Ezechiele 31

1 - E avvenne nell'anno undecimo, nel terzo mese, il primo del mese, che il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:	1 And it happened that, in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 «Figlio dell'uomo, dirai a Faraone, re di Egitto e al suo popolo: -	2 “Son of man, speak to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his people: To whom can you be compared in your greatness?
3 Ecco Assur era pari a un cedro sul Libano, bello di rami e folto di fronde e altissimo di fusto, e sublime dai densi rami, ergeva la sua cima.	3 Behold, Assur is like the cedar of Lebanon, with fair branches, and full of leaves, and of high stature, and his summit has been elevated above the thick branches.
4 Le acque l'avevano nutrito, il sottosuolo l'aveva fatto crescere, vene fluenti emanavano intorno alle sue radici e i suoi rivi inviava a tutte le piante della contrada.	4 The waters have nourished him. The abyss has exalted him. Its rivers have flowed around his roots, and it has sent forth its streams to all the trees of the regions.
5 Così il suo fusto si era alzato al di sopra di tutti gli alberi della regione; i suoi polloni si erano moltiplicati e i suoi rami dilatati per la gran copia d'acque.	5 Because of this, his height was exalted above all the trees of the regions, and his groves were multiplied, and his own branches were elevated, because of the many waters.
6 All'ombra che aveva stesa, tra le fronde, tutti i volatili del cielo avevano fatto il nido, e tutte le bestie selvagge sotto i suoi rami aveano procreato e all'ombra sua, di genti d'ogni sorta, abitava una gran folla.	6 And when he had extended his shadow, all the birds of the air made their nests in his branches, and all the beasts of the forest conceived their young under his foliage, and an assembly of the many peoples lived under his shadow.
7 Era bellissimo nella sua grandezza e nell'ampiezza dei suoi rami, perchè le sue radici erano attigue alle acque.	7 And he was most beautiful in his greatness and in the expansion of his groves. For his root was near many waters.
8 Cedri che lo superassero non ne furono nel paradiso di Dio, e gli abeti non raggiunsero la sua vetta, platani non se ne trovarono da eguagliare le sue fronde, nessun albero del paradiso di Dio potè gareggiare con lui e colla sua bellezza.	8 The cedars in the Paradise of God were not higher than he was. The spruce trees were not equal to his summit, and the plane trees were not equal to his fullness. No tree in the Paradise of God was similar to him or to his beauty.
9 Avendolo io dunque fatto così bello e di molti e fitti rami, s'ingelosirono di lui tutti gli alberi deliziosi che erano nel paradiso di Dio -».	9 For I made him beautiful, and dense with many branches. And all the trees of delight, which were in the Paradise of God, were jealous of him.
10 Per questo così dice il Signore Dio: «Perchè si è eretto nella sua elevatezza e portò alta la sua verde e densa cima e il suo cuore s'innalzò per la sublimità,	10 Because of this, thus says the Lord God: Since he was sublime in height, and he made his summit green and dense, and his heart was exalted because of his height,
11 io l'ho dato in potere del più forte tra i popoli che di lui facesse quello che volesse; come meritava la sua empietà, l'ho rigettato.	11 I have delivered him into the hands of the most powerful one among the Gentiles, so that he will deal with him. I have cast him out, in accord with his impiety.
12 E lo recideranno gli stranieri, i più feroci tra tutti i popoli, e lo getteranno sopra i monti, e in tutte le valli cascheranno i suoi rami e i suoi polloni andranno a sfracellarsi per tutti i dirupi della terra; e tutti i popoli della terra si scosteranno dalla sua ombra e lo lasceranno in abbandono.	12 And foreigners, and the most cruel among the nations, will cut him down. And they will cast him on the mountains. And his branches will fall in every steep valley, and his grove will be broken apart on every cliff of the earth. And all the peoples of the earth will withdraw from his shadow, and abandon him.
13 Sopra i suoi rottami andranno a posarsi tutti i volatili del cielo, e nei suoi rami avran ritrovo tutte le bestie della regione.	13 All the birds of the air lived upon his ruins, and all the beasts of the countryside were among his branches.
14 Affinchè così non si eriga nella propria altezza nessun albero cresciuto presso le acque e dai densi e folti rami non levi la sua cima e non si drizzi in alto nessuna pianta irrigata dalle acque; perchè tutti sono destinati alla morte, per andar sotto terra in mezzo agli altri uomini, tra coloro che scendono nella fossa».	14 For this reason, none of the trees among the waters will exalt themselves because of their height, nor will they place their summits above the thick branches and foliage, nor will any of those that are irrigated stand out because of their height. For they have all been delivered unto death, to the lowest part of the earth, into the midst of the sons of men, those who descend into the pit.
15 Così dice il Signore Dio: «Nel giorno che scese sotto terra, ho sparso il lutto, l'ho ricoperto nell'abisso, trattenni i suoi fiumi e arrestai le grandi acque; il Libano ne rimase contristato, e si scossero tutti gli alberi della campagna.	15 Thus says the Lord God: In the day when he descended into hell, I led in grieving. I covered him with the abyss. And I held back its rivers, and I restrained the many waters. Lebanon was saddened over him, and all the trees of the field were struck together.
16 Dal rimbombo della sua caduta ho fatto tremare le nazioni, quando io l'ho tratto negli Inferi con quei che scendevano nella fossa. E si consolarono nel mondo inferiore tutti gli alberi dell'Eden, i più insigni e i più preclari del Libano, tutti quelli che erano innaffiati dalle acque.	16 I shook the Gentiles with the sound of his ruin, when I led him down to hell, with those who were descending into the pit. And all the trees of delights, the finest and best in Lebanon, all that were irrigated with waters, were consoled in the deepest parts of the earth.
17 Perchè saranno seco lui tra i discesi ancor essi agli Inferi presso coloro che perirono di spada, e di ciascuno il braccio poserà sotto l'ombra di lui in mezzo alle nazioni.	17 For they, too, will descend with him into hell, to those who have been slain by the sword. And the arm of each one will reside under his shadow, in the midst of the nations.
18 Con chi hai voluto pareggiarti, o insigne ed eminente tra le piante dell'Eden? Ecco, fosti precipitato insieme cogli alberi dell'Eden nel mondo inferiore. Dormirai in mezzo agl'incirconcisi, con quei che morirono trafitti dalla spada. Faraone è questi, con tutta la sua gente», dice il Signore Dio.	18 To whom can you be compared, O famous and sublime one, among the trees of pleasure? Behold, you have been brought down, with the trees of pleasure, to the lowest part of the earth. You will sleep in the midst of the uncircumcised, with those who have been slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh, and all his multitude, says the Lord God.”
