1 - Cantico de' gradini. Se non [fosse stato] che il Signore era con noi, -dica ora Israele, -	1 A Canticle in steps. If the Lord had not been with us, let Israel now say it:
2 se non [fosse stato] che il Signore era con noi, quando gli uomini ci si levaron contro,	2 if the Lord had not been with us, when men rose up against us,
3 forse ci avrebbero inghiottiti vivi, nell'infuriar del loro furore contro di noi!	3 perhaps they would have swallowed us alive. When their fury was enraged against us,
4 Forse l'acqua ci avrebbe ingoiati:	4 perhaps the waters would have engulfed us.
5 un torrente ebbe a guadar l'anima nostra; forse avrebbe dovuto l'anima nostra traversareun'acqua insuperabile!	5 Our soul has passed through a torrent. Perhaps, our soul had even passed through intolerable water.
6 Benedetto il Signore, che non ci dettein preda alle loro zanne.	6 Blessed is the Lord, who has not given us into the harm of their teeth.
7 L'anima nostra, qual passero, fu salvadal laccio de' cacciatori. Il laccio fu spezzato, e noi fummo liberi!	7 Our soul has been snatched away like a sparrow from the snare of the hunters. The snare has been broken, and we have been freed.
8 Il nostro aiuto è nel nome del Signore, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra!	8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
