| 1 - Parola che fu comunicata a Geremia dal Signore che disse: | 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: |
| 2 «Fermati sulla porta della casa del Signore e ivi predica questa parola e dirai: - Ascoltate la parola del Signore voi tutti di Giuda che entrate per queste porte ad adorare il Signore. | 2 "Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the LORD. |
| 3 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: "Emendate la vostra condotta e i vostri costumi e io abiterò con voi in questo luogo; | 3 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will let you dwell in this place. |
| 4 e non fate a fidanza su parole fallaci dicendo: C'è il tempio del Signore, il tempio del Signore, il tempio del Signore! | 4 Do not trust in these deceptive words: 'This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD.' |
| 5 Perchè se vi emenderete, migliorando la vostra condotta e i vostri costumi, se farete giustizia a ognuno imparzialmente; | 5 "For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly execute justice one with another, |
| 6 se non farete torto al forestiero e al pupillo e alla vedova, e non spargerete in questo luogo il sangue innocente, e non andrete dietro a dèi stranieri a vostro danno; | 6 if you do not oppress the alien, the fatherless or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, |
| 7 io abiterò con voi in questo luogo, nella terra che ho dato ai padri vostri dai secoli passati e per i secoli che verranno. | 7 then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers for ever. |
| 8 Ma voi vi rassicurate su parole mendaci che non vi gioveranno niente, ecco qua: | 8 "Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. |
| 9 rubare, uccidere, commettere adulterio, giurare il falso, libare ai Baalim e andare dietro a dèi stranieri che voi ignorate. | 9 Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known, |
| 10 E poi siete venuti e vi siete presentati al mio cospetto, in questa casa dove è invocato il mio nome, e avete esclamato: Noi siamo salvi! Sì, per fare ancora tutte quelle cose orrende che avete fatto! | 10 and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, 'We are delivered!'--only to go on doing all these abominations? |
| 11 Ma dunque, per una spelonca di ladri, è tenuta negli occhi vostri questa casa nella quale è invocato il mio nome? Io, io ci sono presente, eccomi che ho veduto, dice il Signore. | 11 Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, says the LORD. |
| 12 Andate alla mia dimora in Silo dove risiedeva il mio nome da principio, e guardate ciò che ne ho fatto a causa della malvagità del mio popolo d'Israele. | 12 Go now to my place that was in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell at first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel. |
| 13 Ed ora dopo che avete fatto tutto quello che avete fatto, dice il Signore, e che io mi sono dato premura di prevenirvi a tempo colle mie parole, vi ho parlato e non avete ascoltato, vi chiamai e non mi avete risposto, | 13 And now, because you have done all these things, says the LORD, and when I spoke to you persistently you did not listen, and when I called you, you did not answer, |
| 14 farò a questa casa nella quale è invocato il mio nome e nella quale riponete la vostra fiducia e al luogo che ho dato ai padri vostri, quello che ho fatto a Silo. | 14 therefore I will do to the house which is called by my name, and in which you trust, and to the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. |
| 15 E vi caccerò via dal mio cospetto come ho cacciato i vostri fratelli, tutta la stirpe di Efraim. | 15 And I will cast you out of my sight, as I cast out all your kinsmen, all the offspring of Ephraim. |
| 16 Tu dunque non pregare per questo popolo, non inalzare invocazione, nè prece per essi, non interporti presso di me, perchè non ti esaudirò. | 16 "As for you, do not pray for this people, or lift up cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with me, for I do not hear you. |
| 17 Non vedi tu quel che fanno costoro nelle città di Giuda e per le piazze di Gerusalemme? | 17 Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? |
| 18 I figliuoli raccolgono la legna, i padri accendono il fuoco e le donne cospergono il fior di farina per fare focacce alla regina del cielo e libare agli dèi stranieri, perchè io me n'adonti. | 18 The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger. |
| 19 Ma credono forse di far onta a me? dice il Signore, oh, la fanno a loro stessi, a confusione delle loro facce! | 19 Is it I whom they provoke? says the LORD. Is it not themselves, to their own confusion? |
| 20 Per questo, così dice il Signore Dio: Ecco che il mio furore e la mia indignazione avvamperanno su questo luogo, sugli uomini, sugli animali e sulle piante della campagna e sui prodotti della terra; tutto arderà e non si spegnerà più"-». | 20 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched." |
| 21 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: «Sopracaricate olocausti a sacrifizi e cibatevene delle carni, | 21 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: "Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. |
| 22 ma io non ne ho parlato coi padri vostri, e nel giorno che li condussi fuori dalla terra d'Egitto, in fatto di olocausti e di vittime non ho fatto loro imposizione alcuna. | 22 For in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to your fathers or command them concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. |
| 23 Bensì questo ho imposto loro dicendo: - Ascoltate la mia voce, e io sarò il vostro Dio e voi sarete il mio popolo, camminate in tutto per la strada che vi ho prescritta affinchè vi vada bene.- | 23 But this command I gave them, 'Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.' |
| 24 Ma non ascoltarono e non prestarono orecchio, ma andarono dietro alle loro voglie e al pravo istinto del loro cattivo cuore, andando a ritroso e non per l'innanzi, | 24 But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward. |
| 25 dal dì che i loro padri uscirono dall'Egitto fino ad oggi. E mandai tutti quei miei servi, i profeti, ogni giorno premuroso alla prim'ora li mandava; | 25 From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day; |
| 26 ma essi non mi ascoltarono e non prestarono orecchio, indurarono la loro cervice e fecero peggio che i padri loro. | 26 yet they did not listen to me, or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. |
| 27 Ripeti loro queste parole, non ti ascolteranno; chiamali e non ti risponderanno. | 27 "So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall call to them, but they will not answer you. |
| 28 Dirai loro: - Questa è la gente che non ha udita la voce del Signore Dio suo e non ha accolto l'avvertimento, hanno perduta la fede, essa è sparita dalla loro bocca. | 28 And you shall say to them, 'This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, and did not accept discipline; truth has perished; it is cut off from their lips. |
| 29 Recidi la tua capigliatura e gettala via e piangi ampiamente, perchè il Signore ha rigettata e abbandonata questa generazione del suo furore.- | 29 Cut off your hair and cast it away; raise a lamentation on the bare heights, for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.' |
| 30 Perchè i figli di Giuda hanno commesso il male sotto gli occhi miei, dice il Signore, hanno posto lo scandalo dei loro idoli nella casa ove è invocato il nome mio, per profanarla. | 30 "For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, says the LORD; they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it. |
| 31 E hanno edificato le alture di Tofet nella Valle del figlio di Ennom, per bruciare i loro figli e le loro figlie nel fuoco, cosa che non ho mai comandato, nè ho mai avuto in pensiero. | 31 And they have built the high place of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind. |
| 32 Per questo, ecco che verranno giorni, dice il Signore, e non si dirà più Tofet e Valle del figlio di Ennom, ma Valle dell'uccisione, e in Tofet seppelliranno per non esservi altro luogo. | 32 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when it will no more be called Topheth, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter: for they will bury in Topheth, because there is no room elsewhere. |
| 33 E i cadaveri di questo popolo saranno pasto degli uccelli del cielo e delle bestie della terra, nè vi sarà alcuno che li discacci. | 33 And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the air, and for the beasts of the earth; and none will frighten them away. |
| 34 E farò cessare nelle città di Giuda e nelle piazze di Gerusalemme la voce della gioia e la voce dell'allegria, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa, perchè la terra sarà nella desolazione. | 34 And I will make to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste. |
