| 1 Io sono la vera vite, il Padre mio è il coltivatore. | 1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. |
| 2 Ogni tralcio che in me non porta frutto, lo taglierà via, e quello che porta frutto, lo poterà, perchè frutti di più. | 2 Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. |
| 3 Voi siete puri, in virtù della parola che vi ho annunziata. | 3 You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. |
| 4 Rimanete in me, ed io in voi. Come il tralcio non può da sè dare frutto, se non rimane unito alla vite, così nemmeno voi se non rimanete in me. | 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. |
| 5 Io sono la vite, voi i tralci; se uno rimane in me ed io in lui, questo porta molto frutto; perchè senza di me non potete far niente. | 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. |
| 6 Chi non rimane in me sarà gettato via come tralcio e seccherà, e, raccolto, sarà buttato nel fuoco a bruciare. | 6 If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. |
| 7 Se rimanete in me e rimangono in voi le mie parole, domanderete quel che vorrete e vi sarà fatto. | 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. |
| 8 Il Padre mio è glorificato in questo: che portiate molto frutto e diventiate miei discepoli. | 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. |
| 9 Come il Padre ha amato me, così io ho amato voi. Perseverate nell'amor mio. | 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. |
| 10 Se osserverete i miei comandamenti persevererete nel mio amore, come io ho osservato i comandamenti del Padre mio e rimango nel suo amore. | 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. |
| 11 V'ho detto questo, affinchè in voi dimori la mia gioia e la gioia vostra sia perfetta. | 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. |
| 12 Il comandamento mio è questo: che vi amiate scambievolmente come io ho amato voi! | 12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. |
| 13 Nessuno ha amore più grande di quello di colui che dà la vita per i suoi amici. | 13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. |
| 14 Voi siete miei amici se farete quello che vi comando. | 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. |
| 15 Non vi chiamerò più servi, perchè il servo non sa quel che fa il padrone. Ma v'ho chiamati amici perchè v'ho fatto sapere tutto quello che ho udito dal Padre mio. | 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. |
| 16 Non siete voi che avete eletto me, ma io ho eletto voi, e v'ho destinati perchè andiate e portiate frutti, e frutti duraturi: onde, qualunque cosa voi chiederete al Padre in nome mio Egli ve la concederà. | 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. |
| 17 Questo v'ingiungo: di amarvi scambievolmente. | 17 This I command you, to love one another. |
| 18 Se il mondo vi odia, sappiate che prima di voi ha odiato me. | 18 "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. |
| 19 Se foste del mondo, il mondo amerebbe ciò che è suo, ma perchè non siete del mondo ed io vi ho eletti dal mondo, per questo il mondo vi odia. | 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. |
| 20 Ricordatevi della parola che vi ho detto: non si dà servo maggiore del padrone. Se hanno perseguitato me, perseguiteranno anche voi; se hanno osservata la mia parola, osserveranno anche la vostra. | 20 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. |
| 21 Ma tutto questo ve lo faranno a causa del mio nome, perchè non conoscono colui che mi ha mandato. | 21 But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me. |
| 22 Se non fossi venuto e non avessi parlato loro, non avrebbero colpa; ma ora non hanno scusa del loro peccato. | 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. |
| 23 Chi odia me, odia anche il Padre mio. | 23 He who hates me hates my Father also. |
| 24 Se non avessi fatto tra loro opere che nessun altro mai fece, sarebbero senza colpa; ma ora l'han già vedute, e hanno odiato me ed il Padre mio. | 24 If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. |
| 25 E ciò affinchè s'adempia la parola scritta nella legge: Mi odiarono senza ragione. | 25 It is to fulfill the word that is written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.' |
| 26 Ma quando sarà venuto il Consolatore, ch'io vi manderò dal Padre, lo Spirito di verità che procede dal Padre, egli mi renderà testimonianza; | 26 But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness to me; |
| 27 e voi pure mi renderete testimonianza, perchè siete stati con me fino da principio. | 27 and you also are witnesses, because you have been with me from the beginning. |
