1 - Chiamati a sè i Dodici, diede loro potere ed autorità sopra tutti i demoni e il potere di guarir le malattie.	1 Then calling together the twelve Apostles, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.
2 Li mandò poi a predicare il regno di Dio e a risanare gl'infermi,	2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the infirm.
3 dicendo loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio, nè bastone, nè bisaccia, nè pane, nè denaro e non abbiate due tuniche.	3 And he said to them: “You should take nothing for the journey, neither staff, nor traveling bag, nor bread, nor money; and you should not have two tunics.
4 In qualunque casa entrerete rimanetevi e non ne partite.	4 And into whatever house you shall enter, lodge there, and do not move away from there.
5 E se rifiutano di ricevervi, uscite da quella città, scotendovi la polvere dai vostri piedi in segno di protesta contro di loro».	5 And whoever will not have received you, upon departing from that city, shake off even the dust on your feet, as a testimony against them.”
6 Ed essi partitisi, andavano attorno di paese in paese, annunziando la buona novella e facendo dovunque guarigioni.	6 And going forth, they traveled around, through the towns, evangelizing and curing everywhere.
7 Erode il tetrarca, udito parlare di quanto faceva Gesù, era perplesso, perchè taluni dicevano:	7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all the things that were being done by him, but he doubted, because it was said
8 «Giovanni è risorto dai morti»; altri: «È apparso Elia»; altri ancora: «È risorto uno degli antichi profeti».	8 by some, “For John has risen from the dead,” yet truly, by others, “For Elijah has appeared,” and by still others, “For one of the prophets from of old has risen again.”
9 Erode però diceva: «Giovanni l'ho fatto decapitare io. Chi è dunque quest'uomo del quale sento dire tali cose?». E cercava di vederlo.	9 And Herod said: “I beheaded John. So then, who is this, about whom I hear such things?” And he sought to see him.
10 Frattanto gli Apostoli, essendo di ritorno, raccontarono a Gesù tutto quello che avevan fatto, ed egli, presili con sè, si ritirò in disparte in un luogo deserto, vicino a una città, detta Betsaida.	10 And when the Apostles returned, they explained to him all the things that they had done. And taking them with him, he withdrew to a deserted place apart, which belongs to Bethsaida.
11 Risaputa la cosa, la gente gli tenne dietro; ed egli, accoltala, parlava loro del regno di Dio, risanando quanti avevan bisogno di guarigione.	11 But when the crowd had realized this, they followed him. And he received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God. And those who were in need of cures, he healed.
12 Ma avvicinandosi la sera, i Dodici si accostarono a lui per dirgli: «Congeda la moltitudine, affinchè spargendosi per i villaggi e le campagne d'intorno si trovino un alloggio e un nutrimento; perchè qui siamo in un luogo deserto».	12 Then the day began to decline. And drawing near, the twelve said to him: “Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the surrounding towns and villages, they may separate and find food. For we are here in a deserted place.”
13 Egli rispose: «Date voi loro da mangiare». Ed essi gli osservarono: «Noi non abbiamo altro che cinque pani e due pesci; a meno che non si vada noi a comprare cibi per tutta questa folla!».	13 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “There is with us no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we are to go and buy food for this entire multitude.”
14 Perchè v'eran press'a poco cinquemila uomini. Gesù disse a' suoi discepoli: «Fateli sedere in gruppi di cinquanta».	14 Now there were about five thousand men. So he said to his disciples, “Have them recline to eat in groups of fifty.”
15 Ubbidirono e li fecero seder tutti.	15 And they did so. And they caused them all to recline to eat.
16 Allora presi i cinque pani e i due pesci, alzò gli occhi al cielo, li benedisse, li spezzò e li diede ai discepoli, perchè li mettessero davanti alla gente.	16 Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish, he gazed up to heaven, and he blessed and broke and distributed them to his disciples, in order to set them before the crowd.
17 Tutti mangiarono e si servirono; e degli avanzi si raccolsero dodici panieri.	17 And they all ate and were satisfied. And twelve baskets of fragments were taken up, which were left over from them.
18 Un giorno, mentre pregava in un luogo solitario, i discepoli erano con lui; allora egli fece ad essi questa questione: «Chi dice la gente ch'io sia?».	18 And it happened that, when he was praying alone, his disciples also were with him, and he questioned them, saying: “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
19 Quelli risposero: «Gli uni dicono che sei Giovanni Battista; altri Elia e altri uno degli antichi profeti risorto».	19 But they answered by saying: “John the Baptist. But some say Elijah. Yet truly, others say that one of the prophets from before has risen again.”
20 Ed egli domandò loro: «E voi chi dite ch'io sia?». Simon Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».	20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” In response, Simon Peter said, “The Christ of God.”
21 Gesù intimò loro severamente di non dirlo ad alcuno	21 But speaking sharply to them, he instructed them not to tell this to anyone,
22 ed aggiunse: «È necessario che il Figlio dell'uomo abbia a patire molte cose e sia riprovato dagli anziani, dai principi dei Sacerdoti e dagli Scribi e sia ucciso e risusciti il terzo giorno».	22 saying, “For the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the leaders of the priests and the scribes, and be killed, and on the third day rise again.”
23 Diceva poi a tutti: «Se uno vuol venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda ogni giorno la sua croce e mi segua.	23 Then he said to everyone: “If anyone is willing to come after me: let him deny himself, and take up his cross every day, and follow me.
24 Perchè chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà, e chi avrà perduta la sua vita per amor mio, la salverà.	24 For whoever will have saved his life, will lose it. Yet whoever will have lost his life for my sake, will save it.
25 Che giova mai all'uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi perde e danneggia se stesso?	25 For how does it benefit a man, if he were to gain the whole world, yet lose himself, or cause himself harm?
26 Invero se uno avrà vergogna di me e delle mie parole, il Figliuol dell'uomo avrà vergogna di lui quando verrà nella sua gloria e in quella del Padre e dei santi angeli.	26 For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words: of him the Son of man will be ashamed, when he will have arrived in his majesty and that of his Father and of the holy Angels.
27 Vi dico poi in verità, che alcuni di coloro che sono qui presenti non gusteranno la morte prima d'aver veduto il regno di Dio».	27 And yet, I tell you a truth: There are some standing here who shall not taste death, until they see the kingdom of God.”
28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, Gesù prese con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e salì sul monte a pregare.	28 And it happened that, about eight days after these words, he took Peter and James and John, and he ascended onto a mountain, so that he might pray.
29 Mentre pregava, l'aspetto del suo volto fu mutato e la sua veste divenne candida e risplendente.	29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his vestment became white and shining.
30 Ed ecco due uomini parlar con lui; erano Mosè ed Elia	30 And behold, two men were talking with him. And these were Moses and Elijah, appearing in majesty.
31 i quali apparsi con gloria, parlavano della dipartita che egli stava per compiere in Gerusalemme.	31 And they spoke of his departure, which he would accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 Intanto Pietro e i suoi compagni erano aggravati dal sonno e quando si furono svegliati videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che erano con Gesù.	32 Yet truly, Peter and those who were with him were weighed down by sleep. And becoming alert, they saw his majesty and the two men who were standing with him.
33 E mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è buona cosa per noi lo star qui; piantiamo tre tende, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia»; e non sapeva quel che si dicesse.	33 And it happened that, as these were departing from him, Peter said to Jesus: “Teacher, it is good for us to be here. And so, let us make three tabernacles: one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what he was saying.
34 Mentre parlava così venne una nuvola, che li avvolse e mentre venivano avvolti dalla nube, i discepoli furon presi da spavento.	34 Then, as he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And as these were entering into the cloud, they were afraid.
35 Dalla nube poi uscì una voce, che diceva: «Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, ascoltatelo».	35 And a voice came from the cloud, saying: “This is my beloved son. Listen to him.”
36 Mentre la voce risonava, Gesù restò solo; essi tacquero e in quei giorni non dissero a nessuno quanto avevano visto.	36 And while the voice was being uttered, Jesus was found to be alone. And they were silent and told no one, in those days, any of these things, which they had seen.
37 Il giorno seguente scesi dal monte, si fece loro incontro molta gente.	37 But it happened on the following day that, as they were descending from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
38 A un tratto un uomo dalla folla gridò: «Maestro, ti supplico, volgi lo sguardo a mio figlio; l'unico ch'io abbia.	38 And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, saying, “Teacher, I beg you, look kindly on my son, for he is my only son.
39 Uno spirito s'impadronisce di lui ed egli subito urla, lo spirito lo strapazza con violenza facendolo schiumare e a stento se ne va via da lui, dopo averne fatto strazio.	39 And behold, a spirit takes hold of him, and he suddenly cries out, and it throws him down and convulses him, so that he foams. And though it tears him apart, it leaves him only with difficulty.
40 Ho pregato ai tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti».	40 And I asked your disciples to cast him out, and they were unable.”
41 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa fino a quando dovrò restare con voi e vi dovrò sopportare? Conduci qua il tuo figliuolo».	41 And in response, Jesus said: “O unfaithful and perverse generation! How long will I be with you and endure you? Bring your son here.”
42 E mentre s'avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò per terra e lo agitò con violenza.	42 And as he was approaching him, the demon threw him down and convulsed him.
43 Ma Gesù sgridò lo spirito immondo, risanò il fanciullo e lo rese a suo padre. E tutti stupirono della grandezza di Dio.	43 And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and he healed the boy, and he restored him to his father.
44 Mentre ognuno si meravigliava di tutto ciò che faceva Gesù, egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Ascoltate attentamente ciò che vi dico: - Il Figliuol dell'uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini -».	44 And all were astonished at the greatness of God. And as everyone was wondering over all that he was doing, he said to his disciples: “You must set these words in your hearts. For it shall be that the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men.”
45 Ma essi non compresero queste parole; eran talmente oscure per loro che non ne afferravano il senso, e non osavano interrogarlo intorno a ciò.	45 But they did not understood this word, and it was concealed from them, so that they did not perceive it. And they were afraid to question him about this word.
46 Poi sorse tra loro una disputa, chi di essi fosse il più grande.	46 Now an idea entered into them, as to which of them was greater.
47 Gesù, vedendo i pensieri del loro cuore, preso un fanciullo, se lo pose accanto	47 But Jesus, perceiving the thoughts of their hearts, took a child and stood him beside him.
48 e disse loro: «Chi accoglie questo fanciullo in nome mio, accoglie me; e chi accoglie me accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Perchè chi è il più piccolo fra tutti voi, questi è il grande».	48 And he said to them: “Whoever will receive this child in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives him who sent me. For whoever is the lesser among you all, the same is greater.”
49 Giovanni prese a dirgli: «Maestro, abbiamo visto un tale che scacciava i demoni in nome tuo e noi glielo abbiamo proibito, perchè non è dei nostri».	49 And responding, John said: “Teacher, we saw a certain one casting out demons in your name. And we prohibited him, for he does not follow with us.”
50 E Gesù gli rispose: «Non glielo proibite; perchè chi non è contro di voi è per voi».	50 And Jesus said to him: “Do not prohibit him. For whoever is not against you, is for you.”
51 Siccome si avvicinava il tempo della sua assunzione, Gesù si mise risolutamente in viaggio per andare a Gerusalemme.	51 Now it happened that, while the days of his dissipation were being completed, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.
52 Mandò innanzi a sè alcuni messi i quali, postisi in cammino entrarono in un villaggio dei Samaritani per preparargli l'alloggio.	52 And he sent messengers before his face. And going on, they entered into a city of the Samaritans, to prepare for him.
53 Ma quelli non lo vollero ricevere, perchè era diretto a Gerusalemme.	53 And they would not receive him, because his face was going toward Jerusalem.
54 Vedendo ciò Giacomo e Giovanni, suoi discepoli, dissero: «Signore, vuoi che invochiamo che scenda fuoco dal cielo e li consumi?».	54 And when his disciples, James and John, had seen this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call for fire to descend from heaven and consume them?”
55 Ma egli voltatosi, li sgridò e disse: «Non sapete di quale spirito siete.	55 And turning, he rebuked them, saying: “Do you not know of whose spirit you are?
56 Il Figliuol dell'uomo non è venuto a perdere le anime ma a salvarle». E andarono in un altro villaggio.	56 The Son of man came, not to destroy lives, but to save them.” And they went into another town.
57 Cammin facendo, uno gli disse: «Io ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».	57 And it happened that, as they were walking along the way, someone said to him, “I will follow you, wherever you will go.”
58 Gesù gli rispose: «Le volpi hanno tane, e gli uccelli dell'aria nidi, ma il Figliuol dell'uomo non ha dove posare il capo».	58 Jesus said to him: “Foxes have dens, and the birds of the air have nests. But the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.”
59 Disse poi a un altro: «Seguimi». Quello rispose: «Signore, permettimi ch'io vada prima a seppellire mio padre».	59 Then he said to another, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
60 Ma Gesù gli replicò: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i morti, e tu vai ad annunziare il regno di Dio».	60 And Jesus said to him: “Let the dead bury their dead. But you go and announce the kingdom of God.”
61 Un altro disse: «Signore, ti seguirò, ma permettimi prima di salutare quei di casa».	61 And another said: “I will follow you, Lord. But permit me first to explain this to those of my house.”
62 Gesù gli rispose: «Chiunque, dopo aver messo la mano all'aratro volge indietro lo sguardo, non è adatto al regno di Dio».	62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow, and then looks back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
