Siracide 17

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il Signore creò l'uomo dalla terra e ad essa lo fa tornare di nuovo.	1 The Lord fashioned human beings from the earth, to consign them back to it.
2 Egli assegnò agli uomini giorni contati e un tempo fissato, diede loro il dominio di quanto è sulla terra.	2 He gave them so many days and so much time, he gave them authority over everything on earth.
3 Secondo la sua natura li rivestì di forza, e a sua immagine li formò.	3 He clothed them in strength, like himself, and made them in his own image.
4 Egli infuse in ogni essere vivente il timore dell'uomo, perché l'uomo dominasse sulle bestie e sugli uccelli.	4 He fil ed al living things with dread of human beings, making them masters over beasts and birds.
5 Discernimento, lingua, occhi, orecchi e cuore diede loro perché ragionassero.	5
6 Li riempì di dottrina e d'intelligenza, e indicò loro anche il bene e il male.	6 He made them a tongue, eyes and ears, and gave them a heart to think with.
7 Pose lo sguardo nei loro cuori per mostrar loro la grandezza delle sue opere.	7 He fil ed them with knowledge and intelligence, and showed them what was good and what evil.
8 Loderanno il suo santo nome per narrare la grandezza delle sue opere.	8 He put his own light in their hearts to show them the magnificence of his works,
9 Inoltre pose davanti a loro la scienza e diede loro in eredità la legge della vita.	9
10 Stabilì con loro un'alleanza eterna e fece loro conoscere i suoi decreti.	10 so that they would praise his holy name as they told of his magnificent works.
11 I loro occhi contemplarono la grandezza della sua gloria, i loro orecchi sentirono la magnificenza della sua voce.	11 He set knowledge before them, he endowed them with the law of life.
12 Disse loro: "Guardatevi da ogni ingiustizia!" e diede a ciascuno precetti verso il prossimo.	12 He established an eternal covenant with them, and revealed his judgements to them.
13 Le loro vie sono sempre davanti a lui, non restano nascoste ai suoi occhi.	13 Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory, and their ears heard the glory of his voice.
14 Su ogni popolo mise un capo, ma Israele è la porzione del Signore.	14 He said to them, 'Beware of al wrong-doing'; he gave each a commandment concerning hisneighbour.
15 Tutte le loro opere sono davanti a lui come il sole, i suoi occhi osservano sempre la loro condotta.	15 Their ways are always under his eye, they cannot be hidden from his sight.
16 A lui non sono nascoste le loro ingiustizie, tutti i loro peccati sono davanti al Signore.	16
17 La beneficenza dell'uomo è per lui come un sigillo, egli serberà la generosità come la propria pupilla.	17 Over each nation he has set a governor, but Israel is the Lord's own portion.
18 Alla fine si leverà e renderà loro la ricompensa, riverserà su di loro il contraccambio.	18
19 Ma a chi si pente egli offre il ritorno, consola quanti vengono meno nella pazienza.	19 Their actions are al as plain as the sun to him, and his eyes rest constantly on their conduct.
20 Ritorna al Signore e cessa di peccare, prega davanti a lui e cessa di offendere.	20 Their iniquities are not hidden from him, al their sins are before the Lord.
21 Fa' ritorno all'Altissimo e volta le spalle all'ingiustizia; detesta interamente l'iniquità.	21
22 Negli inferi infatti chi loderà l'Altissimo, al posto dei viventi e di quanti gli rendono lode?	22 Almsgiving is like a signet ring to him, he cherishes generosity like the pupil of an eye.
23 Da un morto, che non è più, la riconoscenza si perde, chi è vivo e sano loda il Signore.	23 One day he wil rise and reward them, he wil repay their deserts on their own heads.
24 Quanto è grande la misericordia del Signore, il suo perdono per quanti si convertono a lui!	24 But to those who repent he permits return, and he encourages those who have lost hope.
25 L'uomo non può avere tutto, poiché un figlio dell'uomo non è immortale.	25 Return to the Lord and renounce your sins, plead before his face, stop offending him.
26 Che c'è di più luminoso del sole? Anch'esso scompare. Così carne e sangue pensano al male.	26 Come back to the Most High, turn away from iniquity and hold all that is foul in abhorrence.
27 Esso sorveglia le schiere dell'alto cielo, ma gli uomini sono tutti terra e cenere.	27 Who is going to praise the Most High in Sheol if we do not glorify him while we are alive?
	28 The dead can praise no more than those who do not exist, only those with life and health can praisethe Lord.
	29 How great is the mercy of the Lord, his pardon for those who turn to him!
	30 For we cannot have everything, human beings are not immortal.
	31 What is brighter than the sun? And yet it fades. Flesh and blood think of nothing but evil.
	32 He surveys the armies of the lofty sky, and al of us are only dust and ashes.
