EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Da antwortete Elifas von Teman und sprach:	1 Eliphaz of Teman spoke next. He said:
2 Kann denn der Mensch Gott nützen? Nein, sich selber nützt der Kluge.	2 Can a human being contribute anything to God, when even someone intel igent can benefit onlyhimself?
3 Ist es dem Allmächtigen von Wert, dass du gerecht bist, ist es für ihn Gewinn, wenn du unsträfliche Wege gehst?	3 Does Shaddai derive any benefit from your uprightness, or profit from your blameless conduct?
4 Wegen deiner Gottesfurcht sollte er dich strafen, vor Gericht mit dir gehen?	4 Do you think he is punishing you for your piety and bringing you to justice for that?
5 Ist nicht groß deine Bosheit, ohne Ende dein Verschulden?	5 No, for your great wickedness, more likely, for your unlimited sins!
6 Du pfändest ohne Grund deine Brüder, ziehst Nackten ihre Kleider aus.	6 You have exacted unearned pledges from your brothers, stripped people naked of their clothes,
7 Den Durstigen tränkst du nicht mit Wasser, dem Hungernden versagst du das Brot.	7 failed to give water to the thirsty and refused bread to the hungry;
8 Dem Mann der Faust gehört das Land, der Günstling darf darin wohnen.	8 handed the land over to a strong man, for some favoured person to move in,
9 Witwen hast du weggeschickt mit leeren Händen, der Verwaisten Arme zerschlagen.	9 sent widows away empty-handed and crushed the arms of orphans.
10 Deswegen liegen Fallstricke rings um dich her und jäher Schrecken ängstigt dich	10 No wonder, then, if snares are al around you, and sudden terrors make you afraid;
11 oder Dunkel, worin du nicht siehst, und Wasserflut, die dich bedeckt.	11 if light has turned to darkness, so that you cannot see, and you have been submerged in the flood.
12 Ist Gott nicht wie der Himmel hoch? Schau, wie die höchsten Sterne ragen.	12 Does not God live high in the heavens, does he not see the zenith of the stars?
13 Und da sagst du: Was weiß denn Gott? Richtet er denn durch das dunkle Gewölk?	13 And because he is up there, you have said, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the darkcloud?
14 Wolken umhüllen ihn, sodass er nicht sieht, am Himmelskreis geht er einher.	14 The clouds, to him, are an impenetrable veil, as he goes his way on the rim of the heavens.'
15 Willst du dem Pfad der Vorzeit folgen, den die Männer des Unheils zogen,	15 And wil you stil fol ow the ancient trail trodden by the wicked,
16 die vor der Zeit dahingerafft wurden, über deren Grund sich ein Strom ergoss?	16 those who were borne off before their time, whose foundations were swamped by a flood,
17 Die sagten zu Gott: Weiche von uns!, und: Was tut uns der Allmächtige an?	17 for having said to God, 'Go away! What can Shaddai do to us?'
18 Und doch, er hat ihre Häuser mit Gütern gefüllt und das Planen der Bösen blieb ihm fern.	18 Yet he himself had filled their houses with good things, although excluded from the plans of thewicked!
19 Sehen werden, sich freuen die Gerechten, der Reine wird sie verspotten:	19 At such a spectacle, the upright rejoice, and the innocent deride them:
20 Wahrhaftig, vernichtet sind unsere Gegner, ihren Rest hat das Feuer verzehrt.	20 'See how our enemies have been destroyed! See how their wealth has perished in the flames!'
21 Werde sein Freund und halte Frieden! Nur dadurch kommt das Gute dir zu.	21 Wel then! Make peace with him, be reconciled, and al your happiness will be restored to you.
22 Nimm doch Weisung an aus seinem Mund, leg dir seine Worte ins Herz:	22 Welcome the teaching from his lips, and keep his words close to your heart.
23 Kehrst du zum Allmächtigen um, so wirst du aufgerichtet. Hältst Unrecht deinem Zelt du fern,	23 If you return, humbled, to Shaddai and drive wickedness far from your tent,
24 wirfst in den Staub das Edelgold, zum Flussgestein das Feingold,	24 if you lay your gold down on the dust, Ophir down among the pebbles of the torrent,
25 dann wird der Allmächtige dein Edelgold und erlesenes Silber für dich sein.	25 Shaddai wil be bars of gold to you and silver piled in heaps.
26 Dann wirst du am Allmächtigen dich erfreuen und zu Gott dein Angesicht heben.	26 Then Shaddai will be al your delight, and you wil lift your face to God.
27 Flehst du ihn an, so hört er dich und du wirst deine Gelübde erfüllen.	27 You wil pray, and he wil hear; and you wil be able to fulfil your vows.
28 Beschließt du etwas, dann trifft es ein und Licht überstrahlt deine Wege.	28 Whatever you undertake wil go wel , and light will shine on your path;
29 Wer hochmütig redet, den duckt er, doch hilft er dem, der die Augen senkt.	29 for he casts down the pride of the arrogant, but he saves those of downcast eyes.
30 Er rettet den, der schuldlos ist; durch deiner Hände Reinheit wird er gerettet.	30 He rescues anyone who is innocent; have your hands clean, and you wil be saved.
