Esodo 20

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E il Signore pronunziò tutte queste parole:	1 Then God spoke al these words. He said,
2 Io sono il Signore Dio tuo, che ti ho tratto dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.	2 'I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you lived as slaves.
3 Non avrai altri dèi nel mio cospetto.	3 'You shal have no other gods to rival me.
4 Non ti farai nessuna scultura, nè rappresentazione di quel che è lassù nel cielo, o quaggiù in terra, o nelle acque sotto la terra.	4 'You shal not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything in heaven above or on earthbeneath or in the waters under the earth.
5 Non adorerai tali cose, nè presterai loro culto: Io sono il Signore Dio tuo forte e geloso, che visito l'iniquità dei padri sopra i figli fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione di quelli che mi odiano;	5 'You shal not bow down to them or serve them. For I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God and Ipunish a parent's fault in the children, the grandchildren, and the great-grandchildren among those who hate me;
6 e fo misericordia fino alla millesima di quelli che mi amano e osservano i miei comandamenti.	6 but I act with faithful love towards thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 Non userai invano il nome del Signore Dio tuo, perchè il Signore non terrà per innocente chi avrà usato invano il nome del Signore Dio suo.	7 'You shal not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh wil not leave unpunished anyonewho misuses his name.
8 Ricordati di santificare il giorno di sabato:	8 'Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
9 per sei giorni lavorerai e farai tutte le tue opere;	9 For six days you shal labour and do al your work,
10 ma nel settimo giorno, sabato del Signore Dio tuo, non farai alcun lavoro, nè tu, nè il tuo figlio, nè la tua figlia, nè il tuo servo, nè la tua serva, nè il tuo giumento, nè il forestiero che è dentro le tue porte;	10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God. You shal do no work that day, neither younor your son nor your daughter nor your servants, men or women, nor your animals nor the alien living with you.
11 perchè in sei giorni il Signore fece il cielo e la terra, il mare e quanto in essi si contiene, e nel settimo giorno si riposò. Dunque il Signore ha benedetto il giorno del sabato e lo ha santificato.	11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens, earth and sea and al that these contain, but on theseventh day he rested; that is why Yahweh has blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.
12 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, affinchè tu viva lungamente sulla terra che ti darà il Signore Dio tuo.	12 'Honour your father and your mother so that you may live long in the land that Yahweh your God isgiving you.
13 Non ammazzare.	13 'You shal not kil .
14 Non commettere adulterio.	14 'You shal not commit adultery.
15 Non rubare.	15 'You shal not steal.
16 Non attestare il falso contro il tuo prossimo.	16 'You shal not give false evidence against your neighbour.
17 Non desiderare la casa del tuo prossimo; non desiderare la sua moglie, nè il suo servo, nè la sua serva, nè il suo bue, nè il suo asino, nè altra cosa che gli appartenga ».	17 'You shal not set your heart on your neighbour's house. You shal not set your heart on yourneighbour's spouse, or servant, man or woman, or ox, or donkey, or any of your neighbour's possessions.'
18 Or tutto il popolo, sentendo i tuoni e il suono della tromba, e vedendo i lampi e il monte che fumava, atterrito e oppresso dalla paura se ne stette da lungi,	18 Seeing the thunder pealing, the lightning flashing, the trumpet blasting and the mountain smoking,the people were al terrified and kept their distance.
19 dicendo a Mosè: «Parlaci tu, e noi ascolteremo: non ci parli il Signore, chè non abbiamo a morirne ».	19 'Speak to us yourself,' they said to Moses, 'and we wil obey; but do not let God speak to us, or weshall die.'
20 E Mosè disse al popolo: « Non v'impaurite: Dio è venuto per provarvi, affinchè il suo timore sia in voi, e non pecchiate ».	20 Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid; God has come to test you, so that your fear of him, beingalways in your mind, may keep you from sinning.'
21 Il popolo adunque se ne stette in lontananza, e Mosè s'avvicinò alla caligine nella quale era Dio.	21 So the people kept their distance while Moses approached the dark cloud where God was.
22 Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: « Queste cose dirai ai figli d'Israele: Voi avete veduto come vi ho parlato dal cielo,	22 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Tel the Israelites this, "You have seen for yourselves how I have spoken toyou from heaven.
23 Non vi farete degli dèi d'argento nè d'oro.	23 You must not make gods of silver to rival me, nor must you make yourselves gods of gold.
24 Mi farete un altare di terra, e sopra di esso offrirete i vostri olocausti, le vostre ostie pacifiche, le vostre pecore e i vostri buoi, in ogni luogo in cui vi sarà la memoria del mio nome, ed io verrò a te e ti benedirò.	24 "You must make me an altar of earth on which to sacrifice your burnt offerings and communionsacrifices, your sheep and cattle. Wherever I choose to have my name remembered, I shal come to you andbless you.
25 Se poi mi fai un altare di pietra, non lo fare di pietre squadrate, perchè, se vi alzerai sopra lo scalpello, sarà contaminato.	25 If you make me an altar of stone, do not build it of dressed stones; for if you use a chisel on it, youwil profane it.
26 E non salire per gradini al mio altare affinchè non si scopra la tua nudità ».	26 You must not go up to my altar by steps, in case you expose your nakedness on them." '
