1 Meglio un tozzo di pan secco in pace, che una casa piena di banchetti e di discordie.	1 A dry morsel with gladness is better than a house full of sacrifices along with conflict.
2 Un servo saggio comanderà ai figli stolti, e dividerà l'eredità tra i fratelli.	2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and he will divide the inheritance among brothers.
3 Come si prova, l'argento col fuoco e l'oro col crogiolo, così il Signore prova i cuori.	3 Just as silver is tested by fire, and gold is tested in the furnace, so also does the Lord test hearts.
4 Il malvagio obbedisce alla lingua iniqua, l'ingannatore dà retta a labbra menzognere.	4 The evil obey an unjust tongue. And the false are submissive to lying lips.
5 Chi disprezza il povero ne insulta il Creatore, e chi si rallegra dell'altrui rovina non rimarrà impunito.	5 Whoever despises the poor rebukes his Maker. And whoever rejoices in the ruin of another will not go unpunished.
6 I figlioli dei figli son la corona dei vecchi, e i padri son la gloria dei figli.	6 Sons of sons are the crown of old age. And the glory of sons is their fathers.
7 Non s'addice allo stolto il parlare sentenzioso, nè al principe un labbro menzognero.	7 Well-chosen words are not fitting for the foolish, nor are lying lips fitting for a leader.
8 L'aspettativa d'un dono è gemma carissima, da qualunque lato si volge agisce con prudente intelligenza.	8 The expectation of those who stand ready is a most pleasing jewel. Whichever way he turns himself, he understands prudently.
9 Chi cela i falli s'acquista amicizie, chi li dice e li ridice mette discordie tra gli amici.	9 Whoever conceals an offense seeks friendships. Whoever repeats the words of another separates allies.
10 Fa più una correzione all'uomo prudente che cento colpi all'insensato.	10 A correction benefits more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 Il malvagio cerca sempre litigi; ma l'angelo crudele sarà spedito contro di lui.	11 The evil one continually seeks conflicts. But a cruel Angel shall be sent against him.
12 E' meglio imbattersi in un'orsa a cui siano stati rapiti gli orsacchiotti, che incontrarsi con un insensato, il quale confida nella sua follia.	12 It is more expedient to meet a bear robbed of her young, than the foolish trusting in his own folly.
13 Chi rende mah? per il bene non vedrà mai partire da casa sua la sventura.	13 Whoever repays evil for good, evil shall not withdraw from his house.
14 Chi dà la stura alle acque comincia una contesa, avanti di patir dànno tronca la lite.	14 Whoever releases the water is the head of the conflict. And just before he suffers contempt, he abandons judgment.
15 Chi assolve il reo e chi condanna l'innocente, tutt'e due sono abbominevoli davanti a Dio.	15 Those who justify the impious, and those who condemn the just, both are abominable with God.
16 Che giova allo stolto avere ricchezze, se non può comprare la sapienza? Chi fa molto alta la sua casa cerca la rovina, chi ricusa d'imparare cadrà in guai.	16 What does it profit the foolish to have riches, when he is not able to buy wisdom? Whoever makes his house high seeks ruin. And whoever shuns learning shall fall into evils.
17 L'amico vuole bene in ogni tempo, e il fratello si prova nelle afflizioni.	17 Whoever is a friend loves at all times. And a brother is proved by distress.
18 Un uomo insensato batterà le mani quando è restato mallevadore per un suo amico.	18 A foolish man will clap his hands, when he makes a pledge for his friend.
19 Chi medita discordie ama le risse, e chi alza molto la sua porta cerca la rovina.	19 Whoever dwells on discord loves disputes. And whoever exalts his door seeks ruin.
20 Chi è perverso di cuore non avrà bene, e chi è doppio di lingua cadrà in guai.	20 Whoever is of a perverse heart shall not find good. And whoever turns his tongue shall fall into evil.
21 Lo stolto è nato per sua ignominia, ma nemmeno il padre ci troverà consolazione.	21 A foolish one is born into his own disgrace. But his father will not rejoice in one who is senseless.
22 L'animo allegro rende l'età florida; lo spirito malinconico secca le ossa.	22 A joyful soul makes a lifetime flourish. A gloomy spirit dries out the bones.
23 L'empio riceve di sottomano regali per sovvertire il corso della giustizia.	23 The impious receives gifts from the bosom, so that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 Sulla faccia dell'uomo prudente brilla la sapienza, ma gli occhi dello stolto van fino ai confini del mondo.	24 Prudence shines from the face of the wise. The eyes of the foolish are on the ends of the earth.
25 Il figlio stolto è lo sdegno del padre e il dolore della madre che lo ha generato.	25 A foolish son is the anger of the father and the grief of the mother who conceived him.
26 Non sta bene danneggiare il giusto, nè percuotere il principe che giudica rettamente.	26 It is not good to inflict damage on the just, nor to strike the leader who judges uprightly.
27 Chi modera le sue parole è dotto e prudente, e l'uomo saggio è di spirito riservato.	27 Whoever moderates his words is learned and prudent. And a man of learning has a precious spirit.
28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, sarà stimato sapiente, e intelligente, se terrà chiuse le labbra.	28 If he would remain silent, even the foolish would be considered wise, and if he closes his lips, intelligent.
