1 Così dice il Signore: «Ecco, susciterò contro Babilonia e contro gli abitanti della Caldea un vento distruttore;	1 Yahweh says this: Against Babylon and the inhabitants of Leb-Kamai I shal rouse a destructive wind.
2 io invierò in Babilonia quelli che la vaglieranno come pula e devasteranno la sua regione, poiché le piomberanno addosso da tutte le parti nel giorno della tribolazione.	2 I shal send winnowers to Babylon to winnow her and leave her country bare, for she wil bebeleaguered on all sides, on the day of disaster.
3 Non deponga l’arciere l’arco e non si spogli della corazza. Non risparmiate i suoi giovani, sterminate tutto il suo esercito».	3 Let no archer bend his bow! Let no man swagger in his breastplate!-No quarter for her young men!Curse her whole army with destruction!

	5 For Israel and Judah have not been bereft of their God, Yahweh Sabaoth, although their country wasful of sin against the Holy One of Israel.

11 Aguzzate le frecce, riempite le faretre! Strengthen the guard! Post the sentries! Take upconcealed positions! For Yahweh has both planned and done what he promised he would to the inhabitants ofBabylon.
13 Tu che abiti lungo acque abbondanti, ricca di tesori, è giunta la tua fine, il momento di essere recisa.	13 Enthroned beside abundant waters, rich in treasures, you now meet your end, the finish of yourpil aging.
14 Il Signore degli eserciti lo ha giurato per se stesso: «Ti ho gremito di uomini come cavallette, che intoneranno su di te il canto di vittoria».	14 By his own self Yahweh Sabaoth has sworn: I shal fil you with men as though with grasshoppers,and over you they wil raise the triumph-shout.
15 Il Signore ha formato la terra con la sua potenza, ha fissato il mondo con la sua sapienza, con la sua intelligenza ha dispiegato i cieli.	15 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, by his discernment spread out theheavens.
16 Al rombo della sua voce rumoreggiano le acque nel cielo. Fa salire le nubi dall’estremità della terra, produce le folgori per la pioggia, dalle sue riserve libera il vento.	16 When he thunders there is a roaring of waters in heaven; he raises clouds from the furthest limits ofthe earth, makes the lightning flash for the downpour, and brings the wind from his storehouse.
17 Resta inebetito ogni uomo, senza comprendere; resta confuso ogni orafo per i suoi idoli, poiché è menzogna ciò che ha fuso e non ha soffio vitale.	17 At this everyone stands stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.
18 Sono oggetti inutili, opere ridicole; al tempo del loro castigo periranno.	18 They are futile, a laughable production, when the time comes for them to be punished, they wilvanish.
19 Non è così l’eredità di Giacobbe, perché egli ha formato ogni cosa. Israele è la tribù della sua eredità, Signore degli eserciti è il suo nome.	19 The Heritage of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of everything, and Israel is the tribe that ishis heritage; His name is Yahweh Sabaoth.

22 con te martellavo uomo e donna, con te martellavo vecchio e ragazzo, con te martellavo giovane e fanciulla,	22 with you crushed man and woman, with you crushed old man and young, with you crushed youngman and girl,
23 con te martellavo pastore e gregge, con te martellavo l’aratore e il suo paio di buoi, con te martellavo prìncipi e governatori.	23 with you crushed shepherd and flock, with you crushed ploughman and team, with you crushedgovernors and magistrates,
24 Ma ora ripagherò Babilonia e tutti gli abitanti della Caldea di tutto il male che hanno fatto a Sion, sotto i vostri occhi. Oracolo del Signore.	24 and I shal repay Babylon and the inhabitants of Chaldaea, before your eyes, for al the wrongs theyhave done to Zion, Yahweh declares.
25 Eccomi a te, monte della distruzione, che distruggi tutta la terra. Oracolo del Signore. Stenderò la mano contro di te, ti rotolerò giù dalle rocce e farò di te una montagna bruciata;	25 I am setting myself against you, mountain of destruction, Yahweh declares, destroyer of the wholeworld! I shall reach out my hand for you and send you tumbling from the crags and make you a burnt-outmountain.
26 da te non si prenderà più né pietra d’angolo né pietra da fondamenta, perché diventerai un luogo desolato per sempre». Oracolo del Signore.	26 No corner-stone wil be taken from you again and no foundation-stone, for you will be a desert forever, Yahweh declares.
27 Alzate un vessillo nel paese, suonate il corno fra le nazioni, convocandole per la guerra contro di lei; reclutate contro di lei i regni di Araràt, di Minnì e di Aschenàz. Nominate contro di lei un comandante, fate avanzare i cavalli come cavallette spinose.	27 Raise the standard throughout the world, sound the trumpet among the nations! Consecrate nationsto make war on her; summon kingdoms against her: Ararat, Minni, Ashkenaz; appoint a recruiting-officer for herenemies, bring up the cavalry, bristling like locusts.
28 Preparate alla guerra contro di lei le nazioni, il re della Media, i suoi prìncipi, tutti i suoi governatori e tutta la terra del suo dominio.	28 Consecrate nations to make war on her: the kings of Media, her governors, all her magistrates andthe whole territory under their rule.
29 Trema la terra e freme, perché si avverano contro Babilonia i progetti del Signore di ridurre la terra di Babilonia in luogo desolato, senza abitanti.	29 Then the earth trembled and writhed, for Yahweh's plan against Babylon was being executed: tochange the country of Babylon into an unpopulated desert.
30 Hanno cessato di combattere i prodi di Babilonia, si sono ritirati nelle fortezze; il loro valore è venuto meno, sono diventati come donne. 38 Essi ruggiscono insieme come leoncelli, ringhiano come cuccioli di una leonessa.	38 Like lions they roar together, they growl like lions' whelps.
39 Con veleno preparerò loro una bevanda, li inebrierò perché si stordiscano. Si addormenteranno in un sonno perenne e non si svegliaranno mai più. Oracolo del Signore.	39 Are they feverish? I wil prepare them a drink and make them drink until they are tipsy and fal into aneverlasting sleep, never to wake again, Yahweh declares.
40 Li farò scendere al macello come agnelli, come montoni insieme con i capri».	40 I wil drag them away to the slaughterhouse like lambs, like rams and goats.
41 Come è stata presa e occupata Sesac, l’orgoglio di tutta la terra? Come è diventata un orrore Babilonia fra le nazioni?	41 What! Has Sheshak been taken, been conquered, the pride of the whole world? What a thing of horrorBabylon has become throughout the nations!
42 Il mare dilaga su Babilonia, essa è stata sommersa dalla massa delle onde.	42 The sea has risen over Babylon, she sinks beneath its boisterous waves.
43 Sono diventate una desolazione le sue città, una terra riarsa, una steppa. Nessuno abita più in esse non vi passa più nessun essere umano.	43 Her towns have been turned into wasteland, a parched land, a desert, a country where no one livesand where nobody goes.
44 «Io punirò Bel a Babilonia, gli estrarrò dalla gola quanto ha inghiottito. Non andranno più a lui le nazioni. Persino le mura di Babilonia sono crollate.	44 I shal punish Bel in Babylon and make him disgorge what he has swal owed. In future the nations wilstream to him no more. The very walls of Babylon wil fal .
45 Esci fuori, popolo mio, ognuno salvi la sua vita dall’ira ardente del Signore.	45 Get out of her, my people; save your lives, each one of you, from Yahweh's furious anger.
46 Non si avvilisca il vostro cuore e non temete per la notizia diffusa nel paese; un anno giunge una notizia e l’anno dopo un’altra. La violenza è nel paese, un tiranno contro un tiranno.	46 But do not be faint-hearted! Do not take fright at rumours hawked round the country: one rumourspreads one year, next year another fol ows; violence rules on earth and one tyrant succeeds another.
47 Per questo ecco, verranno giorni nei quali punirò gli idoli di Babilonia. Allora tutto il suo paese sentirà vergogna e tutti i suoi cadaveri cadranno in mezzo ad essa.	47 So look, the days are coming when I shal punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire country wil behumbled, with all her slaughtered lying on home-soil.
48 Esulteranno su Babilonia cielo e terra e quanto contengono, perché da settentrione verranno contro di essa i devastatori. Oracolo del Signore.	48 The heaven and earth and all within them wil shout for joy over Babylon, for the destroyers from thenorth are coming to her, Yahweh declares.
49 Anche Babilonia deve cadere per gli uccisi d’Israele, come per Babilonia caddero gli uccisi di tutta la terra.	49 Babylon in her turn must fal , you slaughtered ones of Israel, just as through Babylon there fel menslaughtered al over the world.
50 Voi scampati dalla spada partite, non fermatevi; da lontano ricordatevi del Signore e vi torni in mente Gerusalemme.	50 You who have escaped her sword, leave her, do not wait! Remember Yahweh from afar, letJerusalem come into your mind.
51 “Sentiamo vergogna perché abbiamo udito l’insulto; la confusione ha coperto i nostri volti, perché stranieri sono entrati nel santuario del tempio del Signore”.	51 -'We were ashamed when we heard of the outrage, we were covered in confusion because foreignershad entered the Temple of Yahweh's holy places.'
52 Perciò ecco, verranno giorni – oracolo del Signore – nei quali punirò i suoi idoli e in tutta la sua regione gemeranno i feriti.	52 -So look, the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shall punish her idols, and the wounded willgroan throughout her country.

59 Ordine che il profeta Geremia diede a Seraià, figlio di Neria, figlio di Macsia, quando egli andò con Sedecìa, re di Giuda, a Babilonia nell’anno quarto del suo regno.
