BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Gli abitanti di Zif si recarono da Saul a Gàbaa e gli dissero: «Non sai che Davide è nascosto sulla collina di Achilà, di fronte alla steppa?».	1 Some men from Ziph went to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Look, David is hiding on the Hil of Hachilah onthe edge of the wastelands!'
2 Saul si mosse e scese nel deserto di Zif, conducendo con sé tremila uomini scelti d’Israele, per ricercare Davide nel deserto di Zif.	2 So Saul set off and went down to the desert of Ziph, accompanied by three thousand picked men ofIsrael, to search for David in the desert of Ziph.
3 Saul si accampò sulla collina di Achilà di fronte alla steppa, presso la strada, mentre Davide si trovava nel deserto. Quando si accorse che Saul lo inseguiva nel deserto,	3 Saul pitched camp on the Hil of Hachilah, which is on the edge of the wastelands near the road. Davidwas then living in the desert and saw that Saul had come after him into the desert.
4 Davide mandò alcune spie ed ebbe conferma che Saul era arrivato davvero.	4 Accordingly, David sent out spies and learned that Saul had indeed arrived.
5 Allora Davide si alzò e venne al luogo dove si era accampato Saul. Davide notò il posto dove dormivano Saul e Abner, figlio di Ner, capo dell’esercito di lui: Saul dormiva tra i carriaggi e la truppa era accampata all’intorno.	5 Setting off, David went to the place where Saul had pitched camp. He saw the place where Saul andAbner son of Ner, commander of his army, had bedded down. Saul had bedded down inside the camp with thetroops bivouacking round him.
6 Davide si rivolse ad Achimèlec, l’Ittita, e ad Abisài, figlio di Seruià, fratello di Ioab, dicendo: «Chi vuol scendere con me da Saul nell’accampamento?». Rispose Abisài: «Scenderò io con te».	6 Speaking to Ahimelech the Hittite and Abishai son of Zeruiah and brother of Joab, David said, 'Whowil come down with me to the camp, to Saul?' Abishai answered, 'I will go down with you.'
7 Davide e Abisài scesero tra quella gente di notte, ed ecco Saul dormiva profondamente tra i carriaggi e la sua lancia era infissa a terra presso il suo capo, mentre Abner con la truppa dormiva all’intorno.	7 So in the dark David and Abishai made their way towards the force, where they found Saul lyingasleep inside the camp, his spear stuck in the ground beside his head, with Abner and the troops lying roundhim.
8 Abisài disse a Davide: «Oggi Dio ti ha messo nelle mani il tuo nemico. Lascia dunque che io l’inchiodi a terra con la lancia in un sol colpo e non aggiungerò il secondo».	8 Abishai then said to David, 'Today God has put your enemy in your power; so now let me pin him tothe ground with his own spear. Just one stroke! I shal not need to strike him twice.'
9 Ma Davide disse ad Abisài: «Non ucciderlo! Chi mai ha messo la mano sul consacrato del Signore ed è rimasto impunito?».	9 David said to Abishai, 'Do not kil him, for who could raise his hand against Yahweh's anointed and gounpunished?
10 Davide soggiunse: «Per la vita del Signore, solo il Signore lo colpirà o perché arriverà il suo giorno e morirà o perché scenderà in battaglia e sarà tolto di mezzo.	10 As Yahweh lives,' David said, 'Yahweh himself wil strike him down: either the day wil come for himto die, or he will go into battle and perish then.
11 Il Signore mi guardi dallo stendere la mano sul consacrato del Signore! Ora prendi la lancia che sta presso il suo capo e la brocca dell’acqua e andiamocene».	11 Yahweh forbid that I should raise my hand against Yahweh's anointed! But now let us take the spearbeside his head and the pitcher of water, and let us go away.'
12 Così Davide portò via la lancia e la brocca dell’acqua che era presso il capo di Saul e tutti e due se ne andarono; nessuno vide, nessuno se ne accorse, nessuno si svegliò: tutti dormivano, perché era venuto su di loro un torpore mandato dal Signore.	12 David took the spear and the pitcher of water from beside Saul's head, and they made off. No onesaw, no one knew, no one woke up; they were al asleep, because a torpor from Yahweh had fal en on them.
13 Davide passò dall’altro lato e si fermò lontano sulla cima del monte; vi era una grande distanza tra loro.	13 David crossed to the other side and halted on the top of the mountain a long way off; there was awide space between them.
14 Allora Davide gridò alla truppa e ad Abner, figlio di Ner: «Abner, vuoi rispondere?». Abner rispose: «Chi sei tu che gridi al re?».	14 David then cal ed out to the troops and to Abner son of Ner, 'Abner, why don't you answer?' Abnerreplied, 'Who is that calling?'
15 Davide rispose ad Abner: «Non sei un uomo tu? E chi è come te in Israele? E perché non hai fatto la guardia al re, tuo signore? È venuto infatti uno del popolo per uccidere il re, tuo signore.	15 David said to Abner, 'Are you not a man? Who is your equal in Israel? Why, then, did you not guardthe king your lord? One of the people came to kill the king your lord.
16 Non hai fatto certo una bella cosa. Per la vita del Signore, siete degni di morte voi che non avete fatto la guardia al vostro signore, al consacrato del Signore. E ora guarda dov’è la lancia del re e la brocca che era presso il suo capo».	16 What you did was not wel done. As Yahweh lives, you all deserve to die since you did not guardyour lord, Yahweh's anointed. Look where the king's spear is now, and the pitcher of water which was beside hishead!'
17 Saul riconobbe la voce di Davide e disse: «È questa la tua voce, Davide, figlio mio?». Rispose Davide: «È la mia voce, o re, mio signore».	17 Recognising David's voice, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' David replied, 'It is myvoice, my lord king.
18 Aggiunse: «Perché il mio signore perseguita il suo servo? Che cosa ho fatto? Che male si trova in me?	18 Why is my lord pursuing his servant?' he said. 'What have I done? What crime have I committed?
19 Ascolti dunque il re, mio signore, la parola del suo servo: se il Signore ti incita contro di me, voglia accettare il profumo di un’offerta; ma se sono gli uomini, siano maledetti davanti al Signore, perché oggi mi scacciano lontano, impedendomi di partecipare all’eredità del Signore, dicendo: “Va’ a servire altri dèi”.	19 May my lord king now listen to his servant's words: if Yahweh has incited you against me, may he beappeased with an offering; but if human beings have done it, may they be accursed before Yahweh, since theyhave as effectively banished me today from sharing in Yahweh's heritage as if they had said, "Go and serveother gods!"
20 Almeno non sia versato sulla terra il mio sangue lontano dal Signore, ora che il re d’Israele è uscito in campo per ricercare una pulce, come si insegue una pernice sui monti».	20 So I pray now that my blood shall not be shed on soil remote from Yahweh's presence, when theking of Israel has mounted an expedition to take my life, as one might hunt a partridge in the mountains!'
21 Saul rispose: «Ho peccato! Ritorna, Davide, figlio mio! Non ti farò più del male, perché la mia vita oggi è stata tanto preziosa ai tuoi occhi. Ho agito da sciocco e mi sono completamente ingannato».	21 Saul replied, 'I have done wrong! Come back, my son David; I shal never harm you again, sincetoday you have shown respect for my life. Yes, I have behaved like a fool, I have been profoundly in the wrong.'
22 Rispose Davide: «Ecco la lancia del re: passi qui uno dei servitori e la prenda!	22 In reply, David said, 'Here is the king's spear. Let one of the men come across and get it.
23 Il Signore renderà a ciascuno secondo la sua giustizia e la sua fedeltà, dal momento che oggi il Signore ti aveva messo nelle mie mani e non ho voluto stendere la mano sul consacrato del Signore.	23 May Yahweh reward each as each has been upright and loyal. Today Yahweh put you in my powerbut I would not raise my hand against Yahweh's anointed.
24 Ed ecco, come è stata preziosa oggi la tua vita ai miei occhi, così sia preziosa la mia vita agli occhi del Signore ed egli mi liberi da ogni angustia».	24 As today I set great value by your life, so may Yahweh set great value by my life and deliver me fromevery tribulation!'
25 Saul rispose a Davide: «Benedetto tu sia, Davide, figlio mio. Certo, in ciò che farai avrai piena riuscita». Davide andò per la sua strada e Saul tornò alla sua dimora.	25 Saul then said, 'May you be blessed, my son David! In what you undertake, you wil certainlysucceed.' David then went on his way and Saul returned home.
