Geremia 42

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tutti i capi delle bande armate e Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e Azaria, figlio di Osaià, e tutto il popolo, piccoli e grandi, si presentarono	1 Then al the military leaders, in particular Johanan son of Kareah and Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and althe people from least to greatest, approached
2 al profeta Geremia e gli dissero: «Ti sia gradita la nostra supplica! Prega per noi il Signore, tuo Dio, in favore di tutto questo resto, perché noi siamo rimasti in pochi dopo essere stati molti, come vedi con i tuoi occhi.	2 the prophet Jeremiah and said, 'Please hear our petition and intercede with Yahweh your God for usand for al this remnant -- and how few of us are left out of many, your own eyes can see-
3 Il Signore, tuo Dio, ci indichi la via per la quale dobbiamo andare e che cosa dobbiamo fare».	3 so that Yahweh your God may show us the way we are to go and what we must do.'
4 Il profeta Geremia rispose loro: «Comprendo! Ecco, pregherò il Signore, vostro Dio, secondo le vostre parole e vi riferirò quanto il Signore mi risponderà per voi; non vi nasconderò nulla».	4 The prophet Jeremiah replied, 'I hear you; I will indeed pray to Yahweh your God as you ask; andwhatever answer Yahweh your God gives you, I wil tel you, keeping nothing back from you.'
5 Essi allora dissero a Geremia: «Il Signore sia contro di noi testimone verace e fedele, se non faremo quanto il Signore, tuo Dio, ti dirà che dobbiamo fare.	5 They in their turn said to Jeremiah, 'May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do notfol ow the instructions that Yahweh your God sends us through you.
6 Che ci sia gradita o no, noi ascolteremo la voce del Signore, nostro Dio, al quale ti mandiamo, obbediremo alla voce del Signore, nostro Dio, perché ce ne venga del bene».	6 Whether we like it or not, we shal obey the voice of Yahweh our God to whom we are sending you, sothat we may prosper by obeying the voice of Yahweh our God.'
7 Al termine di dieci giorni, la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Geremia.	7 Ten days later the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah.
8 Questi chiamò Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e tutti i capi delle bande armate che erano con lui e tutto il popolo, piccoli e grandi,	8 He then summoned Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him, and al thepeople from least to greatest,
9 e riferì loro: «Così dice il Signore, Dio d’Israele, al quale mi avete inviato perché gli presentassi la vostra supplica:	9 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, to whom you deputed me to present your petition says this,
10 Se continuate ad abitare in questa regione, vi edificherò e non vi abbatterò, vi pianterò e non vi sradicherò, perché mi pento del male che vi ho arrecato.	10 "If you wil only stay in this country, I shal build you and not overthrow you; I shal plant you and notuproot you, for I am sorry about the disaster I have inflicted on you.
11 Non temete il re di Babilonia, che vi incute timore; non temetelo – oracolo del Signore –, perché io sarò con voi per salvarvi e per liberarvi dalla sua mano.	11 Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you fear now; do not fear him, Yahweh declares, for Iam with you to save you and rescue you from his clutches.
12 Io gli ispirerò sentimenti di pietà per voi, così egli avrà compassione di voi e vi lascerà dimorare nella vostra terra.	12 I shal take pity on you, so that he pities you and lets you return to your native soil.
13 Se invece, non dando retta alla voce del Signore, vostro Dio, voi direte: “Non vogliamo abitare in questo paese”,	13 But if you say: We will not stay in this country; if you disobey the voice of Yahweh your God,
14 e direte: “No, vogliamo andare nel paese d’Egitto, perché là non vedremo guerre e non udremo il suono del corno né soffriremo carestia di pane: là abiteremo”,	14 and say: No, Egypt is where we shal go, where we shall not see war or hear the trumpet-cal or goshort of food; that is where we want to live;
15 in questo caso ascoltate la parola del Signore, o resto di Giuda: Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: Se voi decidete veramente di andare in Egitto e vi andate per dimorarvi,	15 in that case, remnant of Judah, listen to Yahweh's word: Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, says this: Ifyou are determined to go to Egypt, and if you do go and settle there,
16 ebbene, la spada che temete vi raggiungerà laggiù nella terra d’Egitto, e la fame che temete vi si attaccherà addosso laggiù in Egitto e là morirete.	16 the sword you fear wil overtake you there in Egypt, and there you wil die.
17 Allora tutti gli uomini che avranno deciso di recarsi in Egitto per dimorarvi moriranno di spada, di fame e di peste. Nessuno di loro scamperà o sfuggirà alla sventura che io manderò su di loro.	17 Yes, al those who are determined to go to Egypt and settle there, wil die by sword, famine andplague: not a single one of them wil survive or escape the disaster I shal inflict on them.
18 Poiché così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: Come si è riversato il mio furore e la mia ira contro gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, così la mia ira si riverserà contro di voi quando sarete andati in Egitto. Voi sarete oggetto di maledizione, di orrore, di esecrazione e di obbrobrio e non vedrete mai più questo luogo».	18 Yes, Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Just as my furious anger was poured out on theinhabitants of Jerusalem, so wil my fury be poured out on you if you go to Egypt: you wil become an object ofexecration and horror, a curse, a laughing-stock; and you wil never see this place again."
19 Questo vi dice il Signore, o superstiti di Giuda: «Non andate in Egitto. Sappiate bene che oggi io vi ho solennemente avvertiti,	19 Remnant of Judah, Yahweh has told you, "Do not go into Egypt." Understand clearly that today I havegiven you a solemn warning.
20 poiché avete messo a rischio le vostre vite, quando mi avete mandato dal Signore, vostro Dio, dicendomi: “Intercedi per noi presso il Signore, nostro Dio, riferiscici ciò che il Signore, nostro Dio, dirà e noi lo eseguiremo”.	20 You were not being sincere when you sent me to Yahweh your God and said, "Intercede for us withYahweh our God; tell us exactly what Yahweh our God says and we wil do it."
21 Oggi ve l’ho riferito, ma voi non ascoltate la voce del Signore, vostro Dio, riguardo a tutto ciò per cui mi ha inviato a voi.	21 Today I have told you, but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God or any part of themessage he sent me to give you.
22 Perciò sappiate bene che morirete di spada, di fame e di peste nel luogo in cui volete andare a dimorare».	22 So understand this clearly: you wil die by sword, famine and plague in the place where you want togo and settle.'
