BIBBIA CEI 1974	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Beato l'uomo che non ha peccato con le parole e non è tormentato dal rimorso dei peccati.	1 Blessed is the man that hath not slipped by a word out of his mouth, and is not pricked with the remorse of sin.
2 Beato chi non ha nulla da rimproverarsi e chi non ha perduto la sua speranza.	2 Happy is he that hath had no sadness of his mind, and who is not fallen from his hope.
3 A un uomo gretto non conviene la ricchezza, a che servono gli averi a un uomo avaro?	3 Riches are not comely for a covetous man and a niggard, and what should an envious man do with gold?
4 Chi accumula a forza di privazioni accumula per altri, con i suoi beni faran festa gli estranei.	4 He that gathereth together by wronging his own soul, gathereth for others, and another will squander away his goods in rioting.
5 Chi è cattivo con se stesso con chi si mostrerà buono? Non sa godere delle sue ricchezze.	5 He that is evil to himself, to whom will he be good? and he shall not take pleasure in his goods.
6 Nessuno è peggiore di chi tormenta se stesso; questa è la ricompensa della sua malizia.	6 There is none worse than he that envieth himself, and this is the reward of his wickedness:
7 Se fa il bene, lo fa per distrazione; ma alla fine mostrerà la sua malizia.	7 And if he do good, he doth it ignorantly, and unwillingly: and at the last he discovereth his wickedness.
8 È malvagio l'uomo dall'occhio invidioso; volge altrove lo sguardo e disprezza la vita altrui.	8 The eye of the envious is wicked: and he turneth away his face, and despiseth his own soul.
9 L'occhio dell'avaro non si accontenta di una parte, l'insana cupidigia inaridisce l'anima sua.	9 The eye of the covetous man is insatiable in his portion of iniquity: he will not be satisfied till he consume his own soul, drying it up.
10 Un occhio cattivo è invidioso anche del pane e sulla sua tavola esso manca.	10 An evil eye is towards evil things: and he shall not have his fill of bread, but shall be needy and pensive at his own table.
11 Figlio, per quanto ti è possibile, tràttati bene e presenta al Signore le offerte dovute.	11 My son, if thou have any thing, do good to thyself, and offer to God worthy offerings.
12 Ricòrdati che la morte non tarderà e il decreto degli inferi non t'è stato rivelato.	12 Remember that death is not slow, and that the covenant of hell hath been shewn to thee: for the covenant of this world shall surely die.
13 Prima di morire fa' del bene all'amico, secondo le tue possibilità sii con lui generoso.	13 Do good to thy friend before thou die, and according to thy ability, stretching out thy hand give to the poor.
14 Non privarti di un giorno felice; non ti sfugga alcuna parte di un buon desiderio.	14 Defraud not thyself of the good day, and let not the part of a good gift overpass thee.
15 Forse non lascerai a un altro le tue sostanze e le tue fatiche per esser divise fra gli eredi?	15 Shalt thou not leave to others to divide by lot thy sorrows and labours?
16 Regala e accetta regali, distrai l'anima tua, perché negli inferi non c'è gioia da ricercare.	16 Give and take, and justify thy soul.
17 Ogni corpo invecchia come un abito, è una legge da sempre: "Certo si muore!".	17 Before thy death work justice: for in hell there is no finding food.
18 Come foglie verdi su un albero frondoso: le une lascia cadere, altre ne fa spuntare, lo stesso avviene per le generazioni di carne e di sangue: le une muoiono, altre ne nascono.	18 All flesh shall fade as grass, and as the leaf that springeth out on a green tree.
19 Ogni opera corruttibile scompare; chi la compie se ne andrà con essa.	19 Some grow, and some fall off: so is the generation of flesh and blood, one cometh to an end, and another is born.
20 Beato l'uomo che medita sulla sapienza e ragiona con l'intelligenza,	20 Every work that is corruptible shall fail in the end: and the worker thereof shall go with it.
21 e considera nel cuore le sue vie: ne penetrerà con la mente i segreti.	21 And every excellent work shall be justified: and the worker thereof shall be honoured therein.
22 La insegue come uno che segue una pista, si apposta sui suoi sentieri.	22 Blessed is the man that shall continue in wisdom, and that shall meditate in his justice, and in his mind shall think of the all seeing eye of God.
23 Egli spia alle sue finestre e starà ad ascoltare alla sua porta.	23 He that considereth her ways in his heart, and hath understanding in her secrets, who goeth after her as one that traceth, and stayeth in her ways:
24 Fa sosta vicino alla sua casa e fisserà un chiodo nelle sue pareti;	24 He who looketh in at her windows, and hearkeneth at her door:
25 alzerà la propria tenda presso di essa e si riparerà in un rifugio di benessere;	25 He that lodgeth near her house, and fastening a pin in her walls shall set up his tent nigh unto her, where good things shall rest in his lodging for ever.
26 metterà i propri figli sotto la sua protezione e sotto i suoi rami soggiornerà;	26 He shall set his children under her shelter, and shall lodge under her branches:
27 da essa sarà protetto contro il caldo, egli abiterà all'ombra della sua gloria.	27 He shall be protected under her covering from the heat, and shall rest in her glory.
