BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele, partita da Elim, giunse nel deserto di Sin, che è tra Elim e il Sinai, ai quindici dei secondo mese dopo l'uscita dall'Egitto.	1 Setting out from Elim, the whole community of Israelites entered the desert of Sin, lying between Elimand Sinai -- on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had left Egypt.
2 Allora tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele si mise a mormorare contro Mosè ed Aronne nel deserto,	2 And the whole community of Israelites began complaining about Moses and Aaron in the desert
3 e a dir loro: « Oh, quanto era meglio esser morti per mano del Signore nella terra d'Egitto, quando sedevamo presso le caldaie della carne e si mangiava pane a sazietà! Perchè ci avete condotti in questo deserto a far morir di fame tutta questa moltitudine? »	3 and said to them, 'Why did we not die at Yahweh's hand in Egypt, where we used to sit round the fleshpots and could eat to our heart's content! As it is, you have led us into this desert to starve this entire assemblyto death!'
4 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Ecco, io vi farò piovere del pane dal Cielo: esca il popolo e ne raccolga quanto gliene bisogna giorno per giorno, e così io provi se egli cammina o no secondo la mia legge.	4 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Look, I shal rain down bread for you from the heavens. Each day thepeople must go out and collect their ration for the day; I propose to test them in this way to see whether they wilfol ow my law or not.
5 Il sesto giorno devono prepararne da serbare, e sia il doppio di quel che solevano raccogliere per ciascun giorno ».	5 On the sixth day, however, when they prepare what they have brought in, this must be twice as muchas they col ect on ordinary days.'
6 Allora Mosè ed Aronne dissero a tutti i figli d'Israele: « Questa sera voi conoscerete che il Signore è Colui che v'ha tratti dalla terra d'Egitto;	6 Moses and Aaron then said to the whole community of Israelites, 'This evening you wil know that itwas Yahweh who brought you out of Egypt,
7 domattina vedrete la gloria dei Signore. Egli ha sentite le vostre mormorazioni contro il Signore; ma noi, e che siamo perchè mormoriate contro di noi? »	7 and tomorrow morning you wil see the glory of Yahweh, for Yahweh has heard your complaints abouthim. What are we, that your complaint should be against us?'
8 E Mosè aggiunse: « Il Signore questa sera vi darà delle carni a mangiare, e domattina del pane a sazietà, avendo egli udite le mormorazioni che lanciaste contro di lui. Noi infatti, che siamo? Le vostre mormorazioni non sono contro di noi, ma contro il Signore ».	8 Moses then said, 'This evening Yahweh wil give you meat to eat, and tomorrow morning bread to yourheart's content, for Yahweh has heard your complaints about him. What do we count for? Your complaints arenot against us, but against Yahweh.'
9 Poi Mosè disse ad Aronne: « Di' a tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele: Avvicinatevi alla presenza del Signore, perchè egli ha sentite le vostre mormorazioni ».	9 Moses then said to Aaron, 'Say to the whole community of Israelites, "Approach Yahweh's presence,for he has heard your complaints." '
10 Or mentre Aronne par lava a tutta la moltitudine dei figli d'Israele, questi volsero gli occhi al deserto, ed ecco la gloria del Signore apparire nella nuvola.	10 As Aaron was speaking to the whole community of Israelites, they turned towards the desert, andthere the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.
11 E il Signore, parlando a Mosè, disse:	11 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said,
12 « Ho udite le mormorazioni dei figli d'Israele; di' dunque loro: Questa sera mangerete della carne, e domattina sarete saziati di pane, e conoscerete che io sono il Signore Dio vostro ».	12 'I have heard the Israelites' complaints. Speak to them as follows, "At twilight you wil eat meat, and inthe morning you will have bread to your heart's content, and then you wil know that I am Yahweh your God." '
13 Venuta adunque la sera, salirono le quaglie che ricopersero gli accampamenti, e la mattina vi fu la rugiada intorno agli accampamenti.	13 That evening, quails flew in and covered the camp, and next morning there was a layer of dew alround the camp.
14 Or dopo che la rugiada ebbe coperta la faccia della terra, apparve nel deserto una cosa minuta come ciò che è pestato nel mortaio, e simile alla brina sulla terra.	14 When the layer of dew lifted, there on the surface of the desert was something fine and granular, asfine as hoarfrost on the ground.
15 E i figli d'Israele veduta che l'ebbero, si dissero l'un l'altro: « Manu », cioè: « Che è questo? », perchè non sapevano che fosse. E Mosè disse loro: « Questo è il pane che il Signore vi ha dato a mangiare.	15 As soon as the Israelites saw this, they said to one another, 'What is that ?' not knowing what it was.'That', Moses told them, 'is the food which Yahweh has given you to eat.
16 Or questi son gli ordini del Signore: Ciascuno ne raccolga quanto gli basta pel suo nutrimento: un gomor a testa ne prenderete, secondo il numero delle persone che abitano in ciascuna tenda ».	16 These are Yahweh's orders: Each of you must collect as much as he needs to eat -- a homer perhead for each person in his tent.'
17 E i figli d'Israele, così facendo, ne raccolsero chi più chi meno,	17 The Israelites did this. They col ected it, some more, some less.
18 ma poi, misuratolo col gomor, chi ne ave va raccolto di più non ne ebbe in maggior quantità, e chi ne aveva raccolto meno non gliene mancava. Ognuno ne raccolse in proporzione di quel che pote va mangiare.	18 When they measured out what they had col ected by the homer, no one who had collected more hadtoo much, no one who had col ected less had too little. Each had col ected as much as he needed to eat.
19 E Mosè disse loro: « Nessuno ne serbi fino alla mattina ».	19 Moses then said, 'No one may keep any of it for tomorrow.'
20 Ma non lo stettero a sentire, e alcuni la conservarono fino alla mattina; ma quella cominciò a brulicare di vermi, e si corruppe; Mosè poi s'adirò contro costoro.	20 But some of them took no notice of Moses and kept part of it for the fol owing day, and it bredmaggots and smelt foul; and Moses was angry with them.
21 Così ognuno la mattina ne raccoglieva quanto poteva bastare pel suo nutrimento, perchè appena il sole si faceva caldo, la manna si squagliava.	21 Morning by morning they collected it, each man as much as he needed to eat, and once the sun grewhot, it melted away.
22 Or il sesto giorno, raccolto il doppio di quel cibo, cioè due gomor per testa, tutti i capi del popolo vennero a dirlo a Mosè,	22 Now, on the sixth day they col ected twice the amount of food: two homer per person, and al theleaders of the community came and told Moses this.
23 Il quale disse loro: « Ecco quanto ha detto il Signore: Domani è il riposo del sabato, consacrato al Signore: fate oggi tutto quello che avete da fare, e cuocete quel che avete da cuocere, e quel che avanza serbatelo per domani ».	23 Moses replied, 'This is what Yahweh said, "Tomorrow is a day of complete rest, a Sabbath sacred toYahweh. Bake what you want to bake, boil what you want to boil; put aside what is left over, to be kept fortomorrow."
24 E avendo essi fatto come Mosè aveva comandato, la manna non si guastò, nè vi si trovò verme alcuno.	24 So, as Moses ordered, they put it aside for the fol owing day, and its smel was not foul nor werethere maggots in it.
25 E Mosè disse: « Mangiatela oggi, perchè è il sabato del Signore, e oggi non potrete trovarne nella campagna,	25 'Eat it today,' Moses said, 'for today is a Sabbath for Yahweh; you will find none in the fields today.
26 per sei giorni raccoglietene; ma il settimo giorno, essendo il sabato del Signore, non ne troverete ».	26 For six days you wil col ect it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there wil be none.'
27 Ora nel settimo giorno, essendo alcuni del popolo andati a raccoglierne, non ne trovarono.	27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to col ect it, but they found none.
28 E il Signore disse a Mosè: « Fino a quando rifiuterete di osservare i miei comandamenti e la mia legge?	28 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'How much longer wil you refuse to obey my commandments and laws?
29 Riflettete che il Signore vi ha dato il sabato, e per questo il sesto giorno vi dà doppia razione di cibo: ognuno se ne stia nella sua tenda, e nessuno esca dalla sua dimora nel settimo giorno ».	29 Look, Yahweh has given you the Sabbath; this is why he gives you two days' food on the sixth day;each of you must stay in his place; on the seventh day no one may leave his home.'
30 Così il popolo si riposò nel settimo giorno.	30 So on the seventh day the people rested.
31 Or la casa d'Israele chiamò quel cibo « Manna »; esso era simile al seme di coriandolo, era bianco ed aveva il sapore di fior di farina col miele.	31 The House of Israel named it 'manna'. It was like coriander seed; it was white and its taste was likethat of wafers made with honey.
32 E Mosè disse: « Questo è ciò che ha ordinato il Signore: empite di manna un gomor, affinchè sia conservata per le future generazioni, ed esse sappiano con qual pane vi ho nutriti nel deserto, dopo avervi tratti dalla terra d'Egitto ».	32 Moses then said, 'These are Yahweh's orders: Fil a homer with it and preserve it for yourdescendants, so that they can see the bread on which I fed you in the desert when I brought you out of Egypt.'
33 E Mosè disse ad Aronne: « Prendi un vaso e mettivi un gomor di manna, poi riponila davanti al Signore, per conservarla alle vostre generazioni ».	33 Moses then said to Aaron, 'Take a jar and in it put a full homer of manna and store it in Yahweh'spresence, to be kept for your descendants.'
34 Secondo l'ordine dato dal Signore a Mosè, Aron ne la pose nel tabernacolo per esservi conservata.	34 Accordingly, Aaron stored it in front of the Testimony, to be preserved, as Yahweh had orderedMoses.
35 E i figlioli d'Israele si cibarono di manna per quaranta anni finché non giunsero in terra abitabile, si nutrirono di questo cibo, finché non toccarono i confini della terra di Canaan.	35 The Israelites ate manna for forty years, up to the time they reached inhabited country: they atemanna up to the time they reached the frontiers of Canaan.
36 Or il gomor è la decima parte dell'efi.	36 A homer is one-tenth of an ephah.
