1 E il Signore parlò a Mosè e disse:	1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Di' ai figli d'Israele che, tornando in dietro, si accampino dinanzi a Fihahirot, che è tra Magdalum e il mare, di fronte a Beelsefon: accampatevi di faccia a quel luogo, presso il mare.	2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baal-zephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.
3 Così Faraone dirà dei figli d'Israele: Son rinchiusi nel paese, sono serrati dal deserto.	3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
4 « Allora io indurerò il suo cuore ed egli v'inseguirà, ma io sarò glorificato in Faraone e in tutto il suo esercito; e gli Egiziani conosceranno che io sono il Signore ». Ed essi cosi fecero.	4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
5 Essendo annunziata al re degli Egiziani la fuga del popolo, il cuore di Faraone e dei suoi servi mutò sentimento a riguardo del popolo, e dissero: « Che abbiamo inteso di fare col lasciar partire Israele in modo che non ci serva più? »	5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
6 E Faraone allora fece attaccare il suo cocchio, e prese con sè tutto il suo popolo;	6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:
7 e prese seicento cocchi scelti, e tutti i cocchi d'Egitto e i capi di tutto l'esercito.	7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.
8 Il Signore indurò il cuore di Faraone re d'Egitto, che inseguì i figli d'Israele; ma essi erano usciti sotto una mano potente.	8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
9 Or dunque gli Egiziani, inseguendo gli Israeliti che erano avanti, li raggiunsero mentre stavano accampati; tutta la cavalleria e i cocchi di Faraone e tutto l'esercito erano in Fihahirot, di fronte a Beelsefon.	9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.
10 E quando Faraone fu vicino, i figli d'Israele, alzando gli occhi e vedendo gli Egiziani alle spalle, ebbero grande paura e gridarono al Signore.	10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
11 E dissero a Mosè: « Mancavan forse sepolture in Egitto, che tu ci hai con dotti a morire nel deserto? Che hai inteso di fare col trarci dall'Egitto?	11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
12 Non te lo dicevamo in Egitto: Lasciaci stare, lasciaci servire agli Egiziani? Certo era meglio servire ad essi che morire nel deserto! »	12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
13 E Mosè disse al popolo: « Non temete: state fermi a vedere i prodigi che oggi farà il Signore: gli Egiziani che or vedete non li vedrete mai più in eterno.	13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14 Il Signore combatterà per voi che starete quieti e tranquilli ».	14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
15 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Perchè gridi verso di me? Di' ai figli d'Israele che si mettano in viaggio.	15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
16 E tu alza la tua verga, e, stendendo la tua mano sopra il mare, dividilo, affinchè i figli d'Israele camminino in mezzo al mare per l'asciutto.	16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
17 Ed io indurerò il cuore degli Egiziani, affinchè v'inseguano e sarò glorificato in Faraone e in tutto il suo esercito e nei suoi cocchi e nei suoi cavalieri.	17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
18 E gli Egiziani sapranno che io sono il Signore, quando sarò stato glorificato in Faraone, nei suoi cocchi e nei suoi cavalieri.	18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
19 Allora l'angelo del Signore che precedeva le schiere d'Israele si mosse e andò alle loro spalle, e con lui anche la colonna di nube, lasciando il fronte, andò di dietro,	19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 omettendosi tra il campo degli Egiziani e quello degli Ebrei, e la nube (da un lato) tenebrosa, (dall'altro) illuminava la notte, in modo che per tutto il tempo della notte non poterono avvicinarsi gli uni agli altri.	20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
21 Or avendo Mosè stesa la sua mano sul mare, il Signore fece che il mare si ritirasse, e facendo soffiare per tutta la notte un vento im petuoso e ardente, lo asciugò, e l'acqua fu divisa.	21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 E i figli d'Israele entrarono in mezzo al mare asciutto, mentre le acque stavano a guisa di muro alla loro destra e alla loro sinistra.	22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
23 E gli Egiziani, e tutta la cavalleria di Faraone, e i suoi cocchi e cavalieri entrarono dietro a loro nel mare.	23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
24 Era già la vigilia del mattino, quand'ecco il Signore, guardando dalla colonna di fuoco e dalla nuvola il campo degli Egiziani, lo fece perire.	24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
25 Fece rovesciare le ruote dei cocchi che eran trascinati nel profondo. Dissero allora gli Egiziani: « Fuggiamo Israele, perchè il Signore combatte per loro contro di noi! »	25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
26 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Stendi la tua mano sul mare, affinchè le acque piombino su gli Egiziani, sopra i loro cocchi e i loro cavalieri».	26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
27 E avendo Mosè stesa la mano verso il mare, sul far della mattina, il mare tornò al suo posto di prima, e le acque piombarono addosso agli Egiziani che fuggivano: così il Signore li travolse in mezzo ai flutti.	27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
28 E le acque, ritornando, coprirono i cocchi e i cavalieri di tutto l'esercito di Faraone, che per inseguire erano entrati nel mare: non ne scampò neppure uno.	28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
29 Ma i figli d'Israele camminaron sull'asciutto in mezzo al mare, e le acque eran per loro come un muro a destra e a sinistra.	29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
30 Così in quel giorno il Signore liberò Israele dalle mani degli Egiziani.	30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
31 E gl'israeliti videro sul lido del mare gli Egiziani morti e la grande potenza che il Signore aveva dimostrato contro di essi. E il popolo temette il Signore, e credette al Signore e a Mosè suo servo.	31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
