| 1 Così parlò Gesù. Poi, levati gli occhi al cielo, disse: Padre, è giunta l'ora, glorifica il tuo Figlio, onde anche il tuo Figlio glorifichi te; | 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify thy Son that the Son may glorify thee, |
| 2 e come gli hai dato potere su ogni mortale, dagli pure che egli doni la vita eterna a coloro che gli hai affidati. | 2 since thou hast given him power over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom thou hast given him. |
| 3 E la vita eterna è questa: che conoscano te, solo vero Dio, e colui che hai mandato, Gesù Cristo. | 3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. |
| 4 Io ti ho glorificato sulla terra, compiendo l'opera che mi hai data a fare; | 4 I glorified thee on earth, having accomplished the work which thou gavest me to do; |
| 5 ed ora, Padre, glorifica me nel tuo cospetto con quella gloria che ebbi presso di te prima che il mondo fosse. | 5 and now, Father, glorify thou me in thy own presence with the glory which I had with thee before the world was made. |
| 6 Ho manifestato il tuo nome agli uomini che mi hai affidati nel mondo: erano tuoi e li hai consegnati a me, ed essi hanno osservata la tua parola. | 6 "I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world; thine they were, and thou gavest them to me, and they have kept thy word. |
| 7 Ora hanno conosciuto che tutto quello che mi hai dato viene da te, | 7 Now they know that everything that thou hast given me is from thee; |
| 8 perchè le parole che desti a me le ho date a loro; ed essi le hanno accolte, e veramente hanno riconosciuto che io sono venuto da Dio, ed han creduto che tu mi hai mandato. | 8 for I have given them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from thee; and they have believed that thou didst send me. |
| 9 Prego per loro. Non prego pel mondo, ma per quelli che mi hai affidati, perchè son tuoi. | 9 I am praying for them; I am not praying for the world but for those whom thou hast given me, for they are thine; |
| 10 Ed ogni cosa mia è tua, ed ogni cosa tua è mia. In essi io sono stato glorificato. | 10 all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. |
| 11 Io già non sono più nel mondo; ma essi restano nel mondo, mentre io vengo a te. Padre santo, custodisci nel nome tuo quelli che mi hai affidati, acciocché siano una cosa sola come noi. | 11 And now I am no more in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name, which thou hast given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. |
| 12 Finchè io ero con essi, li conservavo nel tuo nome. Quelli che mi hai affidati li ho custoditi; e nessuno di loro è perito, tranne il figlio di perdizione, affinchè sia adempiuta la Scrittura. | 12 While I was with them, I kept them in thy name, which thou hast given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. |
| 13 Ora però vengo a te, e questo dico nel mondo, affinchè abbiano il mio gaudio perfetto in se stessi. | 13 But now I am coming to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. |
| 14 Io ho comunicato loro la tua parola, e il mondo li ha odiati perchè non sono del mondo, come neanch'io sono del mondo. | 14 I have given them thy word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. |
| 15 Non chiedo che tu li levi dal mondo, ma che tu li guardi dal male. | 15 I do not pray that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from the evil one. |
| 16 Essi non sono del mondo, come neppure io sono del mondo. | 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. |
| 17 Santificali nella verità. La tua parola è verità. | 17 Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth. |
| 18 Come tu hai mandato me nel mondo, cosi io ho mandato nel mondo essi. | 18 As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. |
| 19 E per loro amore io santifico me stesso, affinchè essi pure siano santificati nella verità. | 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth. |
| 20 Ne soltanto per questi prego; ma prego anche per quelli che crederanno in me, per la loro parola: | 20 "I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, |
| 21 che sian tutti una sola cosa come tu sei in me, o Padre, ed io in te; che siano aneli'essi una sola cosa in noi, affinchè il mondo creda che tu mi hai mandato. | 21 that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. |
| 22 E la gloria che tu mi desti, l'ho data loro, affinchè siano una sola cosa come siamo noi. | 22 The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, |
| 23 Io in essi e tu in me: affinchè sian perfetti nell'unità e conosca il mondo che tu mi hai mandato e li hai amati come hai amato me. | 23 I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me. |
| 24 Padre, io voglio che dove son io, sian pure con me quelli che mi affidasti, affinchè vedano la gloria mia che tu mi hai data, perchè tu mi hai amato prima della creazione del mondo. | 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the world. |
| 25 Padre giusto, il mondo non ti ha conosciuto; ma io ti ho conosciuto e questi han riconosciuto che tu mi hai mandato. | 25 O righteous Father, the world has not known thee, but I have known thee; and these know that thou hast sent me. |
| 26 Ed ho fatto conoscere a loro il tuo nome, e lo farò conoscere ancora, affinchè l'amore col quale mi hai amato sia in essi ed io in loro. | 26 I made known to them thy name, and I will make it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them." |
