1 - Se ne andò dunque Davide di là e fuggì nella spelonca di Odollam. Il che avendo udito i suoi fratelli e tutta la casa del padre suo, se ne vennero da lui.	1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.
2 Accorsero colà anche tutti quelli che si trovavano in angustia o che erano indebitati o comunque malcontenti e divenne loro capo ed ebbe con sè quasi quattrocento uomini.	2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.
3 Davide di là si portò a Masfa nel paese di Moab e disse al re di Moab: «Rimangano, ti prego, il padre mio e la madre mia con voi fino a che io sappia cosa disponga di me Iddio».	3 And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.
4 E li lasciò presso il re di Moab e là rimasero per tutto il tempo che Davide fu in quella fortezza.	4 And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold.
5 Il profeta Gad disse a Davide: «Non restare in questa fortezza; partiti e vattene nella terra di Giuda». Davide se ne partì e venne nel bosco di Aret.	5 And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.
6 Saul seppe del ritorno di Davide e degli uomini che erano con lui, e standosene in Gabaa colla lancia in mano ed essendo in un bosco circondato da tutti i suoi servi,	6 When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;)
7 disse ai servi, che gli stavano attorno: «Ascoltatemi, o figli di Jemini; darà a voi tutti il figlio di Isai campi e vigne e vi costituirà tutti tribuni e centurioni;	7 Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds;
8 poichè avete tutti voi congiurato contro di me e non vi è nessuno che mi avverta, tanto più dopo che lo stesso figliuol mio ha stretto alleanza col figlio di Isai? E non vi è tra voi chi compianga la mia sorte e mi avverta che il mio figlio mi ha sollevato contro il servo, che fino ad ora non fece che tendermi insidie?».	8 That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
9 Doeg Idumeo, che era presente e che era uno dei principali servi di Saul, rispose così: «Ho visto il figlio di Isai in Nobe presso il sacerdote Achimelec figlio di Achitob.	9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
10 Questi consultò per lui il Signore, lo fornì di cibi e gli consegnò anche la spada di Golia, il Filisteo».	10 And he inquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.
11 Il re mandò allora a chiamare Achimelec sacerdote figlio di Achitob e tutta la famiglia del padre di lui, dei sacerdoti cioè che erano in Nobe. Venuti tutti al cospetto del re,	11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.
12 Saul disse ad Achimelec: «Ascolta, figlio di Achitob»; questi rispose: «Sono ai tuoi ordini, o Signore».	12 And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.
13 E Saul gli domandò: «Perchè avete congiurato contro di me tu e il figlio di Isai e gli hai dato del pane e una spada e consultasti per lui Iddio, perchè insorgesse contro di me, egli che fino ad oggi non fece che tendermi insidie?».	13 And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?
14 Rispose Achimelec al re: «E chi mai tra tutti i tuoi servi è fedele come Davide, lui, genero del re, esecutore dei tuoi ordini e tenuto in alto conto nella tua casa?	14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king's son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house?
15 Da oggi soltanto ho cominciato a consultare per lui il Signore? Lungi da me ciò: nè mai il re sospetti una cosa simile in tutta la casa del padre mio: il tuo servo non seppe cosa alcuna, nè piccola nè grande, di tutto questo affare».	15 Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.
16 Soggiunse il re: «Tu morrai senz'altro, Achimelec, tu e tutta la famiglia del padre tuo».	16 And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.
17 Poi alle guardie che gli stavano attorno disse: «Voltatevi e uccidete i sacerdoti del Signore, perchè essi parteggiano per Davide e sapendo ch'egli era fuggito non me ne hanno informato». Ma i ministri del re non vollero mettere le mani sopra i sacerdoti del Signore;	17 And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.
18 perciò rivoltosi il re a Doeg gli disse: «Voltati tu e gettati sui sacerdoti». Si volse allora Doeg, l'Idumeo, e gettatosi sui sacerdoti uccise in quel giorno ben ottantacinque uomini vestiti coll'efod di lino.	18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.
19 In Nobe poi, città dei sacerdoti, furono passati a fil di spada uomini, donne, bambini, lattanti, perfino i buoi, gli asini e le pecore.	19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
20 Uno solo dei figli di Achimelec figlio di Achitob il cui nome era Abiatar, sfuggito alla strage, andò da Davide	20 And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.
21 e gli annunziò che Saul aveva ucciso i sacerdoti del Signore.	21 And Abiathar shewed David that Saul had slain the LORD's priests.
22 Disse Davide ad Abiatar: «Me lo immaginai quel giorno, poichè essendovi colà Doeg, l'Idumeo, egli ne avrebbe senza dubbio parlato a Saul. Io son quindi reo della morte di tutta la famiglia di tuo padre.	22 And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.
23 Tu resta con me e non temere: se alcuno attenterà alla mia vita, attenterà anche alla tua; con me sarai salvo».	23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
