1 - In uno di quei giorni, mentre insegnava al popolo nel tempio e annunziava la buona novella,	1 And it came to pass, that on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, with the ancients, met together,
2 Sopraggiunsero i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi con gli anziani e gli chiesero: «Dicci con quale autorità fai tu queste cose, oppure chi ti ha dato questa autorità?».	2 And spoke to him, saying: Tell us, by what authority dost thou these things? or, Who is he that hath given thee this authority?
3 Ed egli rispose loro: «Anch'io vi farò una domanda. Rispondetemi:	3 And Jesus answering, said to them: I will also ask you one thing. Answer me:
4 - Il battesimo di Giovanni veniva dal cielo o dagli uomini? -».	4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
5 Ed essi facevan tra loro queste considerazioni: «Se diciamo che veniva dal cielo, ci dirà: - Perchè dunque non gli avete creduto? -,	5 But they thought within themselves, saying: If we shall say, From heaven: he will say: Why then did you not believe him?
6 e se diciamo che veniva dagli uomini, tutto il popolo ci lapiderà, persuaso com'è che Giovanni fosse un profeta».	6 But if we say, Of men, the whole people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 Perciò risposero che non sapevano donde venisse.	7 And they answered, that they knew not whence it was.
8 E Gesù replicò loro: «Neppure io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose».	8 And Jesus said to them: Neither do I tell thee by what authority I do these things.
9 Poi cominciò a raccontare al popolo questa parabola: «Un uomo piantò una vigna e datala in affitto a dei coloni, se n'andò per un lungo viaggio.	9 And he began to speak to the people this parable: A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen: and he was abroad for a long time.
10 A suo tempo, mandò ai coloni un servo, perchè gli dessero conto dei prodotti della vigna; ma i coloni lo picchiarono e lo rimandarono a mani vuote.	10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard. Who, beating him, sent him away empty.
11 Mandò ancora un altro servo; ma essi, picchiato e vituperato anche costui, lo rimandarono a mani vuote.	11 And again he sent another servant. But they beat him also, and treating him reproachfully, sent him away empty.
12 Egli allora ne mandò un terzo; ed essi, ferito anche lui, lo scannarono.	12 And again he sent the third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13 Allora disse il padrone della vigna: - Che farò? Manderò il mio figliuolo diletto; forse, quando lo vedranno, avranno rispetto per lui. -	13 Then the lord of the vineyard said: What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be, when they see him, they will reverence him.
14 Ma i coloni, vistolo appena, complottaron tra loro e dissero: - Costui è l'erede; uccidiamolo e l'eredità sarà nostra. -	14 Whom when the husbandmen saw, they thought within themselves, saying: This is the heir, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15 E, cacciatolo fuor della vigna, lo uccisero. Ora che farà di costoro il padrone della vigna?	15 So casting him out of the vineyard, they killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 Verrà, sterminerà quei coloni e darà ad altri la vigna». Ma essi avendo udito ciò, dissero: «Non sia mai».	16 He will come, and will destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. Which they hearing, said to him: God forbid.
17 Egli però, fissatili, disse: «Che vuol dire dunque quanto sta scritto: La pietra rigettata dai costruttori è divenuta pietra angolare ?	17 But he looking on them, said: What is this then that is written, The stone, which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18 Chiunque cadrà su quella pietra sarà sfracellato, ed essa stritolerà colui sul quale cade».	18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone, shall be bruised: and upon whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19 Gli Scribi e i principi dei Sacerdoti cercarono di mettergli immediatamente le mani addosso, ma ebbero paura del popolo, perchè capiron che questa parabola l'aveva raccontata per loro.	19 And the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him the same hour: but they feared the people, for they knew that he spoke this parable to them.
20 Essi spiandolo gli mandarono insidiatori, i quali si fingessero giusti per sorprenderlo in fallo nella sua conversazione, e poterlo così dare in mano delle autorità e in balìa del preside.	20 And being upon the watch, they sent spies, who should feign themselves just, that they might take hold of him in his words, that they might deliver him up to the authority and power of the governor.
21 Costoro lo interrogarono: «Maestro, sappiamo che tu parli e insegni rettamente, e non guardi in viso a nessuno, ma insegni la via di Dio con verità.	21 And they asked him, saying: Master, we know that thou speakest and teachest rightly: and thou dost not respect any person, but teachest the way of God in truth.
22 È lecito a noi pagare il tributo a Cesare, o no?».	22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or no?
23 Egli, conoscendo la loro astuzia, rispose loro: «Perchè mi tentate?	23 But he considering their guile, said to them: Why tempt you me?
24 Mostratemi un danaro. Di chi è l'immagine e l'iscrizione?». Gli risposero: «Di Cesare».	24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and inscription hath it? They answering, said to him, Caesar's.
25 «Rendete dunque», soggiunse loro «a Cesare quel che è di Cesare e a Dio quel che è di Dio».	25 And he said to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's: and to God the things that are God's.
26 E così in nessuna parola potevano trovare un pretesto, davanti al popolo, e ammirati della sua risposta, stettero zitti.	26 And they could not reprehend his word before the people: and wondering at his answer, they held their peace.
27 Alcuni Sadducei, i quali negano che vi sia la resurrezione, s'accostarono a lui e lo interrogarono	27 And there came to him some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is any resurrection, and they asked him,
28 così: «Maestro, Mosè ha lasciato scritto: Se un uomo, avendo moglie, muore senza lasciare figli, suo fratello ne sposi la vedova e susciti prole al fratello .	28 Saying: Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he leave no children, that his brother should take her to wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 Ora c'erano sette fratelli; il primo prese moglie e morì senza figliuoli.	29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 Il secondo ne sposò la vedova ed egli pure morì senza figliuoli.	30 And the next took her to wife, and he also died childless.
31 Il terzo la sposò e lo stesso fecero tutt'e sette, che morirono senza lasciar figliuoli.	31 And the third took her. And in like manner all the seven, and they left no children, and died.
32 Ultima di tutti, morì anche la donna.	32 Last of all the woman died also.
33 Di chi dunque, nella resurrezione, sarà moglie, mentre lo è stata di tutt'e sette?».	33 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife of them shall she be? For all the seven had her to wife.
34 Gesù rispose loro: «I figli di questo mondo si sposano e si maritano;	34 And Jesus said to them: The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 ma coloro che saranno ritenuti degni del mondo futuro e della resurrezione dei morti, non si ammoglieranno e non si mariteranno;	35 But they that shall be accounted worthy of that world, and of the resurrection from the dead, shall neither be married, nor take wives.
36 perchè non potranno più morire; sono come gli angeli e son figliuoli di Dio, essendo figliuoli della resurrezione.	36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels, and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37 Che poi i morti abbiano a risorgere lo dichiarò anche Mosè nel passo del Roveto , quando chiama il Signore il Dio d'Abramo, il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe.	37 Now that the dead rise again, Moses also shewed, at the bush, when he called the Lord, The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;
38 Ora Egli non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi; poichè, per lui, tutti son vivi».	38 For he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live to him.
39 Alcuni degli Scribi soggiunsero: «Maestro, hai detto bene».	39 And some of the scribes answering, said to him: Master, thou hast said well.
40 E non osarono più fargli domanda.	40 And after that they durst not ask him any more questions.
41 Egli domandò loro: «Come mai si dice che il Cristo sia figlio di David?	41 But he said to them: How say they that Christ is the son of David?
42 Mentre David stesso nel libro dei Salmi dice: Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: - Siedi alla mia destra,	42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms: The Lord said to my Lord, sit thou on my right hand,
43 finchè io abbia posto i tuoi nemici come sgabelli ai tuoi piedi -?	43 Till I make thy enemies thy footstool.
44 Dunque David lo chiama Signore; come mai allora può essere suo figliuolo?».	44 David then calleth him Lord: and how is he his son?
45 E mentre tutto il popolo lo stava ascoltando, egli disse a' suoi discepoli:	45 And in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples:
46 «Guardatevi dagli Scribi, i quali passeggiano volentieri in lunghe vesti, e amano le riverenze nelle piazze e i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e i primi posti nei conviti;	46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplace, and the first chairs in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts:
47 essi che divorano le case delle vedove e pregano a lungo per farsi vedere. A costoro toccherà una condanna più rigorosa».	47 Who devour the houses of widows, feigning long prayer. These shall receive greater damnation.
