1 - In uno di quei giorni, mentre insegnava al popolo nel tempio e annunziava la buona novella,	1 One day as he was teaching the people in the temple area and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and scribes, together with the elders, approached him
2 Sopraggiunsero i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi con gli anziani e gli chiesero: «Dicci con quale autorità fai tu queste cose, oppure chi ti ha dato questa autorità?».	2 and said to him, "Tell us, by what authority are you doing these things? Or who is the one who gave you this authority?"
3 Ed egli rispose loro: «Anch'io vi farò una domanda. Rispondetemi:	3 He said to them in reply, "I shall ask you a question. Tell me,
4 - Il battesimo di Giovanni veniva dal cielo o dagli uomini? -».	4 was John's baptism of heavenly or of human origin?"
5 Ed essi facevan tra loro queste considerazioni: «Se diciamo che veniva dal cielo, ci dirà: - Perchè dunque non gli avete creduto? -,	5 They discussed this among themselves, and said, "If we say, 'Of heavenly origin,' he will say, 'Why did you not believe him?'
6 e se diciamo che veniva dagli uomini, tutto il popolo ci lapiderà, persuaso com'è che Giovanni fosse un profeta».	6 But if we say, 'Of human origin,' then all the people will stone us, for they are convinced that John was a prophet."
7 Perciò risposero che non sapevano donde venisse.	7 So they answered that they did not know from where it came.
8 E Gesù replicò loro: «Neppure io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose».	8 Then Jesus said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things."
9 Poi cominciò a raccontare al popolo questa parabola: «Un uomo piantò una vigna e datala in affitto a dei coloni, se n'andò per un lungo viaggio.	9 Then he proceeded to tell the people this parable. "(A) man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and then went on a journey for a long time.
10 A suo tempo, mandò ai coloni un servo, perchè gli dessero conto dei prodotti della vigna; ma i coloni lo picchiarono e lo rimandarono a mani vuote.	10 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenant farmers to receive some of the produce of the vineyard. But they beat the servant and sent him away empty-handed.
11 Mandò ancora un altro servo; ma essi, picchiato e vituperato anche costui, lo rimandarono a mani vuote.	11 So he proceeded to send another servant, but him also they beat and insulted and sent away empty-handed.
12 Egli allora ne mandò un terzo; ed essi, ferito anche lui, lo scannarono.	12 Then he proceeded to send a third, but this one too they wounded and threw out.
13 Allora disse il padrone della vigna: - Che farò? Manderò il mio figliuolo diletto; forse, quando lo vedranno, avranno rispetto per lui. -	13 The owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I shall send my beloved son; maybe they will respect him.'
14 Ma i coloni, vistolo appena, complottaron tra loro e dissero: - Costui è l'erede; uccidiamolo e l'eredità sarà nostra. -	14 But when the tenant farmers saw him they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him that the inheritance may become ours.'
15 E, cacciatolo fuor della vigna, lo uccisero. Ora che farà di costoro il padrone della vigna?	15 So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 Verrà, sterminerà quei coloni e darà ad altri la vigna». Ma essi avendo udito ciò, dissero: «Non sia mai».	16 He will come and put those tenant farmers to death and turn over the vineyard to others." When the people heard this, they exclaimed, "Let it not be so!"
17 Egli però, fissatili, disse: «Che vuol dire dunque quanto sta scritto: La pietra rigettata dai costruttori è divenuta pietra angolare ?	17 But he looked at them and asked, "What then does this scripture passage mean: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone'?
18 Chiunque cadrà su quella pietra sarà sfracellato, ed essa stritolerà colui sul quale cade».	18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be dashed to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls."
19 Gli Scribi e i principi dei Sacerdoti cercarono di mettergli immediatamente le mani addosso, ma ebbero paura del popolo, perchè capiron che questa parabola l'aveva raccontata per loro.	19 The scribes and chief priests sought to lay their hands on him at that very hour, but they feared the people, for they knew that he had addressed this parable to them.
20 Essi spiandolo gli mandarono insidiatori, i quali si fingessero giusti per sorprenderlo in fallo nella sua conversazione, e poterlo così dare in mano delle autorità e in balìa del preside.	20 They watched him closely and sent agents pretending to be righteous who were to trap him in speech, in order to hand him over to the authority and power of the governor.
21 Costoro lo interrogarono: «Maestro, sappiamo che tu parli e insegni rettamente, e non guardi in viso a nessuno, ma insegni la via di Dio con verità.	21 They posed this question to him, "Teacher, we know that what you say and teach is correct, and you show no partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth.
22 È lecito a noi pagare il tributo a Cesare, o no?».	22 Is it lawful for us to pay tribute to Caesar or not?"
23 Egli, conoscendo la loro astuzia, rispose loro: «Perchè mi tentate?	23 Recognizing their craftiness he said to them,
24 Mostratemi un danaro. Di chi è l'immagine e l'iscrizione?». Gli risposero: «Di Cesare».	24 "Show me a denarius; whose image and name does it bear?" They replied, "Caesar's."
25 «Rendete dunque», soggiunse loro «a Cesare quel che è di Cesare e a Dio quel che è di Dio».	25 So he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."
26 E così in nessuna parola potevano trovare un pretesto, davanti al popolo, e ammirati della sua risposta, stettero zitti.	26 They were unable to trap him by something he might say before the people, and so amazed were they at his reply that they fell silent.
27 Alcuni Sadducei, i quali negano che vi sia la resurrezione, s'accostarono a lui e lo interrogarono	27 Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to him,
28 così: «Maestro, Mosè ha lasciato scritto: Se un uomo, avendo moglie, muore senza lasciare figli, suo fratello ne sposi la vedova e susciti prole al fratello .	28 saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us, 'If someone's brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother.'
29 Ora c'erano sette fratelli; il primo prese moglie e morì senza figliuoli.	29 Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless.
30 Il secondo ne sposò la vedova ed egli pure morì senza figliuoli.	30 Then the second
31 Il terzo la sposò e lo stesso fecero tutt'e sette, che morirono senza lasciar figliuoli.	31 and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless.
32 Ultima di tutti, morì anche la donna.	32 Finally the woman also died.
33 Di chi dunque, nella resurrezione, sarà moglie, mentre lo è stata di tutt'e sette?».	33 Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her."
34 Gesù rispose loro: «I figli di questo mondo si sposano e si maritano;	34 Jesus said to them, "The children of this age marry and remarry;
35 ma coloro che saranno ritenuti degni del mondo futuro e della resurrezione dei morti, non si ammoglieranno e non si mariteranno;	35 but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.
36 perchè non potranno più morire; sono come gli angeli e son figliuoli di Dio, essendo figliuoli della resurrezione.	36 They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise.
37 Che poi i morti abbiano a risorgere lo dichiarò anche Mosè nel passo del Roveto , quando chiama il Signore il Dio d'Abramo, il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe.	37 That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called 'Lord' the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
38 Ora Egli non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi; poichè, per lui, tutti son vivi».	38 and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive."
39 Alcuni degli Scribi soggiunsero: «Maestro, hai detto bene».	39 Some of the scribes said in reply, "Teacher, you have answered well."
40 E non osarono più fargli domanda.	40 And they no longer dared to ask him anything.
41 Egli domandò loro: «Come mai si dice che il Cristo sia figlio di David?	41 Then he said to them, "How do they claim that the Messiah is the Son of David?
42 Mentre David stesso nel libro dei Salmi dice: Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: - Siedi alla mia destra,	42 For David himself in the Book of Psalms says: 'The Lord said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand
43 finchè io abbia posto i tuoi nemici come sgabelli ai tuoi piedi -?	43 till I make your enemies your footstool."'
44 Dunque David lo chiama Signore; come mai allora può essere suo figliuolo?».	44 Now if David calls him 'lord,' how can he be his son?"
45 E mentre tutto il popolo lo stava ascoltando, egli disse a' suoi discepoli:	45 Then, within the hearing of all the people, he said to (his) disciples,
46 «Guardatevi dagli Scribi, i quali passeggiano volentieri in lunghe vesti, e amano le riverenze nelle piazze e i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e i primi posti nei conviti;	46 "Be on guard against the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and love greetings in marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets.
47 essi che divorano le case delle vedove e pregano a lungo per farsi vedere. A costoro toccherà una condanna più rigorosa».	47 They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation."
