1 primo uomo plasmato da Dio padre del mondo, creato da solo, ella lo custodi;	1 It was Wisdom who protected the first man to be fashioned, the father of the world, who had beencreated al alone, she it was who rescued him from his fal
2 e lo trasse fuori dal proprio peccato, e gli diè potere di dominare ogni cosa.	2 and gave him the strength to subjugate al things.
3 Ma allontanatosi da lei l'ingiusto nell'ira sua, per il furor fratricida peri.	3 But when in his wrath a wicked man deserted her, he perished in his fratricidal fury.
4 Sommersa poi a cagion di lui la terra, la salvò di nuovo la sapienza, sur un vile legno guidando il giusto.	4 When because of him the earth was drowned, it was Wisdom again who saved it, piloting the uprightman on valueless timber.
5 Ella, quando nella concordia dell'iniquità si fuser le genti, scopri il giusto e lo custodi irreprensibile dinanzi a Dio, e contro la tenerezza per il figliuolo lo conservò forte.	5 Again, when, concurring in wickedness, the nations had been thrown into confusion, she singled outthe upright man, preserved him blameless before God and fortified him against pity for his child.
6 Ella, tra il perir degli empi, liberò il giusto sfuggito al fuoco cadente sulla Pentapoli;	6 She it was who, while the godless perished, saved the upright man as he fled from the fire rainingdown on the Five Cities,
7 e a testimonianza della loro malvagità resta una terra deserta, fumigante, e piante che portan frutti fuor di stagione e — monumento d'un'anlma incredula — una colonna ritta di sale.	7 in witness against whose evil ways a desolate land still smokes, where plants bear fruit that neverripens and where, monument to an unbelieving soul, there stands a pillar of salt.
8 Mettendo da parte. Infatti, la sapienza, non solo fecero danno a sè col non conoscere il bene; ma della loro stoltezza lasciarono anche un ricordo ai viventi, affinchè i loro falli non potessero restar nascosti.	8 For, by ignoring the path of Wisdom, not only did they suffer the loss of not knowing the good, but theyleft the world a memorial to their fol y, so that their offences could not pass unnoticed.
9 Ma la sapienza, i suoi servi fedeli li salvò dai travagli.	9 But Wisdom delivered her servants from their ordeals.
10 Ella il giusto che fuggiva l'ira fraterna guidò per vie rette; e gli mostrò il regno di Dio e gli dette la scienza delle cose sante; lo fé, prosperare nelle sue fatiche e colmò [d'abbondante frutto] i suoi lavori;	10 The upright man, fleeing from the anger of his brother, was led by her along straight paths. Sheshowed him the kingdom of God and taught him the knowledge of holy things. She brought him success in hislabours and gave him ful return for all his efforts;
11 l'assistette contro le frodi [e l'ingordigia] de, suoi oppressori, e l’arricchì;	11 she stood by him against grasping and oppressive men and she made him rich.
12 lo custodì da' nemici e dagli insidiatori lo mise al sicuro; gli procacciò la vittoria in una vigorosa lotta, perchè imparasse che più forte d'ogni cosa è la sapienza,	12 She preserved him from his enemies and saved him from the traps they set for him. In an arduousstruggle she awarded him the prize, to teach him that piety is stronger than al .
13 Ella non abbandonò il giusto venduto, ma lo salvò dal peccatori; scese con lui nella fossa,	13 She did not forsake the upright man when he was sold, but snatched him away from sin;
14 e nelle catene non l'abbandonò; finché apportò a lui lo scettro del regno e potestà sul suoi oppressori; e bugiardi dimostrò coloro che l’avevano infamato, e gli procacciò gloria eterna.	14 she accompanied him down into the pit, nor did she abandon him in his chains until she had broughthim the sceptre of a kingdom and authority over his despotic masters, thus exposing as liars those who hadtraduced him, and giving him honour everlasting.
15 Ella il popolo santo e l'irreprensibile stirpe liberò dalle nazioni che la tribolavano.	15 It was Wisdom who delivered a holy people, a blameless race, from a nation of oppressors.
16 Entrò nell'anima del servo del Signore, e fronteggiò re terribili con portenti e prodigi.	16 She entered the soul of a servant of the Lord, and withstood fearsome kings with wonders and signs.
17 Rese ai giusti la mercede delle loro fatiche, li condusse per via meravigliosa, e fu per essi quasi ombra di giorno e luce stellare di notte.	17 To the holy people she gave the wages of their labours; she guided them by a marvellous road,herself their shelter by day -- and their starlight through the night.
18 Li trasportò attraverso il mar Rosso, e li tragittò per mezzo all'acqua molta. Sommerse poi nel mare i loro nemici, e dal profondo dell'abisso li rigettò fuori; onde i giusti rapiron le spoglie degli empi,	18 She brought them across the Red Sea, leading them through an immensity of water,
19 e celebrarono, o Signore, il tuo santo nome, e la propugnatrice tua mano lodarono ad una voce.	19 whereas she drowned their enemies, then spat them out from the depths of the abyss.
20 Perchè la sapienza aprì la bocca de, mutoli, e le lingue de' bambini rese eloquenti.	20 So the upright despoiled the godless; Lord, they extol ed your holy name, and with one accordpraised your protecting hand;
	21 for Wisdom opened the mouths of the dumb and made eloquent the tongues of babes.
