1 - Gesù, ripieno di Spirito Santo, si ritirò dal Giordano e venne condotto dallo Spirito nel deserto,	1 Filled with the holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert
2 dove fu tentato per quaranta giorni dal diavolo. In quei giorni non mangiò nulla e quando essi furono passati, ebbe fame.	2 for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over he was hungry.
3 Allora il diavolo gli disse: «Se tu sei il Figliuolo di Dio, comanda a questa pietra di trasformarsi in pane».	3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."
4 Gesù gli rispose: «L'uomo non vive di solo pane, ma di ogni parola di Dio».	4 Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'One does not live by bread alone.'"
5 Il diavolo lo condusse su un alto monte e gli mostrò in un attimo tutti i regni della terra,	5 Then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant.
6 dicendogli: «Io ti darò tutta questa potenza e tutta la gloria di questi regni, perchè a me sono stati dati e li dò a chi voglio.	6 The devil said to him, "I shall give to you all this power and their glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I may give it to whomever I wish.
7 Se dunque tu ti prostrerai per adorarmi, sarà tutto tuo».	7 All this will be yours, if you worship me."
8 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Sta scritto: Adora il Signore Dio tuo e a lui solo servi ».	8 Jesus said to him in reply, "It is written: 'You shall worship the Lord, your God, and him alone shall you serve.'"
9 Il diavolo lo condusse allora a Gerusalemme e, posatolo sul pinnacolo del tempio, gli disse: «Se tu sei il Figliuolo di Dio, gettati giù di qui,	9 Then he led him to Jerusalem, made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,
10 poichè sta scritto: Per te è stato dato ordine a' suoi angeli di proteggerti	10 for it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,'
11 ed essi ti sosterranno con le loro mani, affinchè il tuo piede non inciampi in qualche pietra ».	11 and: 'With their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"
12 Gesù gli replicò: «È stato detto: Non tentare il Signore Dio tuo ».	12 Jesus said to him in reply, "It also says, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'"
13 Quando il diavolo ebbe finito così di tentarlo, si allontanò da lui fino ad altro tempo.	13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.
14 Gesù, pieno della potenza dello Spirito se ne tornò in Galilea e la sua fama si sparse per tutti i dintorni,	14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news of him spread throughout the whole region.
15 ed insegnava nelle loro sinagoghe esaltato da tutti.	15 He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.
16 Venne a Nazaret, dov'era stato allevato, ed entrato, secondo l'usanza, in giorno di sabato nella sinagoga, si alzò per fare la lettura.	16 He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read
17 Gli venne dato il libro del profeta Isaia; ed egli apertolo, trovò quel passo dov'è scritto:	17 and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:
18 «Lo Spirito del Signore è sopra me; per questo egli mi ha unto per portare la buona novella ai poveri; mi ha mandato a guarire i contriti di cuore,	18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,
19 ad annunciare la liberazione ai prigionieri e la vista ai ciechi, a rimettere in libertà gli oppressi, a predicare l'anno accettevole del Signore e il giorno del premio».	19 and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."
20 Poi, ripiegato il libro, lo restituì all'inserviente, mentre tutti nella sinagoga tenevano gli occhi fissi su di lui.	20 Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him.
21 Allora egli cominciò a dir loro: «Oggi i vostri orecchi hanno udito l'adempimento di questo passo della Scrittura».	21 He said to them, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."
22 E tutti gli rendevano testimonianza, ammirando le parole di grazia che uscivano dalla sua bocca e dicevano: «Non è costui il figlio di Giuseppe?».	22 And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, "Isn't this the son of Joseph?"
23 E disse a loro: «Certo, voi mi citerete quel proverbio: Medico, cura te stesso! Quanto udimmo avvenuto in Cafarnao, fallo anche qui nella tua patria».	23 He said to them, "Surely you will quote me this proverb, 'Physician, cure yourself,' and say, 'Do here in your native place the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.'"
24 Poi soggiunse: «In verità vi dico che nessun profeta è bene accetto nella sua patria.	24 And he said, "Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.
25 In verità vi dico pure che al tempo di Elia, quando il cielo stette chiuso per tre anni e sei mesi e vi fu grande carestia in tutto il paese, c'erano parecchie vedove in Israele;	25 Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land.
26 eppure a nessuna di esse, viene mandato a Elia, se non ad una vedova in Sarepta di Sidone.	26 It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon.
27 E al tempo del profeta Eliseo v'erano molti lebbrosi in Israele; e nessuno di essi fu mondato, eccetto Naaman, il Siro».	27 Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian."
28 All'udir queste cose, tutti nella sinagoga furono pieni di sdegno;	28 When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury.
29 e, levatisi, lo cacciarono fuori della città e lo condussero fino sul ciglio del monte, sul quale era fabbricata la loro città, per scaraventarlo giù.	29 They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong.
30 Ma egli, passando in mezzo a loro, se ne andò.	30 But he passed through the midst of them and went away.
31 Arrivò a Cafarnao, città della Galilea dove nei sabati insegnava.	31 Jesus then went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee. He taught them on the sabbath,
32 E tutti stupivano della sua dottrina perchè egli parlava con autorità.	32 and they were astonished at his teaching because he spoke with authority.
33 Nella sinagoga v'era un uomo, posseduto da uno spirito immondo, che si pose a gridare:	33 In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out in a loud voice,
34 «Lasciaci stare; che v'è fra noi e te, Gesù di Nazaret? Sei venuto per perderci? Io so chi tu sei, il santo di Dio».	34 "Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"
35 E Gesù sgridandolo, gli disse: «Taci ed esci da costui!». E il demonio, gettatolo per terra in mezzo all'adunanza, uscì da lui senza fargli alcun male.	35 Jesus rebuked him and said, "Be quiet! Come out of him!" Then the demon threw the man down in front of them and came out of him without doing him any harm.
36 E tutti, sbigottiti, andavano ragionando tra loro, e dicendo: «Qual parola è mai questa? Egli comanda con autorità e forza agli spiriti immondi e questi escono».	36 They were all amazed and said to one another, "What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out."
37 E la fama di lui si spargeva ovunque nel paese.	37 And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.
38 Gesù levatosi e uscito dalla sinagoga, entrò nella casa di Simone, la cui suocera era presa da febbre violenta, e lo pregarono per lei.	38 After he left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her.
39 Egli, chinatosi verso di lei, comandò alla febbre e la febbre la lasciò, così che essa, alzatasi prontamente si mise a servirli.	39 He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.
40 Tramontato il sole, tutti quelli che avevano infermi, affetti da varie malattie, li conducevano a lui ed egli, imposte a ciascuno le mani, li risanava.	40 At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
41 Così da molti uscivano i demoni, gridando e dicendo: «Tu sei il Figliuol di Dio!». Ma egli li sgridava e non permetteva loro di dire che sapevano lui essere il Cristo.	41 And demons also came out from many, shouting, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Messiah.
42 Poi, fattosi giorno, uscì e andò in un luogo solitario; il popolo intanto lo cercava e giunse fino a lui; e lo volevano trattenere, perchè non s'allontanasse da loro.	42 At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
43 Ma egli disse: «Bisogna che io annunzi anche alle altre città la buona novella del regno di Dio; perchè appunto per questo sono stato mandato».	43 But he said to them, "To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent."
44 E andava predicando nelle sinagoghe di Galilea.	44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
