BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Isacco era vecchio e gli occhi gli si erano così indeboliti che non ci vedeva più. Chiamò il figlio maggiore, Esaù, e gli disse: «Figlio mio». Gli rispose: «Eccomi».	1 When Isaac had grown old, and his eyes were so weak that he could no longer see, he summoned hiselder son Esau. 'Son!' he said, and Esau replied, 'Here I am.'
2 Riprese: «Vedi, io sono vecchio e ignoro il giorno della mia morte.	2 He then said, 'Look, I am old and do not know when I may die.
3 Ebbene, prendi le tue armi, la tua farètra e il tuo arco, va’ in campagna e caccia per me della selvaggina.	3 Now take your weapons, your quiver and bow; go out into the country and hunt me some game.
4 Poi preparami un piatto di mio gusto e portamelo; io lo mangerò affinché possa benedirti prima di morire».	4 Make me the kind of appetising dish I like and bring it to me to eat and I shal give you my specialblessing before I die.'
5 Ora Rebecca ascoltava, mentre Isacco parlava al figlio Esaù. Andò dunque Esaù in campagna a caccia di selvaggina da portare a casa.	5 Rebekah was listening while Isaac was talking to his son Esau. So when Esau went into the country tohunt game for his father,
6 Rebecca disse al figlio Giacobbe: «Ecco, ho sentito tuo padre dire a tuo fratello Esaù:	6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, 'I have just heard your father saying to your brother Esau,
7 “Portami della selvaggina e preparami un piatto, lo mangerò e poi ti benedirò alla presenza del Signore prima di morire”.	7 "Bring me some game and make an appetising dish for me to eat and then I shal bless you inYahweh's presence before I die."
8 Ora, figlio mio, da’ retta a quel che ti ordino.	8 Now, son, listen to me and do as I tel you.
9 Va’ subito al gregge e prendimi di là due bei capretti; io preparerò un piatto per tuo padre, secondo il suo gusto.	9 Go to the flock and bring me back two good kids, so that I can make the kind of special dish yourfather likes.
10 Così tu lo porterai a tuo padre, che ne mangerà, perché ti benedica prima di morire».	10 Then take it to your father for him to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.'
11 Rispose Giacobbe a Rebecca, sua madre: «Sai bene che mio fratello Esaù è peloso, mentre io ho la pelle liscia.	11 Jacob said to his mother Rebekah, 'Look, my brother Esau is hairy, while I am smooth-skinned.
12 Forse mio padre mi toccherà e si accorgerà che mi prendo gioco di lui e attirerò sopra di me una maledizione invece di una benedizione».	12 If my father happens to touch me, he wil see I am cheating him, and I shall bring a curse down onmyself instead of a blessing.'
13 Ma sua madre gli disse: «Ricada pure su di me la tua maledizione, figlio mio! Tu dammi retta e va’ a prendermi i capretti».	13 But his mother replied, 'On me be the curse, my son! Just listen to me; go and fetch me the kids.'
14 Allora egli andò a prenderli e li portò alla madre, così la madre ne fece un piatto secondo il gusto di suo padre.	14 So he went to fetch them and brought them to his mother, and she made the kind of special dish hisfather liked.
15 Rebecca prese i vestiti più belli del figlio maggiore, Esaù, che erano in casa presso di lei, e li fece indossare al figlio minore, Giacobbe;	15 Rebekah took her elder son Esau's best clothes, which she had at home, and dressed her youngerson Jacob in them,
16 con le pelli dei capretti rivestì le sue braccia e la parte liscia del collo.	16 covering his arms and the smooth part of his neck with the skins of the kids.
17 Poi mise in mano a suo figlio Giacobbe il piatto e il pane che aveva preparato.	17 She then handed the special dish and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.
18 Così egli venne dal padre e disse: «Padre mio». Rispose: «Eccomi; chi sei tu, figlio mio?».	18 He went to his father and said, 'Father!' 'Yes?' he replied. 'Which of my sons are you?'
19 Giacobbe rispose al padre: «Io sono Esaù, il tuo primogenito. Ho fatto come tu mi hai ordinato. Àlzati, dunque, siediti e mangia la mia selvaggina, perché tu mi benedica».	19 Jacob said to his father, 'I am Esau your first-born; I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eatsome of the game I have brought and then give me your soul's blessing.'
20 Isacco disse al figlio: «Come hai fatto presto a trovarla, figlio mio!». Rispose: «Il Signore tuo Dio me l’ha fatta capitare davanti».	20 Isaac said to his son, 'Son, how did you succeed so quickly?' He replied, 'Because Yahweh your Godmade things go well for me.'
21 Ma Isacco gli disse: «Avvicìnati e lascia che ti tocchi, figlio mio, per sapere se tu sei proprio il mio figlio Esaù o no».	21 Isaac said to Jacob, 'Come closer, son, so that I can feel you and be sure whether you real y are myson Esau or not.'
22 Giacobbe si avvicinò a Isacco suo padre, il quale lo toccò e disse: «La voce è la voce di Giacobbe, ma le braccia sono le braccia di Esaù».	22 Jacob went closer to his father Isaac, who felt him and said, 'The voice is Jacob's voice but the armsare the arms of Esau!'
23 Così non lo riconobbe, perché le sue braccia erano pelose come le braccia di suo fratello Esaù, e lo benedisse.	23 He did not recognise him since his arms were hairy like his brother Esau's, and so he blessed him.
24 Gli disse ancora: «Tu sei proprio il mio figlio Esaù?». Rispose: «Lo sono».	24 He said, 'Are you real y my son Esau?' And he replied, 'I am.'
25 Allora disse: «Servimi, perché possa mangiare della selvaggina di mio figlio, e ti benedica». Gliene servì ed egli mangiò, gli portò il vino ed egli bevve.	25 Isaac said, 'Serve it to me, so that I can eat my son's game and give you my special blessing.' Heserved it to him and he ate; he offered him wine, and he drank.
26 Poi suo padre Isacco gli disse: «Avvicìnati e baciami, figlio mio!».	26 His father Isaac said to him, 'Come closer, and kiss me, son.'
27 Gli si avvicinò e lo baciò. Isacco aspirò l’odore degli abiti di lui e lo benedisse: «Ecco, l’odore del mio figlio come l’odore di un campo che il Signore ha benedetto.	27 He went closer and kissed his father, who sniffed the smel of his clothes. Then he blessed him,saying: Ah, the smel of my son is like the smel of a fertile field which Yahweh has blessed.
28 Dio ti conceda rugiada dal cielo, terre grasse, frumento e mosto in abbondanza.	28 May God give you dew from heaven, and the richness of the earth, abundance of grain and wine!
29 Popoli ti servano e genti si prostrino davanti a te. Sii il signore dei tuoi fratelli e si prostrino davanti a te i figli di tua madre. Chi ti maledice sia maledetto e chi ti benedice sia benedetto!».	29 Let peoples serve you and nations bow low before you! Be master of your brothers; let your mother'sother sons bow low before you! Accursed be whoever curses you and blessed be whoever blesses you!
30 Isacco aveva appena finito di benedire Giacobbe e Giacobbe si era allontanato dal padre Isacco, quando tornò dalla caccia Esaù, suo fratello.	30 As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob, and just as Jacob was leaving his father Isaac, hisbrother Esau returned from hunting.
31 Anch’egli preparò un piatto, lo portò al padre e gli disse: «Si alzi mio padre e mangi la selvaggina di suo figlio, per potermi benedire».	31 He too made an appetising dish and brought it to his father, 'Father, please eat some of your son'sgame and then give me your special blessing.'
32 Gli disse suo padre Isacco: «Chi sei tu?». Rispose: «Io sono il tuo figlio primogenito, Esaù».	32 His father Isaac asked, 'Who are you?' 'I am your first-born son, Esau,' he replied.
33 Allora Isacco fu colto da un fortissimo tremito e disse: «Chi era dunque colui che ha preso la selvaggina e me l’ha portata? Io ho mangiato tutto prima che tu giungessi, poi l’ho benedetto e benedetto resterà».	33 At this Isaac was seized with a violent trembling and said, 'Who was it, then, that went hunting andbrought me the game? 36 Riprese: «Forse perché si chiama Giacobbe mi ha soppiantato già due volte? Già ha carpito la mia primogenitura ed ecco ora ha carpito la mia benedizione!». E soggiunse: «Non hai forse in serbo qualche benedizione per me?».	36 Esau said, 'His name should be Jacob right enough, for he has now supplanted me twice. First hetook my birthright, and look, now he has gone and taken my blessing! But', he added, 'have you not kept ablessing for me?'
37 Isacco rispose e disse a Esaù: «Ecco, io l’ho costituito tuo signore e gli ho dato come servi tutti i suoi fratelli; l’ho provveduto di frumento e di mosto; ora, per te, che cosa mai potrei fare, figlio mio?».	37 Isaac replied to Esau, 'I have already made him your master; I have given him al his brothers asservants, I have given him grain and wine to sustain him. So what can I do for you, son?'
38 Esaù disse al padre: «Hai una sola benedizione, padre mio? Benedici anche me, padre mio!». Esaù alzò la voce e pianse.	38 Esau said to his father, 'Can you bless only once, father? Father, bless me too.' Isaac remainedsilent, and Esau began to weep aloud.
39 Allora suo padre Isacco prese la parola e gli disse: «Ecco, la tua abitazione sarà lontano dalle terre grasse, lontano dalla rugiada del cielo dall’alto.	39 Then his father Isaac spoke again and said: 'Far from the richness of the earth and the dew ofheaven above, your home will be.
40 Vivrai della tua spada e servirai tuo fratello; ma verrà il giorno che ti riscuoterai, spezzerai il suo giogo dal tuo collo».	40 By your sword you wil live, and your brother wil you serve. But when you win your freedom, you wilshake his yoke off your neck.'
41 Esaù perseguitò Giacobbe per la benedizione che suo padre gli aveva dato. Pensò Esaù: «Si avvicinano i giorni del lutto per mio padre; allora ucciderò mio fratello Giacobbe».	41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him, and Esau said to himself, 'Thetime to mourn for my father wil soon be here. Then I shal kil my brother Jacob.'
42 Ma furono riferite a Rebecca le parole di Esaù, suo figlio maggiore, ed ella mandò a chiamare il figlio minore Giacobbe e gli disse: «Esaù, tuo fratello, vuole vendicarsi di te e ucciderti.	42 When the words of Esau, her elder son, were repeated to Rebekah, she sent for her younger sonJacob and said to him, 'Look, your brother Esau means to take revenge and kil you.
43 Ebbene, figlio mio, dammi retta: su, fuggi a Carran da mio fratello Làbano.	43 Now, son, listen to me; go at once and take refuge with my brother Laban in Haran.
44 Rimarrai con lui qualche tempo, finché l’ira di tuo fratello si sarà placata.	44 Stay with him a while, until your brother's fury cools,
45 Quando la collera di tuo fratello contro di te si sarà placata e si sarà dimenticato di quello che gli hai fatto, allora io manderò a prenderti di là. Perché dovrei venir privata di voi due in un solo giorno?».	45 until your brother's anger is diverted from you and he forgets what you have done to him. Then Ishall send someone to bring you back. I do not want to lose you both on one day!'
46 E Rebecca disse a Isacco: «Ho disgusto della mia vita a causa delle donne ittite: se Giacobbe prende moglie tra le Ittite come queste, tra le ragazze della regione, a che mi giova la vita?».	46 Rebekah said to Isaac, 'The Hittite women sicken me to death. If Jacob were to marry a Hittitewoman like these, one of the local women, what would there be left in life for me?'
