BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 «Se vuoi davvero ritornare, Israele, a me dovrai ritornare. Se vuoi rigettare i tuoi abomini, non dovrai più vagare lontano da me.	1 'If you come back, Israel, Yahweh declares, if you come back to me, if you take your Horrors out of mysight, if you go roving no more,
2 Se giurerai per la vita del Signore, con verità, rettitudine e giustizia, allora le nazioni si diranno benedette in te e in te si glorieranno.	2 if you swear, "As Yahweh lives!" truthful y, justly, uprightly, then the nations wil bless themselves by him and glory in him.
3 Infatti così dice il Signore agli uomini di Giuda e a Gerusalemme: Dissodatevi un terreno e non seminate fra le spine.	3 'For Yahweh says this to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, "Clear the ground that lies neglected, do notsow among thorns.
4 Circoncidetevi per il Signore, circoncidete il vostro cuore, uomini di Giuda e abitanti di Gerusalemme, perché la mia ira non divampi come fuoco e non bruci senza che alcuno la possa spegnere, a causa delle vostre azioni perverse.	4 Circumcise yourselves for Yahweh, apply circumcision to your hearts, men of Judah and inhabitants ofJerusalem, or my wrath wil leap out like a fire and burn with no one to quench it, in return for the wickedness ofyour deeds." '
5 Annunciatelo in Giuda, fatelo udire in Gerusalemme; suonate il corno nel paese, gridate a piena voce e dite: “Radunatevi ed entriamo nelle città fortificate”.	5 Announce it in Judah, proclaim it in Jerusalem, say, 'Sound the trumpet in the countryside, shout themessage aloud: Mobilise! Take to the fortified towns!
6 Alzate un segnale verso Sion; cercate rifugio, non indugiate, perché io faccio venire dal settentrione una sventura e una grande rovina.	6 Signpost the way to Zion! Run! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, an immensecalamity.
7 Il leone è balzato dalla sua boscaglia, il distruttore di nazioni si è messo in marcia, è uscito dalla sua dimora, per ridurre la tua terra a una desolazione: le tue città saranno distrutte, non vi rimarranno abitanti.	7 The lion is up from his thicket, the destroyer of nations is on his way, he has come from his home toreduce your land to a desert; your towns wil be in ruins, uninhabited.
8 Per questo vestitevi di sacco, lamentatevi e alzate grida, perché non si è allontanata da noi l’ira ardente del Signore.	8 So wrap yourselves in sackcloth, lament and wail, since Yahweh's burning anger has not turned awayfrom us.
9 E in quel giorno – oracolo del Signore – verrà meno il coraggio del re e il coraggio dei capi; i sacerdoti saranno costernati e i profeti saranno sbigottiti».	9 'That day,' Yahweh declares, 'the king's heart will fail him, the princes' hearts wil fail them too, thepriests wil stand aghast, the prophets stupefied.'
10 Allora io dissi: «Ah, Signore Dio, hai dunque del tutto ingannato questo popolo e Gerusalemme, quando dicevi: “Voi avrete pace”, mentre una spada giunge fino alla gola».	10 Then I said, 'Ah, Lord Yahweh, how sadly you deceived this people and Jerusalem when you used tosay, "You wil have peace," whereas the sword is now at our throats!
11 In quel tempo si dirà a questo popolo e a Gerusalemme: «Il vento ardente delle dune soffia dal deserto verso la figlia del mio popolo, ma non per vagliare, né per mondare il grano.	11 When that time comes, this wil be said to this people and to Jerusalem: The scorching wind from thedesert heights comes towards the daughter of my people -and not to winnow or to cleanse!
12 Un vento minaccioso si alza per mio ordine. Ora, anch’io voglio pronunciare contro di loro la condanna».	12 A gale of wind comes to me from over there. Now I myself shal pass sentence on them!'
13 Ecco, egli sale come nubi e come un turbine sono i suoi carri, i suoi cavalli sono più veloci delle aquile. Guai a noi! Siamo perduti!	13 Look, he is advancing like the clouds, his chariots like a hurricane, his horses swifter than eagles.Disaster for us! We are lost!
14 Purifica il tuo cuore dalla malvagità, Gerusalemme, perché possa uscirne salva. Fino a quando abiteranno in te i tuoi pensieri d’iniquità?	14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long wil you go onharbouring your pernicious thoughts?
15 Ecco, una voce reca la notizia da Dan, annuncia la sventura dalle montagne di Èfraim.	15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.
16 Annunciatelo alle nazioni, fatelo sapere a Gerusalemme: «I nemici vengono da una terra lontana, mandano urla contro le città di Giuda.	16 Report it to the nations, proclaim it to Jerusalem, 'Enemies are coming from a distant country, shoutingtheir war cry against the towns of Judah;
17 Come guardiani di un campo l’hanno circondata, perché si è ribellata contro di me». Oracolo del Signore.	17 they surround her like watchmen round a field because she has rebel ed against me', Yahwehdeclares.
18 La tua condotta e le tue azioni ti hanno causato tutto ciò. Com’è amara la tua malvagità! Ora ti penetra fino al cuore.	18 'Your own behaviour and actions have brought this on yourself. Your wickedness, how bitter, hasstabbed you to the heart!'
19 Le mie viscere, le mie viscere! Sono straziato. Mi scoppia il cuore in petto, mi batte forte; non riesco più a tacere, perché ho udito il suono del corno, il grido di guerra.	19 In the pit of my stomach how great my agony! Walls of my heart! My heart is throbbing! I cannot keepquiet, for I have heard the trumpet call, the battle cry.
20 Si annuncia un disastro dopo l’altro: tutta la terra è devastata. A un tratto sono distrutte le mie tende, in un attimo i miei padiglioni.	20 Ruin on ruin is the news: the whole land is laid waste, my tents are suddenly destroyed, in one momental that sheltered me.
21 Fino a quando dovrò vedere segnali e udire il suono del corno?	21 How long must I see the standard and hear the trumpet cal ?
22 «Stolto è il mio popolo: non mi conosce, sono figli insipienti, senza intelligenza; sono esperti nel fare il male, ma non sanno compiere il bene».	22 'This is because my people are stupid, they do not know me, they are slow-witted children, they haveno understanding, they are clever enough at doing wrong, but do not know how to do right.'
23 Guardai la terra, ed ecco vuoto e deserto, i cieli, e non v’era luce.	23 I looked to the earth -- it was a formless waste; to the heavens, and their light had gone.
24 Guardai i monti, ed ecco tremavano e tutti i colli ondeggiavano.	24 I looked to the mountains -- they were quaking and al the hil s rocking to and fro.
25 Guardai, ed ecco non c’era nessuno e tutti gli uccelli dell’aria erano volati via.	25 I looked -- there was no one at all, the very birds of heaven had al fled.
26 Guardai, ed ecco il giardino era un deserto e tutte le sue città erano state distrutte dal Signore e dalla sua ira ardente.	26 I looked -- the fruitful land was a desert, all its towns in ruins before Yahweh, before his burning anger.
27 Poiché così dice il Signore: «Tutta la terra sarà devastata, ma non la distruggerò completamente.	27 Yes, Yahweh has said this, 'The whole country wil be laid waste, though I shall not annihilate itcompletely.
28 Pertanto la terra sarà in lutto e il cielo si oscurerà: l’ho detto e non mi pento, l’ho pensato e non ritratterò».	28 For this, the earth wil go into mourning and the heavens above grow dark. For I have spoken, I havedecided, I shal not change my mind or go back on it.'
29 Per lo strepito di cavalieri e di arcieri tutti gli abitanti del paese sono in fuga, entrano nelle grotte, si nascondono nella folta boscaglia e salgono sulle rupi. Ogni città è abbandonata, nessuno più vi abita.	29 At the din of horseman and archer the entire city takes to flight: some plunge into the thickets, othersscale the rocks; every town is abandoned, not a single person is left there.
30 E tu, devastata, che cosa farai? Anche se ti vestissi di scarlatto, ti adornassi di fregi d’oro e ti facessi gli occhi grandi con il bistro, invano ti faresti bella. I tuoi amanti ti disprezzano; essi vogliono la tua vita.	30 And, once despoiled, what are you going to do? You may dress yourself in scarlet, put on ornaments ofgold, enlarge your eyes with paint but you make yourself pretty in vain. Your former lovers disdain you, your lifeis what they are seeking.
31 Sento un grido come di donna nei dolori, un urlo come di donna al primo parto; è il grido della figlia di Sion, che spasima e tende le mani: «Guai a me! La mia vita soccombe di fronte agli assassini».	31 Yes, I hear screams like those of a woman in labour, anguish like that of a woman giving birth to herfirst child; they are the screams of the daughter of Zion, gasping, hands outstretched, 'Unhappy me! I am dying,the murderers have kil ed me!'
