| 1 - Vale più il buon nome che le grandi ricchezze; e la buona grazia è al disopra dell'oro e dell'argento. | 1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold. |
| 2 Il ricco e il povero si sono incontrati; li ha fatti tutti e due il Signore. | 2 The rich and the poor meet together; the LORD is the maker of them all. |
| 3 L'accorto vide il male e si ritrasse al riparo; il semplice passò oltre e pagò il fio. | 3 A prudent man sees danger and hides himself; but the simple go on, and suffer for it. |
| 4 Premio dell'umiltà è il timor di Dio, la ricchezza, la gloria e la vita. | 4 The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life. |
| 5 Armi e spade sono sulla via del perverso; chi vuol salvaguardare l'anima sua ne sta lontano. | 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; he who guards himself will keep far from them. |
| 6 Dice il proverbio: «Il giovinetto secondo la via che ha presa, anche quando sarà invecchiato non se ne scosterà». | 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. |
| 7 Il ricco sui poveri signoreggia, e chi toglie a prestito è schiavo di chi presta. | 7 The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. |
| 8 Chi semina il male, miete malannie la verga dell'ira sua si consumerà. | 8 He who sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail. |
| 9 Chi è inchinevole a compassione sarà benedetto; perchè ha dato il suo pane al povero. Acquisterà trionfo ed onore chi prodiga doni, ma fa violenza all'animo di chi li riceve. | 9 He who has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. |
| 10 Scaccia lo schernitore e se ne uscirà con lui la contesa, e cesseranno le liti e le ingiurie. | 10 Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease. |
| 11 Chi ama il candore del cuore, per la grazia delle sue labbra avrà amico il re. | 11 He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. |
| 12 Gli occhi di Dio custodiscono la scienza, e sovvertono le parole del perfido. | 12 The eyes of the LORD keep watch over knowledge, but he overthrows the words of the faithless. |
| 13 Dice il pigro: «C'è il leone fuori; sarò sbranato in mezzo alla piazza». | 13 The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!" |
| 14 Fossa profonda è la bocca della cortigiana; chi è in ira a Dio ci cascherà dentro. | 14 The mouth of a loose woman is a deep pit; he with whom the LORD is angry will fall into it. |
| 15 La stoltezza è legata al cuore del fanciullo e la verga della disciplina la scoterà di dosso. | 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him. |
| 16 Chi opprime il povero per aumentare le proprie ricchezzele cederà poi a uno più ricco a suo scapito. | 16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to want. |
| 17 Porgi il tuo orecchio ed ascolta le parole dei sapienti, poni mente alla mia scienza; | 17 Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge; |
| 18 sarà bello per te, se la conserverai nel tuo cuore, e rifluirà copiosa sulle labbra. | 18 for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. |
| 19 Acciò sia in Dio la tua speranza, per questo ho voluto ancora oggi spiegartela. | 19 That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made them known to you today, even to you. |

| 22 Non usar violenza al povero perchè è povero e non opprimere il misero alla porta; | 22 Do not rob the poor, because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; |
| 23 perchè il Signore difenderà la sua causa, e affliggerà coloro che l'hanno afflitto. | 23 for the LORD will plead their cause and despoil of life those who despoil them. |
| 24 Non farti amico dell'uomo iracondo, e con persona furiosa non andare; | 24 Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, |
| 25 affinchè non impari le sue maniere, e non trovi inciampo all'anima tua. | 25 lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare. |
| 26 Non essere tra quelli che stringono la mano e che si offrono mallevadori pei debiti. | 26 Be not one of those who give pledges, who become surety for debts. |
| 27 Che se non hai onde restituireperchè farti portar via la coperta del giaciglio? | 27 If you have nothing with which to pay, why should your bed be taken from under you? |
| 28 Non oltrepassare i termini antichi, che posero i padri tuoi. | 28 Remove not the ancient landmark which your fathers have set. |
| 29 Hai tu visto un uomo lesto nelle sue faccende? starà nel cospetto dei re e non sarà per la gente ignobile. | 29 Do you see a man skillful in his work? he will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. |
