BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Gesù, ripieno di Spirito Santo, si ritirò dal Giordano e venne condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto,	1 Fil ed with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert,
2 dove fu tentato per quaranta giorni dal diavolo. In quei giorni non mangiò nulla e quando essi furono passati, ebbe fame.	2 for forty days being put to the test by the devil. During that time he ate nothing and at the end he washungry.
3 Allora il diavolo gli disse: «Se tu sei il Figliuolo di Dio, comanda a questa pietra di trasformarsi in pane».	3 Then the devil said to him, 'If you are Son of God, tel this stone to turn into a loaf.'
4 Gesù gli rispose: «L'uomo non vive di solo pane, ma di ogni parola di Dio».	4 But Jesus replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone.'
5 Il diavolo lo condusse su un alto monte e gli mostrò in un attimo tutti i regni della terra,	5 Then leading him to a height, the devil showed him in a moment of time al the kingdoms of the world
6 dicendogli: «Io ti darò tutta questa potenza e tutta la gloria di questi regni, perchè a me sono stati dati e li dò a chi voglio.	6 and said to him, 'I wil give you al this power and their splendour, for it has been handed over to me, forme to give it to anyone I choose.
7 Se dunque tu ti prostrerai per adorarmi, sarà tutto tuo».	7 Do homage, then, to me, and it shal al be yours.'
8 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Sta scritto: Adora il Signore Dio tuo e a lui solo servi ».	8 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: You must do homage to the Lord your God, him alone youmust serve.'
9 Il diavolo lo condusse allora a Gerusalemme e, posatolo sul pinnacolo del tempio, gli disse: «Se tu sei il Figliuolo di Dio, gettati giù di qui,	9 Then he led him to Jerusalem and set him on the parapet of the Temple. 'If you are Son of God,' he saidto him, 'throw yourself down from here,
10 poichè sta scritto: Per te è stato dato ordine a' suoi angeli di proteggerti	10 for scripture says: He has given his angels orders about you, to guard you, and again:
11 ed essi ti sosterranno con le loro mani, affinchè il tuo piede non inciampi in qualche pietra ».	11 They wil carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.'
12 Gesù gli replicò: «È stato detto: Non tentare il Signore Dio tuo ».	12 But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'
13 Quando il diavolo ebbe finito così di tentarlo, si allontanò da lui fino ad altro tempo.	13 Having exhausted every way of putting him to the test, the devil left him, until the opportune moment.
14 Gesù, pieno della potenza dello Spirito se ne tornò in Galilea e la sua fama si sparse per tutti i dintorni,	14 Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout thecountryside.
15 ed insegnava nelle loro sinagoghe esaltato da tutti.	15 He taught in their synagogues and everyone glorified him.
16 Venne a Nazaret, dov'era stato allevato, ed entrato, secondo l'usanza, in giorno di sabato nella sinagoga, si alzò per fare la lettura.	16 He came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath dayas he usually did. He stood up to read,
17 Gli venne dato il libro del profeta Isaia; ed egli apertolo, trovò quel passo dov'è scritto:	17 and they handed him the scrol of the prophet Isaiah. Unrol ing the scrol he found the place where it iswritten:
18 «Lo Spirito del Signore è sopra me; per questo egli mi ha unto per portare la buona novella ai poveri; mi ha mandato a guarire i contriti di cuore,	18 The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted. He hassent me to proclaim liberty to captives, sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,
19 ad annunciare la liberazione ai prigionieri e la vista ai ciechi, a rimettere in libertà gli oppressi, a predicare l'anno accettevole del Signore e il giorno del premio».	19 to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord.
20 Poi, ripiegato il libro, lo restituì all'inserviente, mentre tutti nella sinagoga tenevano gli occhi fissi su di lui.	20 He then rol ed up the scrol , gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him.
21 Allora egli cominciò a dir loro: «Oggi i vostri orecchi hanno udito l'adempimento di questo passo della Scrittura».	21 Then he began to speak to them, 'This text is being fulfilled today even while you are listening.'
22 E tutti gli rendevano testimonianza, ammirando le parole di grazia che uscivano dalla sua bocca e dicevano: «Non è costui il figlio di Giuseppe?».	22 And he won the approval of all, and they were astonished by the gracious words that came from hislips. They said, 'This is Joseph's son, surely?'
23 E disse a loro: «Certo, voi mi citerete quel proverbio: Medico, cura te stesso! Quanto udimmo avvenuto in Cafarnao, fallo anche qui nella tua patria».	23 But he replied, 'No doubt you will quote me the saying, "Physician, heal yourself," and tel me, "We have heard al that happened in Capernaum, do the same here in your own country." '
24 Poi soggiunse: «In verità vi dico che nessun profeta è bene accetto nella sua patria.	24 And he went on, 'In truth I tel you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.
25 In verità vi dico pure che al tempo di Elia, quando il cielo stette chiuso per tre anni e sei mesi e vi fu grande carestia in tutto il paese, c'erano parecchie vedove in Israele;	25 'There were many widows in Israel, I can assure you, in Elijah's day, when heaven remained shut forthree years and six months and a great famine raged throughout the land,
26 eppure a nessuna di esse, viene mandato a Elia, se non ad una vedova in Sarepta di Sidone.	26 but Elijah was not sent to any one of these: he was sent to a widow at Zarephath, a town in Sidonia.
27 E al tempo del profeta Eliseo v'erano molti lebbrosi in Israele; e nessuno di essi fu mondato, eccetto Naaman, il Siro».	27 And in the prophet Elisha's time there were many suffering from virulent skin-diseases in Israel, butnone of these was cured -- only Naaman the Syrian.'
28 All'udir queste cose, tutti nella sinagoga furono pieni di sdegno;	28 When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.
29 e, levatisi, lo cacciarono fuori della città e lo condussero fino sul ciglio del monte, sul quale era fabbricata la loro città, per scaraventarlo giù.	29 They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hilltheir town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,
30 Ma egli, passando in mezzo a loro, se ne andò.	30 but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.
31 Arrivò a Cafarnao, città della Galilea dove nei sabati insegnava.	31 He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught them on the Sabbath.
32 E tutti stupivano della sua dottrina perchè egli parlava con autorità.	32 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because his word carried authority.
33 Nella sinagoga v'era un uomo, posseduto da uno spirito immondo, che si pose a gridare:	33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by the spirit of an unclean devil, and he shouted at thetop of his voice,
34 «Lasciaci stare; che v'è fra noi e te, Gesù di Nazaret? Sei venuto per perderci? Io so chi tu sei, il santo di Dio».	34 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who youare: the Holy One of God.'
35 E Gesù sgridandolo, gli disse: «Taci ed esci da costui!». E il demonio, gettatolo per terra in mezzo all'adunanza, uscì da lui senza fargli alcun male.	35 But Jesus rebuked it, saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!' And the devil, throwing the man into themiddle, went out of him without hurting him at all.
36 E tutti, sbigottiti, andavano ragionando tra loro, e dicendo: «Qual parola è mai questa? Egli comanda con autorità e forza agli spiriti immondi e questi escono».	36 Astonishment seized them and they were al saying to one another, 'What is it in his words? He givesorders to unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out.'
37 E la fama di lui si spargeva ovunque nel paese.	37 And the news of him travel ed al through the surrounding countryside.
38 Gesù levatosi e uscito dalla sinagoga, entrò nella casa di Simone, la cui suocera era presa da febbre violenta, e lo pregarono per lei.	38 Leaving the synagogue he went to Simon's house. Now Simon's mother-in-law was in the grip of ahigh fever and they asked him to do something for her.
39 Egli, chinatosi verso di lei, comandò alla febbre e la febbre la lasciò, così che essa, alzatasi prontamente si mise a servirli.	39 Standing over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to servethem.
40 Tramontato il sole, tutti quelli che avevano infermi, affetti da varie malattie, li conducevano a lui ed egli, imposte a ciascuno le mani, li risanava.	40 At sunset al those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them tohim, and laying his hands on each he cured them.
41 Così da molti uscivano i demoni, gridando e dicendo: «Tu sei il Figliuol di Dio!». Ma egli li sgridava e non permetteva loro di dire che sapevano lui essere il Cristo.	41 Devils too came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God.' But he warned them andwould not al ow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 Poi, fattosi giorno, uscì e andò in un luogo solitario; il popolo intanto lo cercava e giunse fino a lui; e lo volevano trattenere, perchè non s'allontanasse da loro.	42 When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look forhim, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them,
43 Ma egli disse: «Bisogna che io annunzi anche alle altre città la buona novella del regno di Dio; perchè appunto per questo sono stato mandato».	43 but he answered, 'I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns too,because that is what I was sent to do.'
44 E andava predicando nelle sinagoghe di Galilea.	44 And he continued his proclamation in the synagogues of Judaea.
