Geremia 5

1 - Girate per le vie di Gerusalemme, guardate, osservate e cercate per le sue piazze, se trovate un uomo che operi la giustizia e cerchi la buona fede, ed io gli farò grazia.	1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
2 Anche quando dicono: «Vive il Signore!» giurano il falso.	2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
3 «O Signore, i tuoi occhi guardano alla buona fede; tu li hai percossi e non si sono risentiti, li hai quasi rifiniti e ricusarono di ricevere correzioni, indurarono la loro faccia più di una pietra, e non vollero ravvedersi».	3 O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
4 E io dissi: «Forse sono i poveri, gl'idioti e quelli che ignorano la via del Signore e le prescrizioni del loro Dio».	4 Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
5 Andrò dunque ai maggiorenti e parlerò ad essi, perchè la via del Signore e la legge del loro Dio essi la sanno! Ma ecco che costoro tutti hanno scosso il giogo, rotto ogni legame.	5 I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
6 Per questo il leone della foresta li ha aggrediti, il lupo vespertino li ha devastati, il leopardo è in agguato contro le loro città; chiunque uscirà da esse cadrà nelle sue branche, perchè le loro prevaricazioni si sono moltiplicate e rinforzati i loro pervertimenti.	6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
7 «In che ti potrei essere io propizio? i tuoi figli mi hanno abbandonato e giurano per quelli che dèi non sono; io li ho satollati ed essi si sono dati alla fornicazione, correndo a gozzovigliare nei postriboli.	7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
8 Cavalli montatori e stalloni sono diventati, ognuno nitrisce dietro la moglie del suo prossimo.	8 They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.
9 Forse che io non domanderò conto di tali cose? dice il Signore, e l'anima mia non prenderà vendetta d'una gente di tal fatta?	9 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
10 Scalate le sue mura e guastate, non fate però totale esterminio, strappate le sue propaggini, perchè non sono del Signore.	10 Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.
11 Ha perfidamente prevaricato contro di me la casa d'Israele, la casa di Giuda, dice il Signore.	11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
12 Hanno rinnegato il Signore e hanno detto: - Non è lui! E non verrà sopra di noi il male, non vedremo nè la spada nè la fame;	12 They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
13 i profeti hanno parlato in aria, non c'era in essi oracolo! - Questo che hanno detto venga sopra di loro».	13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.
14 Il Signore Dio degli eserciti, dice così: «Giacchè avete proferita questa parola, ecco che io dò le mie parole alla tua bocca per fuoco e questo popolo per legna e li consumerà.	14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
15 Ecco che io farò venire sopra di voi, o casa d'Israele, di lontano una gente, dice il Signore, una gente robusta, una gente antica, una gente di cui tu non intenderai la lingua e non capirai quello che dice.	15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
16 La sua faretra è come un sepolcro aperto, tutti sono uomini bellicosi;	16 Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.
17 e divorerà le tue mèssi e il tuo pane; e divorerà i tuoi figliuoli e le tue figliuole; e divorerà i tuoi greggi e i tuoi armenti; divorerà la tua uva e i tuoi fichi; e le città fortificate, in cui ponevi la tua confidenza, espugnerà colla spada.	17 And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.
18 Tuttavia non farò in quei giorni di voi totale sterminio, dice il Signore.	18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
19 E se vi chiederete: - Perchè mai il Signore Dio nostro ci ha fatto tutto questo? - Tu dirai loro: - Come voi avete abbandonato me e avete servito un dio straniero nella vostra terra, così servirete gli stranieri in una terra non vostra.-	19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.
20 Annunziate alla casa di Giacobbe proclamate in Giuda, dicendo:	20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
21 - Sentite, gente stolta e senza cuore, che avete gli occhi e non vedete, gli orecchi e non udite!	21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:
22 Voi dunque non mi temete, dice il Signore, e al mio cospetto non vi risentite? Io che ho posto per barriera del mare l'arena, suo limite sempiterno che non varcherà: si sconvolgeranno l'onde, ma non prevarranno, si gonfieranno i flutti, ma non oltrepasseranno la sponda.-	22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
23 Ma il cuore di questo popolo è diventato incredulo e pervicace: si sono ritirati e se ne sono andati.	23 But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.
24 E non venne in cuor loro di dire: - Temiamo il Signore Dio nostro che ci dà le prime e l'ultime piogge alla lor stagione e che ci riserva un'annata abbondante di mèssi.-	24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
25 Le vostre iniquità hanno fatto andare a rovescio queste cose, e i vostri peccati hanno vietato a voi il bene.	25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.
26 Perchè si sono trovati in mezzo al popolo mio dei malvagi che si appostavano come uccellatori, tendendo lacci e tranelli per prendere gli uomini.	26 For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
27 Come un'ingabbiata di uccelli, così sono le loro case piene di frode, in questa maniera si sono fatti grandi e si sono arricchiti.	27 As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.
28 Si sono ingrassati e impinguati e hanno trasgredito le mie parole scelleratamente: non hanno voluto giudicare la causa della vedova, nè dar corso alla ragione dell'orfano, nè difendere il diritto dei poveri.	28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
29 Come non domanderò io conto di queste cose? dice il Signore, e di tal gente non farà vendetta l'anima mia?	29 Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
30 Una cosa sbalorditiva e mostruosa è avvenuta in questo paese!	30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
31 I profeti profetizzavano menzogne, i sacerdoti applaudivano battendo le mani, e il mio popolo godeva di tali cose; ma come andrà a finire tutto questo?».	31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
