1 Allora tutto il popolo di Giuda costituì re il suo figlio Ozia, di sedici anni, in luogo di Amasia suo padre.	1 All the people of Judah chose Uzziah, though he was but sixteen years of age, and proclaimed him king to succeed his father Amaziah.
2 Egli edificò Ailat e la riasso gettò a Giuda, dopo che il re si fu addormentato coi suoi padri.	2 He rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah; this was after King Amaziah had gone to rest with his ancestors.
3 Ozia aveva sedici anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò cinquantadue anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Iechelia di Gerusalemme.	3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jecoliah, was from Jerusalem.
4 Egli fece ciò che era giusto negli occhi del Si­gnore, secondo tutto quello che aveva fatto Amasia suo padre,	4 He pleased the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.
5 e cercò il Signore finché visse Zaccaria, uomo che intendeva e vedeva il Signore, e siccome cercò il Signore, il Signore lo diresse in tutto.	5 He was prepared to seek God as long as Zechariah lived, who taught him to fear God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.
6 Infatti egli, uscito a combattere contro i Filistei, distrusse le mura di Get, quelle di Iabnia e le mura d'Azoto, e di più fabbricò dei castelli in Azoto e nel paese dei Filistei.	6 He went out and fought the Philistines and razed the walls of Gath, Jabneh and Ashdod (and built cities in the district of Ashdod and in Philistia).
7 Il Signore lo aiutò e contro i Filistei e contro gli Arabi che abitavano in Gurbaal e contro gli Ammoniti.	7 God helped him against the Philistines, against the Arabs who dwelt in Gurbaal, and against the Meunites.
8 Gli Ammoniti pagavano il tributo a Ozia. Il suo nome si sparse fino all'Egitto a causa delle frequenti vittorie.	8 The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah and his fame spread as far as Egypt, for he grew stronger and stronger.
9 Ozia costruì in Gerusalemme delle torri sopra la porta dell'angolo e sopra la porta della valle, e le altre sopra lo stesso lato delle mura, e le fortificò.	9 Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the Angle, and he fortified them.
10 Fece pure delle torri nel deserto, e scavò moltissime cisterne, avendo molti bestiami, tanto nelle campagne quanto nella vastità del deserto. Egli ebbe anche delle vigne e dei vignaioli sui monti e sul Carmelo, essendo un uomo molto dedito all'agricoltura.	10 He built towers in the desert and dug numerous cisterns, for he had many cattle. He had plowmen in the foothills and the plains, and vinedressers in the highlands and the garden land. He was a lover of the soil.
11 L'esercito dei suoi com­battenti che andavano alla guerra, era sotto il segretario Iehiel, il dottore Maasia e Anania, che era uno dei capi dell'armata del re.	11 Uzziah also had a standing army of fit soldiers divided into bands according to the number in which they were mustered by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the recorder, under the command of Hananiah, one of the king's officials.
12 Il numero completo dei prin­cipi, secondo le famiglie degli uomini di valore, era di due mila seicento.	12 The entire number of family heads over these valiant warriors was two thousand six hundred,
13 Tutto l'esercito che stava ai loro comandi era di trecentosette mila cinquecento uomini abili alla guerra e che com­battevano contro i nemici del re.	13 and at their disposal was a mighty army of three hundred seven thousand five hundred fighting men of great valor to help the king against his enemies.
14 Per tutti costoro, cioè per tutto l'esercito, Ozia fornì scudi, lance, elmi, corazze, archi e fìonde per scagliare sassi.	14 Uzziah provided for them--for the entire army--bucklers, lances, helmets, breastplates, bows and slingstones.
15 In Gerusalemme fece delle macchine di varia specie, che collocò nelle torri e agli angoli delle mura per scagliar frecce e grosse pietre. Si sparse lontano la sua fama, perchè il Signore lo assisteva e gli dava vigore.	15 He also built machines in Jerusalem, devices contrived to stand on the towers and at the angles of the walls to shoot arrows and cast large stones. His fame spread far and wide, and his power was ascribed to the marvelous help he had received.
16 Ma quando giunse ad esser potente, il suo cuore s'insuperbì per sua rovina. Allora non fece più conto del Signore Dio suo, ed entrato nel tempio del Signore volle bruciar l'incenso sopra l'altare del profumo.	16 But after he had become strong, he became proud to his own destruction and broke faith with the LORD, his God. He entered the temple of the LORD to make an offering on the altar of incense.
17 Entrati subito, dietro di lui, il sacerdote Azaria con ottanta sacerdoti del Signore, uomini fortissimi,	17 But Azariah the priest, and with him eighty other priests of the LORD, courageous men, followed him.
18 si opposero al re e gli dissero: « Non spetta a te, Ozia, di bruciar l'incenso al Signore, ma ai sacerdoti, ai figli d'Aronne, che sono stati consacrati per tal ministero: esci dal santuario, non lo schernire, perchè ciò non ti ridonderà a gloria dinanzi al Si­gnore Dio ».	18 They opposed King Uzziah, saying to him: "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who have been consecrated for this purpose. Leave the sanctuary, for you have broken faith and no longer have a part in the glory that comes from the LORD God."
19 Ma Ozia, pieno di sdegno, tenendo in mano un turibolo per bruciare l'incenso, minacciava i sacerdoti. Subito, in presenza dei sacerdoti, nella casa del Signore, presso l'altare del profumo, spuntò la lebbra sulla sua fronte.	19 Uzziah, who was holding a censer for burning the incense, became angry, but at the moment he showed his anger to the priests, while they were looking at him in the house of the LORD beside the altar of incense, leprosy broke out on his forehead.
20 Il pontefice Azaria e tutti gli altri sacerdoti, quando, miratolo, videro la lebbra sulla fronte di lui, lo cacciarono subito. Ed egli stesso, atterrito, s'affrettò ad uscire, perchè aveva subito sentito il castigo del Si­gnore.	20 Azariah the chief priest and all the other priests examined him, and when they saw that his forehead was leprous, they expelled him from the temple. He himself fled willingly, for the LORD had afflicted him.
21 Così il re Ozia fu lebbroso fino alla morte, e dovè stare in una casa separata, pieno di quella lebbra a causa della quale era stato cacciato dalla casa del Signore; e Ioatam suo figlio governava la casa del re e giudicava il popolo.	21 King Uzziah remained a leper to the day of his death. As a leper he dwelt in a segregated house, for he was excluded from the house of the LORD. Therefore his son Jotham was regent of the palace and ruled the people of the land.
22 Il resto delle gesta di Ozia, dalle prime alle ultime, lo scrisse il profeta Isaia, figlio di Amos.	22 The prophet Isaiah, son of Amos, wrote the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last.
23 Ozia si addormentò coi suoi padri, e, perchè lebbroso, fu sepolto nel campo dei sepolcri reali, e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Ioatam.	23 Uzziah rested with his ancestors; he was buried with them in the field adjoining the royal cemetery, for they said, "He was a leper." His son Jotham succeeded him as king.
