1 Ora, nel settimo mese, Ismaele, figlio di Netania, figlio di Elisamà, di stirpe regale, si recò con dieci uomini da Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, a Mispa, e mentre là a Mispa prendevano cibo insieme,	1 In the seventh month, however, Ishmael son of Nethaniah son of Elishama, who was of royal descent,came with officers of the king and ten men to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah. And as they were taking theirmeal together, there at Mizpah,
2 Ismaele, figlio di Netania, si alzò con i suoi dieci uomini e colpì di spada Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, figlio di Safan. Così uccisero colui che il re di Babilonia aveva messo a capo del paese.	2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah stood up with his ten men, and attacking Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son ofShaphan, with their swords, they kil ed the man whom the king of Babylon had made governor of the country.
3 Ismaele uccise anche tutti i Giudei che erano con Godolia a Mispa e i Caldei, tutti uomini d’arme, che si trovavano là.	3 And al the Judaeans who were with him, that is with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldaean soldierswho happened to be there, Ishmael killed too.
4 Due giorni dopo l’uccisione di Godolia, quando nessuno sapeva della cosa,	4 On the day after the murder of Gedaliah, before the news had become known,
5 giunsero uomini da Sichem, da Silo e da Samaria: ottanta uomini con la barba rasa, le vesti stracciate e con incisioni sul corpo. When he met themhe said, 'Come to Gedaliah son of Ahikam.'
7 Ma quando giunsero nel centro della città, Ismaele, figlio di Netania, con i suoi uomini li sgozzò e li gettò in una cisterna.	7 But once they were wel inside the town, Ishmael son of Nethaniah slaughtered them, with the help ofhis men, and had them thrown into the storage-wel .
8 Fra quelli si trovavano dieci uomini, che dissero a Ismaele: «Non ucciderci, perché abbiamo nascosto provviste nei campi: grano, orzo, olio e miele». Allora egli si trattenne e non li uccise insieme con i loro fratelli.	8 There were ten of them, however, who said to Ishmael, 'Do not kil us: we have stocks of wheat andbarley, oil and honey, hidden away in the fields.' So he spared them and did not kil them with their brothers.
9 La cisterna in cui Ismaele gettò tutti i cadaveri degli uomini che aveva ucciso era la cisterna grande, quella che il re Asa aveva costruito quando era in guerra contro Baasà, re d’Israele; Ismaele, figlio di Netania, la riempì dei cadaveri.	9 The storage-wel into which Ishmael threw the corpses of all the men he had kil ed was a large one, theone which King Asa had built as a precaution against Baasha king of Israel. Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled itwith the slaughtered men.
10 Poi Ismaele fece prigioniero il resto del popolo che si trovava a Mispa, le figlie del re e tutto il popolo rimasto a Mispa, su cui Nabuzaradàn, capo delle guardie, aveva messo a capo Godolia, figlio di Achikàm. 11 Intanto Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e tutti i capi delle bande armate che erano con lui ebbero notizia di tutto il male compiuto da Ismaele, figlio di Netania.	11 When Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders who were with him heard about al thecrimes committed by Ishmael son of Nethaniah,

14 Tutto il popolo che Ismaele aveva condotto via da Mispa si voltò e, ritornato indietro, raggiunse Giovanni, figlio di Karèach.	14 Al the people whom Ishmael had taken as prisoners from Mizpah turned about, went back and joinedJohanan son of Kareah.
15 Ma Ismaele, figlio di Netania, sfuggì con otto uomini a Giovanni e andò presso gli Ammoniti.	15 Ishmael son of Nethaniah, however, escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to theAmmonites.
16 Giovanni, figlio di Karèach, e tutti i capi delle bande armate che erano con lui presero tutto il resto del popolo che Ismaele, figlio di Netania, aveva condotto via da Mispa dopo aver ucciso Godolia, figlio di Achikàm, uomini d’arme, donne, fanciulli e cortigiani, e li condussero via da Gàbaon.	16 Johanan son of Kareah and al the military leaders with him then ral ied al the remaining peoplewhom Ishmael son of Nethaniah had taken as prisoners from Mizpah after kil ing Gedaliah son of Ahikam: men --fighting men-women, children and eunuchs, whom they brought back from Gibeon.
