Prima lettera a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Ti esorto dunque prima di tutto a far preghiere, supplicazioni, invocazioni, azioni di grazie per tutti gli uomini,	1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,
2 e per i re e tutti quelli che stanno in posizione elevata, affinchè possiamo condurre una vita tranquilla e quieta, con tutta pietà e dignità.	2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.
3 Questo è bello e accetto al cospetto di Dio Salvatore nostro,	3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
4 il quale vuole che tutti gli uomini si salvino, e pervengano al riconoscimento della verità.	4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.
5 Poichè uno è Iddio, uno anche il mediatore fra Dio e gli uomini, Cristo Gesù uomo,	5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,
6 colui che diede se stesso prezzo di riscatto per tutti; testimonianza fatta nel suo proprio tempo;	6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,
7 per la quale io sono stato costituito araldo e apostolo (dico la verità, non mento), maestro dei Gentili nella fede e nella verità.	7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.
8 Io voglio dunque che in ogni luogo preghino gli uomini, alzando mani pure, senz'ira e senza dispute.	8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.
9 Parimenti le donne voglio che si abbiglino in modo decoroso, con verecondia e modestia, non in riccioli e oro o perle o vesti preziose,	9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;
10 ma, come conviene a donne che fan professione di pietà, con opere buone.	10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
11 La donna impari silenziosa e in tutta soggezione;	11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.
12 di far da maestra, alla donna non lo permetto, nè di dominar sull'uomo, ma se ne stia in silenzio.	12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,
13 Poichè prima fu plasmato Adamo, poi Eva.	13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,
14 E Adamo non fu sedotto, fu la donna a lasciarsi sedurre, e però cadde in trasgressione;	14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.
15 sarà salvata per la procreazione di figli, purchè rimanga nella fede e nella carità e nella santità con modestia.	15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.
