me, 'Plainly there is conspiracy among the people of Judah and the citizens ofJerusalem.
10 sono ritornati alle iniquità dei loro primi padri, che avevano rifiutato di ascoltare le mie parole, e anch’essi hanno seguito altri dèi per servirli. La casa d’Israele e la casa di Giuda hanno infranto l’alleanza che io avevo concluso con i loro padri.	10 They have reverted to the sins of their ancestors who refused to listen to my words: they too arefol owing other gods and serving them. The House of Israel and the House of Judah have broken my covenantwhich I made with their ancestors.
11 Perciò dice il Signore: Ecco, faccio venire su di loro una sventura alla quale non potranno sfuggire. Allora grideranno verso di me, ma io non li ascolterò;	11 And so, Yahweh says this, "I shal now bring a disaster on them which they cannot escape; they willcal to me for help, but I shal not listen to them.
12 allora le città di Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme alzeranno grida agli dèi ai quali offrono incenso, ma quelli non li salveranno affatto nel tempo della loro sciagura.	12 The towns of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem wil then go and cal for help to the gods to whomthey burn incense, but these will be no help at al to them in their time of distress!
13 Poiché numerosi come le tue città sono i tuoi dèi, o Giuda; numerosi come le strade di Gerusalemme gli altari che avete eretto alla vergogna, altari per bruciare incenso a Baal.	13 "For you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah! You have built as many altars to Shame, asmany incense altars to Baal, as Jerusalem has streets!
14 Tu, poi, non pregare per questo popolo, non innalzare per esso suppliche e preghiere, perché non ascolterò quando mi invocheranno nella loro sventura.	14 "You, for your part, must not intercede for this people, nor raise either plea or prayer on their behalf, for I wil not listen when their distress forces them to cal to me for help."
15 Che fa il mio diletto nella mia casa? Tu hai commesso azioni malvagie. Voti e carne di sacrifici allontanano forse da te la sventura, per poter ancora schiamazzare di gioia?».	15 'What is my beloved doing in my house? She has achieved her wicked plans. Can vows andconsecrated meat turn disaster from you for you to be so happy?
16 Ulivo verde, maestoso, era il nome che il Signore ti aveva imposto. Con grande strepito sono date al fuoco le sue foglie, e i suoi rami sono bruciati.	16 "Green olive-tree covered in fine fruit", was Yahweh's name for you. With a shattering noise he hasset fire to it, its branches are broken.'
17 Il Signore degli eserciti che ti ha piantato annuncia la sventura contro di te, per la malvagità che hanno commesso a proprio danno Israele e Giuda, irritandomi con il bruciare incenso a Baal.	17 And Yahweh Sabaoth, who planted you, has decreed disaster for you because of the evil the Houseof Israel and the House of Judah have done, provoking me by burning incense to Baal.
18 Il Signore me lo ha manifestato e io l’ho saputo; mi ha fatto vedere i loro intrighi.	18 Yahweh informed me and I knew it; you then revealed their scheming to me.
19 E io, come un agnello mansueto che viene portato al macello, non sapevo che tramavano contro di me, e dicevano: «Abbattiamo l’albero nel suo pieno vigore, strappiamolo dalla terra dei viventi; nessuno ricordi più il suo nome».	19 I for my part was like a trustful lamb being led to the slaughterhouse, not knowing the schemes theywere plotting against me, 'Let us destroy the tree in its strength, let us cut him off from the land of the living, sothat his name may no longer be remembered!'
20 Signore degli eserciti, giusto giudice, che provi il cuore e la mente, possa io vedere la tua vendetta su di loro, poiché a te ho affidato la mia causa.	20 Yahweh Sabaoth, whose judgement is upright, tester of motives and thoughts, I shal see yourvengeance on them, for I have revealed my cause to you.
21 Riguardo agli uomini di Anatòt che vogliono la mia vita e mi dicono: «Non profetare nel nome del Signore, se no morirai per mano nostra»,	21 Against the people of Anathoth who are determined to kil me and say to me, 'Do not prophesy in thename of Yahweh or you will die at our hands!'
22 così dice il Signore degli eserciti: «Ecco, li punirò. I loro giovani moriranno di spada, i loro figli e le loro figlie moriranno di fame.	22 Yahweh says this, 'I am about to punish them. Their young people will die by the sword, their sonsand daughters by famine.
23 Non rimarrà di loro alcun superstite, perché manderò la sventura contro gli uomini di Anatòt nell’anno del loro castigo».	23 Not one wil be left when I bring disaster on the people of Anathoth, when the year for punishing themcomes.'
