Proverbi 22

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Vale più il buon nome che le grandi ricchezze; e la buona grazia è al disopra dell'oro e dell'argento.	1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.
2 Il ricco e il povero si sono incontrati; li ha fatti tutti e due il Signore.	2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.
3 L'accorto vide il male e si ritrasse al riparo; il semplice passò oltre e pagò il fio.	3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
4 Premio dell'umiltà è il timor di Dio, la ricchezza, la gloria e la vita.	4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.
5 Armi e spade sono sulla via del perverso; chi vuol salvaguardare l'anima sua ne sta lontano.	5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.
6 Dice il proverbio: «Il giovinetto secondo la via che ha presa, anche quando sarà invecchiato non se ne scosterà».	6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.
7 Il ricco sui poveri signoreggia, e chi toglie a prestito è schiavo di chi presta.	7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.
8 Chi semina il male, miete malannie la verga dell'ira sua si consumerà.	8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.
9 Chi è inchinevole a compassione sarà benedetto; perchè ha dato il suo pane al povero. Acquisterà trionfo ed onore chi prodiga doni, ma fa violenza all'animo di chi li riceve.	9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.
10 Scaccia lo schernitore e se ne uscirà con lui la contesa, e cesseranno le liti e le ingiurie.	10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.
11 Chi ama il candore del cuore, per la grazia delle sue labbra avrà amico il re.	11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.
12 Gli occhi di Dio custodiscono la scienza, e sovvertono le parole del perfido.	12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.
13 Dice il pigro: «C'è il leone fuori; sarò sbranato in mezzo alla piazza».	13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'
14 Fossa profonda è la bocca della cortigiana; chi è in ira a Dio ci cascherà dentro.	14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.
15 La stoltezza è legata al cuore del fanciullo e la verga della disciplina la scoterà di dosso.	15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.
16 Chi opprime il povero per aumentare le proprie ricchezzele cederà poi a uno più ricco a suo scapito.	16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.
17 Porgi il tuo orecchio ed ascolta le parole dei sapienti, poni mente alla mia scienza;	17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,
18 sarà bello per te, se la conserverai nel tuo cuore, e rifluirà copiosa sulle labbra.	18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.
19 Acciò sia in Dio la tua speranza, per questo ho voluto ancora oggi spiegartela.	19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.
20 Ecco io te l'ho descritta ben a varie riprese, con riflessioni e con scienza,	20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,
21 per mostrarti la certezza e le parole di verità, e per rispondere con questo, a quelli che ti mandarono.	21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?
22 Non usar violenza al povero perchè è povero e non opprimere il misero alla porta;	22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,
23 perchè il Signore difenderà la sua causa, e affliggerà coloro che l'hanno afflitto.	23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.
24 Non farti amico dell'uomo iracondo, e con persona furiosa non andare;	24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,
25 affinchè non impari le sue maniere, e non trovi inciampo all'anima tua.	25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.
26 Non essere tra quelli che stringono la mano e che si offrono mallevadori pei debiti.	26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:
27 Che se non hai onde restituireperchè farti portar via la coperta del giaciglio?	27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.
28 Non oltrepassare i termini antichi, che posero i padri tuoi.	28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.
29 Hai tu visto un uomo lesto nelle sue faccende? starà nel cospetto dei re e non sarà per la gente ignobile.	29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.
