Lettera ai Romani 6

1 - Che diremo dunque? Rimarremo nel peccato affinchè abbondi la grazia?	1 So what shall we say? Should we remain in sin, so that grace may abound?
2 non sia mai. Noi che siam morti al peccato, come vivremo ancora in esso?	2 Let it not be so! For how can we who have died to sin still live in sin?
3 O ignorate che quanti siamo stati battezzati in Cristo Gesù siamo stati battezzati nella morte di lui?	3 Do you not know that those of us who have been baptized in Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death?
4 Siamo stati dunque sepolti con lui per mezzo del battesimo nella morte, affinchè, come fu resuscitato Cristo da morte per la gloria del padre, così anche noi camminiamo in novità di vita.	4 For through baptism we have been buried with him into death, so that, in the manner that Christ rose from the dead, by the glory of the Father, so may we also walk in the newness of life.
5 Poichè se siamo stati come innestati alla somiglianza della morte di lui, lo saremo anche a quella della risurrezione;	5 For if we have been planted together, in the likeness of his death, so shall we also be, in the likeness of his resurrection.
6 sapendo questo, che il nostro uomo vecchio fu crocifisso con lui perchè fosse ridotto a nulla il corpo del peccato, in modo da non esser più noi schiavi del peccato;	6 For we know this: that our former selves have been crucified together with him, so that the body which is of sin may be destroyed, and moreover, so that we may no longer serve sin.
7 perchè chi è morto è stato giustificato dalla colpa.	7 For he who has died has been justified from sin.
8 E se siamo morti in Cristo, abbiamo fede che rivivremo anche con lui,	8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live together with Christ.
9 sapendo che Cristo risorto da morte non muore più, la morte non avrà più dominio su lui.	9 For we know that Christ, in rising up from the dead, can no longer die: death no longer has dominion over him.
10 Poichè per il fatto che è morto, è morto una volta per sempre al peccato, e quel che vive vive in Dio.	10 For in as much as he died for sin, he died once. But in as much as he lives, he lives for God.
11 Così anche voi fate conto di esser morti al peccato, e di vivere a Dio in Cristo Gesù.	11 And so, you should consider yourselves to be certainly dead to sin, and to be living for God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
12 Non regni dunque il peccato nel vostro corpo mortale, sì da ubbidire alle sue concupiscenze;	12 Therefore, let not sin reign in your mortal body, such that you would obey its desires.
13 nè esibite le vostre membra come armi d'ingiustizia al peccato; ma offrite voi stessi a Dio come risuscitati da morte, e le vostre membra siano a Dio armi di giustizia.	13 Nor should you offer the parts of your body as instruments of iniquity for sin. Instead, offer yourselves to God, as if you were living after death, and offer the parts of your body as instruments of justice for God.
14 Poichè il peccato non vi comanderà più non essendo più sotto la Legge, ma sotto la grazia.	14 For sin should not have dominion over you. For you are not under the law, but under grace.
15 Che dunque? peccheremo perchè non siamo sotto la Legge ma sotto la grazia? non mai;	15 What is next? Should we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? Let it not be so!
16 non sapete che a chi vi fate schiavi per obbedienza siete schiavi di quello cui ubbidite, sia del peccato che conduce alla morte, sia dell'obbedienza che mena alla giustizia?	16 Do you not know to whom you are offering yourselves as servants under obedience? You are the servants of whomever you obey: whether of sin, unto death, or of obedience, unto justice.
17 E grazie si rendano a Dio perchè eravate schiavi del peccato, ma avete di cuore obbedito a quella forma di dottrina a cui siete stati ascritti;	17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be the servants of sin, now you have been obedient from the heart to the very form of the doctrine into which you have been received.
18 e liberati dal peccato, siete divenuti schiavi della giustizia.	18 And having been freed from sin, we have become servants of justice.
19 Io parlo in modo umano, per la debolezza della vostra carne. Perchè come offriste le vostre membra come schiave all'impurità e all'iniquità per l'iniquità, così ora offrite le vostre membra schiave alla giustizia per la santificazione.	19 I am speaking in human terms because of the infirmity of your flesh. For just as you offered the parts of your body to serve impurity and iniquity, for the sake of iniquity, so also have you now yielded the parts of your body to serve justice, for the sake of sanctification.
20 Poichè quando eravate schiavi del peccato, eravate liberi rispetto alla giustizia.	20 For though you were once the servants of sin, you have become the children of justice.
21 E che frutto avevate allora? cose delle quali ora vi vergognate, poichè la fine loro è la morte.	21 But what fruit did you hold at that time, in those things about which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
22 Ma ora affrancati dal peccato e fatti schiavi a Dio, ne avete il frutto nella vostra santificazione, e il fine è una vita sempiterna.	22 Yet truly, having been freed now from sin, and having been made servants of God, you hold your fruit in sanctification, and truly its end is eternal life.
23 Poichè la paga del peccato è morte, e il grazioso dono di Dio è la vita eterna in Gesù Cristo Signor nostro.	23 For the wages of sin is death. But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
