1 E Abia si addormentò co' padri suoi, e lo seppellirono nella città di David: e gli succedette nel regno Asa suo figliuolo, a tempo del quale il paese fu in pace per dieci anni.	1 Then Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. And his son, Asa, reigned in his place. During his days, the land was quiet for ten years.
2 Asa fece quel, che era ben fatto, e accetto negli occhi del suo Dio; e atterrò gli altari di culto straniero, e i luoghi eccelsi.	2 Now Asa did what was good and pleasing in the sight of his God. And he overturned the altars of foreign worship, and the high places.
3 E fece in pezzi le statue, e abbattè i boschetti:	3 And he broke apart the statues, and he cut down the sacred groves.
4 E comandò a Giuda, che cercassero il Signore Dio de' padri loro, e osservassero la legge, e tutti quanti i comandamenti:	4 And he instructed Judah that they should seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and that they should carry out the law and all the commandments.
5 E da tutte le città di Giuda tolse via gli altari, e i templi, e regnò in pace.	5 And he took away, from all the cities of Judah, the altars and the shrines. And he reigned in peace.
6 E ristaurò le città forti di Giuda, perchè egli avea quiete, e non fu mossa veruna guerra a suo tempo, concedendo il Signore la pace.	6 Also, he built fortified cities in Judah. For it was quiet, and in his time no wars had arisen. For the Lord was generously granting peace.
7 Ed ei disse a Giuda: Ristauriamo queste città, e circondiamole di mura, e afforziamole di torrazzi colle lor porte, e sbarre, ora che d'ogni parte respiro abbiam dalle guerre, perchè abbiam cercato il Signore Dio de' padri nostri, ed egli ci ha data la pace all'intorno. Si miser dunque a fabbricare, né vi fu cosa, che impedisse il lavoro.	7 Then he said to Judah: “Let us build these cities, and strengthen them with walls, and fortify them with towers and gates and bars, while all things are at rest from wars. For we have sought the Lord, the God of our fathers, and he has granted to us peace on every side.” And so they built, and there was nothing to impede them from building.
8 Or Asa avea nel suo esercito di que', che portavano scudo, e picca, trecento mila uomini di Giuda; di Benjamin dugento ottanta mila armati di scudo, e arcieri, e tutta gente fioritissima.	8 Now Asa had in his army three hundred thousand men of Judah, carrying shields and spears, and truly, of Benjamin, two hundred eighty thousand men with shields and bows. All of these were very valiant men.
9 E si mosse contro di loro Zara re di Etiopia col suo esercito di un milione d'uomini, e trecento cocchi: e si avanzò fino a Maresa:	9 Then Zerah, the Ethiopian, went forth against them with his army of one million men, and three hundred chariots. And he approached as far as Mareshah.
10 E Asa gli andò incontro, e mise l'esercito in ordine di battaglia nella valle di Sephata, che è presso a Maresa:	10 And Asa traveled to meet him, and he set up a battle line for the war in the Valley of Zephathah, which is near Mareshah.
11 E invocò il Signore Dio, e disse: Signore, non havvi divario alcuno per te tral dar soccorso col piccol numero, e'l darlo col numero grande: aiutaci, o Signore Dio nostro: perocché in te, e nel nome tuo avendo fidanza ci siamo mossi contro questa gran turba. Signore, nostro Dio se' tu; non la vinca un uomo appetto a te	11 And he called upon the Lord God, and he said: “O Lord, there is no difference to you, whether you assist by few, or by many. Help us, O Lord our God. For having faith in you and in your name, we have gone forth against this multitude. O Lord, you are our God. Do not allow man to prevail against you.”
12 Il Signore pertanto atterrì gli Etiopi in faccia ad Asa, e a Giuda: e gli Etiopi si diedero alla fuga.	12 And so the Lord terrified the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah. And the Ethiopians fled.
13 E Asa, e le sue genti gl'inseguirono sino a Gerara: e gli Etiopi furon messi in rotta, e sterminati, perchè dal Signore, che li percoteva, furon disfatti, e dall'esercito di lui, che pugnava. Fu adunque fatto un gran bottino.	13 And Asa, and the people who were with him, pursued them as far as Gerar. And the Ethiopians fell, even unto utter destruction, for the Lord was striking, and his army was battling, and they were destroyed. Therefore, they took many spoils.
14 E furono prese per forza tutte le città intorno a Gerara: perocché era entrato in tutti grande sbigottimento: e le città furono saccheggiate, e ne riportarono molta preda.	14 And they struck all the cities surrounding Gerar. For indeed, a great fear had overwhelmed everyone. And they despoiled the cities, and they carried away much plunder.
15 E distrutte eziandio le capanne delle pecore, menaron via un infinito numero di bestiame minuto, e di cammelli. E se ne tornarono a Gerusalemme.	15 Then too, destroying the fencing for the sheep, they took an innumerable multitude of cattle and camels. And they returned to Jerusalem.
