1 Ma i figliuoli d'Israele ricominciarono a far il male nel cospetto del Signore, morto che fu Aod,	1 Once Ehud was dead, the Israelites again began doing what is evil in Yahweh's eyes,
2 E il Signore li diede in potere di Jabin re di Canaan, il quale regnò in Asor: ed ebbe per condottiere del suo esercito uno chiamato Sisara, ed egli abitava in Haroseth delle nazioni.	2 and Yahweh handed them over to Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned at Hazor. The commander of hisarmy was Sisera, who lived in Haroshet-ha-Goi m.
3 E i figliuoli d'Israele alzaron le grida al Signore: perocché Jabin avea novecento cocchi armati di falci, e gli avea vessati fuor di modo per venti anni.	3 The Israelites then cried to Yahweh; for Jabin had nine hundred iron chariots and had cruel y oppressedthe Israelites for twenty years.
4 Ma eravi una profetessa, Debora moglie di Lapidoth, la quale in quel tempo reggeva il popolo.	4 Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at the time.
5 Ella stava a sedere sotto una palma, la quale prese il nome da lei, tra Rama, e Bethel sul monte Ephraim: e andavano a lei i figliuoli d'Israele per tutte le loro liti.	5 She used to sit under Deborah's Palm between Ramah and Bethel in the highlands of Ephraim, and theIsraelites would come to her for justice.
6 Ed ella mandò a chiamare Barac figliuolo di Abinoem di Cedes di Nephthali, e gli disse: II Signore Dio d'Israele ti comanda, va, e conduci l'esercito sul monte Thabor, e prendi teco dieci mila combattenti della tribù di Nephthali, e di quella di Zabulon:	6 She sent for Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, 'Has not Yahweh, God ofIsrael, commanded, "Go! March to Mount Tabor and with you take ten thousand of the sons of Naphtali and thesons of Zebulun.
7 E io condurrò a te in un luogo del torrente Cison Sisara condottiero dell'esercito di Jabin, e i suoi cocchi, e tutta sua gente, e li darò in tuo potere.	7 I shall entice Sisera, the commander of Jabin's army, to encounter you at the Torrent of Kishon with hischariots and troops; and I shal put him into your power"? '
8 Ma Barac le disse: Se tu vieni con meco, io anderò; se non vieni meco, io non mi muovo.	8 Barak replied, 'If you come with me, I shall go; if you will not come, I shal not go, for I do not know howto choose the day when the angel of Yahweh will grant me success.'
9 Ed ella rispose a lui: E bene, io verrò teco, ma per questa volta non sarà attribuita a te la vittoria; perocché Sisara sarà dato nelle mani di una donna. Allora Debora si alzò, e andò con Barac in Cedes.	9 'I shall go with you then,' she said, 'but, the way you are going about it, the glory wil not be yours; forYahweh wil deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.' Deborah then stood up and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 Ed egli, chiamati a se quelli di Zabulon e di Nephthali, si mosse con dieci mila combattenti, avendo Debora in sua compagnia.	10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali. Ten thousand men marched behind him, and Deborah wentwith him.
11 Or Haber Cineo si era discostato dagli altri Cinei suoi fratelli figliuoli di Hobab, parente di Mosè: e avea spiegate le sue tende fino alla valle detta di Sennim, ed era vicino a Cedes.	11 Heber the Kenite had parted company with the tribe of Kain and with the sons of Hobab, father-in-lawof Moses; he had pitched his tent near the Oak of Zaanannim, not far from Kedesh.
12 E Sisara ebbe avviso, come Barac figliuolo di Abinoem era andato al monte Thabor:	12 Sisera was informed that Barak son of Abinoam had encamped on Mount Tabor.
13 E adunò novecento cocchi armati di falci, e si mosse con tutto l’esercito di Haroseth delle nazioni verso il torrente Cison.	13 Sisera summoned all his chariots -- nine hundred iron chariots -- and al the troops he had, fromHarosheth-ha-Goi m to the Torrent of Kishon.
14 E Debora disse a Barac: Levati su; perocché questo è il giorno, in cui il Signore ha dato nelle tue mani Sisara: ecco che egli è tua scorta. Scese adunque Barac dal monte Thabor, e con lui i dieci mila combattenti.	14 Deborah said to Barak, 'Up! For today is the day when Yahweh has put Sisera into your power. Is notYahweh marching at your head?' And Barak charged down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men behindhim.
15 E il Signore gettò spavento sopra Sisara, e i suoi cocchi, e sopra tutta la sua gente, che fu messa a fil di spada al primo apparire di Barac; talmente che Sisara saltato giù dal cocchio fuggissi a piedi:	15 At Barak's advance, Yahweh struck terror into Sisera, all his chariots and his entire army. Sisera leaptdown from his chariot and fled on foot.
16 E Barac inseguì i cocchi che fuggivano, e le schiere fino ad Haroseth delle nazioni: e tutta la turba de' nemici perì dal primo fino all'ultimo.	16 Barak pursued the chariots and the army as far as Harosheth-ha-Goiim. Sisera's whole army fel bythe edge of the sword; not one man was spared.
17 Sisara poi fuggendo arrivò alla tenda di Jahel moglie di Haber Cineo. Imperocché eravi pace tra Jabin re di Azor, e la casa di Haber Cineo.	17 Sisera meanwhile fled on foot towards the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. For there waspeace between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.
18 Uscì adunque Jahel incontro a Sisara, e gli disse: Entra in casa mia, Signore: entra, non temere. Ed egli entrò nella tenda di lei, ed ella lo ricoperse con un mantello.	18 Jael came out to meet Sisera and said to him, 'Stay here, my lord, with me; do not be afraid!' Hestayed with her in her tent, and she covered him with a rug.
19 Ed ei le disse: Dammi di grazia un po’ di acqua, perchè ho gran sete. Ed ella aperse un otre di latte, e diegli da bere, e lo coperse con un mantello.	19 He said to her, 'Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty.' She opened the skin of milk,gave him some to drink and covered him up again.
20 E Sisara le disse: Sta dinanzi alla porta della tenda; e venendo alcuno che domandi, e dica: Vi ha egli qua alcuno? Risponderai: Non ci è nissuno.	20 Then he said to her, 'Stand at the tent door, and if anyone comes and questions you -- if he asks, "Isthere a man here?" say, "No." '
21 Prese adunque Jahel moglie di Haber un chiodo della tenda, e con esso prese anche un martello: e andò tacita, e cheta, e applicò il chiodo sulla tempia del capo di lui, e datogli un colpo di martello lo spinse nel cervello, e conficcò Sisara sulla terra, ed egli passando dal sonno alla morte perì.	21 But Jael the wife of Heber took a tent-peg and picked up a mallet; she crept up softly to him and drovethe peg into his temple right through to the ground. He was lying fast asleep, worn out; and so he died.
22 Quand’ecco che arriva Barac, che dava dietro a Sisara: e Jahel andatagli incontro gli disse: Vieni, e farotti vedere colui che tu cerchi. Ed entrato che fu dentro, vide Sisara giacente, e morto, e il chiodo fitto nella sua tempia.	22 And now Barak came up in pursuit of Sisera. Jael went out to meet him and said, 'Come in, and I wilshow you the man you are looking for.' He went into her tent; and there was Sisera dead, with the tent-pegthrough his temple.
23 Il Signore così umiliò in quel giorno Jabin re di Canaan dinanzi a' figliuoli d'Israele:	23 Thus God that day humbled Jabin king of Canaan before the Israelites.
24 I quali prendevan vigore ogni dì più, e con mano forte premevano Jabin re di Canaan, fino a tanto che l'ebbero distrutto.	24 And the Israelites bore down more and more heavily on that king of Canaan, Jabin, until he was utterlydestroyed.
