Deuteronomio 29

1 - Son questi i termini dell'alleanza, che il Signore comandò a Mosè di contrarre co' figli di Israele, nella terra di Moab, oltre quell'alleanza che con essi aveva contratto in Horeb.	1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "You have seen all that the LORD did in the land of Egypt before your very eyes to Pharaoh and all his servants and to all his land;
2 Chiamò dunque Mosè tutto Israele, e disse loro: «Voi vedeste tutte le cose che il Signore fece dinanzi a voi nell'Egitto, al Faraone, a tutti i suoi ministri, su tutto il suo territorio,	2 the great testings your own eyes have seen, and those great signs and wonders.
3 le prove grandi che videro gli occhi vostri, que' segni e prodigi maravigliosi;	3 But not even at the present day has the LORD yet given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.
4 eppure non v'ha dato il Signore insino ad oggi un cuore che intenda, occhi che veggano, ed orecchi capaci d'udire.	4 'I led you for forty years in the desert. Your clothes did not fall from you in tatters nor your sandals from your feet;
5 Per quaranta anni v'ha fatto da guida nel deserto; non si son logorate le vostre vesti, nè i calzari de' vostri piedi per vecchiezza si son consumati.	5 bread was not your food, nor wine or beer your drink. Thus you should know that I, the LORD, am your God.'
6 Non aveste bisogno di mangiar pane, nè di bere vino o sicera, acciò conosceste che io sono il Signore Dio vostro.	6 When we came to this place, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out to engage us in battle, but we defeated them
7 E giungeste a questa regione; e Seon re di Hesebon, ed Og re di Basan ci uscirono incontro per combatterci; ma noi li sconfiggemmo,	7 and took over their land, which we then gave as a heritage to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh.
8 prendemmo la loro terra, e la demmo in possesso a Ruben e Gad, ed a mezza tribù di Manasse.	8 Keep the terms of this covenant, therefore, and fulfill them, that you may succeed in whatever you do.
9 Osservate dunque i termini di questo patto, e adempiteli, per aver intelligenza in tutto quello che fate.	9 "You are all now standing before the LORD, your God--your chiefs and judges, your elders and officials, and all of the men of Israel,
10 Voi siete oggi tutti davanti al Signore Dio vostro: i principi vostri e delle tribù, gli anziani ed i maestri, tutto il popolo d'Israele,	10 together with your wives and children and the aliens who live in your camp, down to those who hew wood and draw water for you--
11 i figli vostri e le mogli, ed il forestiero che con te alloggia nel campo, ad eccezione di quelli che taglian la legna e portano l'acqua,	11 that you may enter into the covenant of the LORD, your God, which he concluded with you today under this sanction of a curse;
12 per entrare nell'alleanza del Signore Dio tuo; con giuramento oggi la conchiude teco il Signore Dio tuo,	12 so that he may now establish you as his people and he may be your God, as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
13 per far di te il suo popolo, ed esser egli il tuo Dio, com'ha detto a te, e come giurò ai tuoi padri Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe.	13 But it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant, under this sanction of a curse;
14 Nè con voi soli conchiudo io quest'alleanza, e confermo questo giuramento;	14 it is just as much with those who are not here among us today as it is with those of us who are now here present before the LORD, our God.
15 ma con tutti, presenti ed assenti.	15 "You know in what surroundings we lived in the land of Egypt and what we passed by in the nations we traversed,
16 Voi infatti sapete come fummo abitatori nella terra dell'Egitto, e come siamo passati per mezzo alle nazioni; e nel traversare queste,	16 and you saw the loathsome idols of wood and stone, of gold and silver, that they possess.
17 avete veduto le loro abominazioni e brutture, cioè gl'idoli loro di legno e di pietra, d'argento e d'oro, da esse adorati.	17 Let there be, then, no man or woman, no clan or tribe among you, who would now turn away their hearts from the LORD, our God, to go and serve these pagan gods! Let there be no root that would bear such poison and wormwood among you.
18 Non vi sia dunque tra voi uomo o donna, famiglia o tribù, il cui cuore, staccatosi oggi dal Signore Dio vostro, vada a servir agli dèi di quelle nazioni, e divenga tra voi una radice germogliante fiele ed amarezza.	18 If any such person, upon hearing the words of this curse, should beguile himself into thinking that he can safely persist in his stubbornness of heart, as though to sweep away both the watered soil and the parched ground,
19 [Nè vi sia chi] udendo le parole di questo giuramento, ne prenda ansa in cuor suo, per dire: - Io avrò la pace, e seguiterò la depravazione del mio cuore, e si aggiungerà l'ebbrezza alla sete. -	19 the LORD will never consent to pardon him. Instead, the LORD'S wrath and jealousy will flare up against that man, and every curse mentioned in this book will alight on him. The LORD will blot out his name from under the heavens
20 A costui non perdoni il Signore; ma al colmo s'accenda il suo furore ed il suo zelo contro quell'uomo; s'accumulino sopra costui tutte le maledizioni che son scritte in questo libro; cancelli il Signore il nome di lui di sotto il cielo,	20 and will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for doom, in keeping with all the curses of the covenant inscribed in this book of the law.
21 e lo stermini per sempre di fra tutte le tribù d'Israele, secondo le maledizioni contenute nel libro di questa legge ed alleanza.	21 "Future generations, your own descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigners who will come here from far-off lands, when they see the calamities of this land and the ills with which the LORD has smitten it--
22 La generazione futura, i figli che nasceranno di poi, ed i forestieri che verran di lontano, vedranno i flagelli di quella terra, ed i malanni co' quali l'avrà afflitta il Signore,	22 all its soil being nothing but sulphur and salt, a burnt-out waste, unsown and unfruitful, without a blade of grass, destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his furious wrath--
23 bruciandola con zolfo e sale ardente, in modo che non vi si possa più oltre seminare, nè più erba alcuna vi nasca, a somiglianza di Sodoma, Gomorra, Adama e Seboim, che il Signore distrusse nell'ira e furor suo.	23 they and all the nations will ask, 'Why has the LORD dealt thus with this land? Why this fierce outburst of wrath?'
24 E tutte le genti diranno: - Perchè fece così il Signore a quella terra? E che è questa smisurata ira del suo furore? -	24 And the answer will be, 'Because they forsook the covenant which the LORD, the God of their fathers, had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
25 E risponderanno: - Perchè violarono il patto del Signore, ch'egli aveva conchiuso coi loro padri quando li condusse via dall'Egitto;	25 and they went and served other gods and adored them, gods whom they did not know and whom he had not let fall to their lot:
26 e servirono agli dèi stranieri, ed adorarono quelli che essi non conoscevano, ed a' quali non erano stati dati in custodia.	26 that is why the LORD was angry with this land and brought on it all the imprecations listed in this book;
27 Perciò il furor del Signore divampò contro quella terra, in modo da far venire su d'essa tutte le maledizioni scritte in questo libro.	27 in his furious wrath and tremendous anger the LORD uprooted them from their soil and cast them out into a strange land, where they are today.'
28 E li scacciò con ira e furore ed indignazione estrema dalla loro terra, e li sbandò in terra straniera, come oggi si vede. -	28 (Both what is still hidden and what has already been revealed concern us and our descendants forever, that we may carry out all the words of this law.)
29 Al Signore Dio nostro, le cose nascoste! A noi ed a' figli nostri in perpetuo, quelle che son manifeste; e che sappiamo mettere in pratica tutt'i precetti di questa legge!
