1 Figlio, hai peccato? Non farlo più e prega per le colpe passate.	1 Have you sinned, my son? Do so no more, but pray about your former sins.
2 Come alla vista del serpente fuggi il peccato: se ti avvicini, ti morderà. Denti di leone sono i suoi denti, capaci di distruggere vite umane.	2 Flee from sin as from a snake; for if you approach sin, it will bite you. Its teeth are lion's teeth, and destroy the souls of men.
3 Ogni trasgressione è come spada a doppio taglio: non c'è rimedio per la sua ferita.	3 All lawlessness is like a two-edged sword; there is no healing for its wound.
4 Spavento e violenza fanno svanire la ricchezza; così la casa del superbo sarà devastata.	4 Terror and violence will lay waste riches; thus the house of the proud will be laid waste.
5 La preghiera del povero va dalla sua bocca agli orecchi di Dio, il giudizio di lui verrà a suo favore.	5 The prayer of a poor man goes from his lips to the ears of God, and his judgment comes speedily.
6 Chi odia il rimprovero segue le orme del peccatore, ma chi teme il Signore si convertirà di cuore.	6 Whoever hates reproof walks in the steps of the sinner, but he that fears the Lord will repent in his heart.
7 Da lontano si riconosce il linguacciuto, ma l'assennato conosce il suo scivolare.	7 He who is mighty in speech is known from afar; but the sensible man, when he slips, is aware of it.
8 Chi costruisce la sua casa con ricchezze altrui è come chi ammucchia pietre per l'inverno.	8 A man who builds his house with other people's money is like one who gathers stones for his burial mound.
9 Mucchio di stoppa è una riunione di iniqui; la loro fine è una fiammata di fuoco.	9 An assembly of the wicked is like tow gathered together, and their end is a flame of fire.
10 La via dei peccatori è appianata e senza pietre; ma al suo termine c'è il baratro degli inferi.	10 The way of sinners is smoothly paved with stones, but at its end is the pit of Hades.
11 Chi osserva la legge domina il suo istinto, il risultato del timore del Signore è la sapienza.	11 Whoever keeps the law controls his thoughts, and wisdom is the fulfilment of the fear of the Lord.
12 Non diventerà educato chi manca di capacità, ma c'è anche una capacità che aumenta l'amarezza.	12 He who is not clever cannot be taught, but there is a cleverness which increases bitterness.
13 La scienza del saggio cresce come una piena; il suo consiglio è come una sorgente di vita.	13 The knowledge of a wise man will increase like a flood, and his counsel like a flowing spring.
14 L'interno dello stolto è come un vaso rotto, non potrà contenere alcuna scienza.	14 The mind of a fool is like a broken jar; it will hold no knowledge.
15 Se un assennato ascolta un discorso intelligente, l'approverà e lo completerà; se l'ascolta un dissoluto, se ne dispiace e lo getta via dietro la schiena.	15 When a man of understanding hears a wise saying, he will praise it and add to it; when a reveler hears it, he dislikes it and casts it behind his back.
16 Il parlare dello stolto è come un fardello nel cammino, ma sulle labbra dell'intelligente si trova la grazia.	16 A fool's narration is like a burden on a journey, but delight will be found in the speech of the intelligent.
17 La parola del prudente è ricercata nell'assemblea; si rifletterà seriamente sui suoi discorsi.	17 The utterance of a sensible man will be sought in the assembly, and they will ponder his words in their minds.
18 Come casa in rovina, così la sapienza per lo stolto; scienza dell'insensato i discorsi incomprensibili.	18 Like a house that has vanished, so is wisdom to a fool; and the knowledge of the ignorant is unexamined talk.
19 Ceppi ai piedi è la disciplina per l'insensato e come manette nella sua destra.	19 To a senseless man education is fetters on his feet, and like manacles on his right hand.
20 Lo stolto alza la voce mentre ride; ma l'uomo saggio sorride appena in silenzio.	20 A fool raises his voice when he laughs, but a clever man smiles quietly.
21 Ornamento d'oro è la disciplina per l'assennato; è come un monile al braccio destro.	21 To a sensible man education is like a golden ornament, and like a bracelet on the right arm.
22 Il piede dello stolto si precipita verso una casa; l'uomo sperimentato si mostrerà rispettoso.	22 The foot of a fool rushes into a house, but a man of experience stands respectfully before it.
23 Lo stolto spia dalla porta l'interno della casa; l'uomo educato se ne starà fuori.	23 A boor peers into the house from the door, but a cultivated man remains outside.
24 È cattiva educazione d'un uomo origliare alla porta; l'uomo prudente ne resterebbe confuso.	24 It is ill-mannered for a man to listen at a door, and a discreet man is grieved by the disgrace.
25 Le labbra degli stolti ripetono sciocchezze, le parole dei prudenti sono pesate sulla bilancia.	25 The lips of strangers will speak of these things, but the words of the prudent will be weighed in the balance.
26 Sulla bocca degli stolti è il loro cuore, i saggi invece hanno la bocca nel cuore.	26 The mind of fools is in their mouth, but the mouth of wise men is in their mind.
27 Quando un empio maledice l'avversario, maledice se stesso.	27 When an ungodly man curses his adversary, he curses his own soul.
28 Il maldicente danneggia se stesso e sarà detestato dal suo ambiente.	28 A whisperer defiles his own soul and is hated in his neighborhood.
