1 L'anno trentasei del regno di Asa, Baasa re d'Israele salì contro Giuda, e circondò Rama con un muro, per impedire che tranquillamente uscissero ed entrassero quelli del regno di Asa.	1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign, Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah toblock the communications of Asa king of Judah.
2 Allora Asa, preso dell'argento e dell'oro dai tesori della casa del Si­gnore e dai tesori del re, lo mandò a Benadad re di Siria, che dimorava in Damasco, dicendo:	2 Asa then took silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and the royal palace andsent this with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus,
3 « Siamo alleati, e anche mio padre e tuo padre vissero in concordia; per questo ti mando argento e oro, affinchè, rotta l'alleanza che hai con Baasa re d'Israele, lo costringa ad allontanarsi da me ».	3 'Let us make an alliance between me and you, between my father and your father! Look, I have sentyou silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil make him withdraw fromme.'
4 A tal nuova, Benadad mandò contro le città d'Israele i principi dei suoi eserciti, i quali percossero Ahion, Dan, Abelmain e tutte le città fortificate di. Nettali.	4 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim and al the storage towns of Naphtali.

6 Allora il re Asa, preso seco tutto Giuda, fece portar via da Rama le pietre e i legnami che Baasa aveva presi per edificare e con essi edificò Gabaa e Masfa.	6 King Asa then had al Judah carry away the stones and timber with which Baasha had been fortifyingRamah, and used them to fortify Geba and Mizpah.
7 In quel tempo il profeta Anani andò a dire ad Asa re di Giuda: « Siccome hai avuto fiducia nel re di Siria e non nel Signore Dio tuo, per questo l'esercito del re di Siria è sfuggito dalle tue mani.	7 Then it was that Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, 'Because you relied on the kingof Aram and not on Yahweh your God, the king of Aram's army wil slip through your fingers.
8 Gli Etiopi e i Libii non eran essi molto più numerosi per cocchi e cavalieri ed esercito immenso? Eppure il Signore, perchè tu avesti fiducia in lui, li diede nelle tue mani.	8 Did not the Cushites and Libyans form a vast army with great numbers of chariots and cavalry? Evenso, because you relied on Yahweh, he gave you the upper hand;
9 Gli occhi del Signore contemplano tutta la terra, e danno forza a quelli che con cuore perfetto credono in lui. Tu dunque hai agito stoltamente, e per questo d'or innanzi sorgeranno contro di te delle guerre ».	9 for Yahweh's eyes rove to and fro across the whole world to support those whose hearts are loyal tohim. You have acted like a fool in this respect; hence, from now on you wil have wars.'
10 Asa, indignatosi contro il Veggente, comandò che fosse messo in catene, tanto questa cosa l'aveva irritato, e fece morire in quel tempo moltissime persone del popolo.	10 Enraged with the seer, Asa had him put in the stocks in prison, being angry with him over this; at thesame time Asa ill-treated some of the people too.
11 Le gesta di Asa dalle prime alle ultime sono scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.	11 The history of Asa, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
12 L'anno trentanove del suo regno Asa s'ammalò di grandissimo dolore ai piedi; ma neppure nella sua infermità cercò il Signore, avendo fiducia piuttosto nell'arte dei medici.	12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa contracted a disease in his feet, which became very severe;in his il ness, however, he consulted not Yahweh but the doctors.
13 Si addormentò coi suoi padri, e morì l'anno quarantesimo primo del suo regno.	13 Asa then fel asleep with his ancestors, dying in the forty-first year of his reign.
14 Lo seppellirono nel suo sepolcro, che egli s'era scavato nella città di David. Lo posero sul suo letto pieno di aromi e di unguenti delicatissimi, composti secondo l'arte dei profumi, i quali con pompa stragrande bruciarono sopra di lui.	14 He was buried in the tomb which he had ordered to be cut for him in the City of David. He was laid inthe burial chamber which was fil ed with perfume blended from all sorts of oils, and a very great funeral fire wasmade for him.
