BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Tutto il popolo di Giuda allora costituì re, invece del padre Amasia, il figliuolo di lui Ozia di anni sedici,	1 Al the people then chose Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in succession to hisfather Amaziah.
2 il quale edificò Ailat e la restituì al dominio di Giuda, dopo che il re si fu addormentato coi padri suoi.	2 It was he who rebuilt Elath, recovering it for Judah, after the king had fal en asleep with his ancestors.
3 Ozia aveva sedici anni, quando cominciò a regnare e ne regnò cinquantadue in Gerusalemme. Ebbe per madre, Jechelia di Gerusalemme.	3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for fifty-two years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4 Si comportò bene al cospetto del Signore, secondo tutto ciò che fece Amasia suo padre.	4 He did what is pleasing to Yahweh, just as his father Amaziah had done;
5 Si diede a cercare Iddio durante la vita di Zaccaria, uomo che intendeva e vedeva Dio, e finchè cercò il Signore, questi lo diresse in tutte le cose.	5 he consulted God throughout the lifetime of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. And aslong as he consulted Yahweh, God gave him success.
6 Da ultimo uscì a combattere contro i Filistei e demolì le mura di Get, di Jabnia e di Azoto e fabbricò castelli in Azoto e tra i Filistei.	6 He went on campaign against the Philistines, demolished the wal s of Gath, the wal s of Jabneh andthe wal s of Ashdod, and built towns in the area of Ashdod and elsewhere in Philistine territory.
7 Dio lo aiutò contro i Filistei, contro gli Arabi abitanti di Gurbaal e contro gli Ammoniti.	7 God helped him against the Philistines, the Arabs living at Gur-Baal and the Meunites.
8 Gli Ammoniti offrivano doni a Ozia e la fama di lui giunse fino ai confini d'Egitto, a cagione delle sue frequenti vittorie.	8 The Meunites paid tribute to Uzziah and his fame spread as far as the frontier of Egypt, since he keptgrowing stronger and stronger.
9 Ozia edificò torri in Gerusalemme sulla porta dell'angolo, sulla porta della valle ed altre sullo stesso fianco delle mure e le fortificò.	9 Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem, at the Corner Gate, at the Val ey Gate and at the Angle, and fortifiedthem.
10 Costruì anche torri nel deserto e scavò cisterne in gran numero, avendo egli molte pecore sia nella pianura che nella vastità del deserto. Ebbe anche delle vigne e dei vignaiuoli tra i monti e al Carmelo; poichè egli era uomo dato all'agricoltura.	10 He built towers in the desert too, and dug many storage-wel s, for he had large herds in the lowlandsand on the tableland, and farmers and vine dressers in the hil s and fertile lands: for he loved the land.
11 L'esercito de' suoi combattenti, che andavano alla guerra, era comandato dallo scriba Jeiel, da Maasia dottore, e da Anania, uno dei capitani del re.	11 Uzziah had a trained army ready to go on campaign, organised in companies manned as detailed bythe scribe Jeiel and the staff-officer Maaseiah, and commanded by Hananiah one of the king's generals.
12 In tutto, il numero dei principi delle famiglie degli uomini valorosi era di duemilaseicento;	12 The heads of families of the military champions numbered in al two thousand six hundred.
13 essi comandavano tutto l'esercito di trecentosettemilacinquecento uomini atti alla guerra e a combattere gli avversari del re.	13 Under them was an army of three hundred and seven thousand five hundred men ready for war, apowerful force to support the king against the enemy.
14 Ozia preparò a costoro, cioè per tutto l'esercito, scudi, aste, cimieri, corazze, archi e fionde per scagliare sassi	14 Uzziah provided shields, spears, helmets, armour, bows and sling-stones for the entire army.
15 e fabbricò in Gerusalemme diversi tipi di macchine, che collocò sulle torri e agli angoli delle mura per lanciare frecce e grosse pietre; e il suo nome divenne famoso nelle regioni lontane, perchè Iddio lo aiutava e l'aveva reso forte.	15 He also erected expertly contrived devices for the towers and angles of Jerusalem from which toshoot arrows and drop large stones. His fame spread far and wide, for he was miraculously helped to becomestrong.
16 Ma divenuto potente, il cuore di lui si insuperbì a sua ruina, e abbandonato il Signore Dio suo, entrò nel tempio del Signore, e volle bruciare l'incenso sopra l'altare dei profumi.	16 But once he was strong, his arrogance was such that it led to his downfall; he was unfaithful toYahweh his God by entering the Temple of Yahweh to burn incense on the altar of incense.
17 Ma immediatamente il sommo sacerdote Azaria entrò dopo di lui con ottanta sacerdoti del Signore, uomini coraggiosi,	17 Azariah the priest with eight brave priests of Yahweh followed him in;
18 i quali si opposero al re e gli dissero: «Non spetta a te, Ozia, bruciare l'incenso al Signore; questo è l'ufficio dei sacerdoti figli di Aronne, consacrati per un tal ministero. Esci dal santuario; non disprezzare, poichè questo non torna certo a tua gloria dinanzi al Signore Iddio».	18 confronting King Uzziah, they said to him, 'Uzziah, you are not al owed to burn incense to Yahweh;only the Aaronite priests consecrated for the purpose may burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have beenunfaithful and wil have no honour from Yahweh God.'
19 Ozia, che teneva in mano il turibolo per bruciare l'incenso, con gran collera si fece a minacciare i sacerdoti; ma tosto gli si sviluppò la lebbra sulla sua fronte, là dinanzi ai sacerdoti, nella casa del Signore, presso all'altare dei profumi.	19 Uzziah, censer in hand to burn incense, flew into a rage. But while he was raging at the priests, avirulent skin-disease broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests, in the Temple of Yahweh, there bythe altar of incense.
20 Allorquando il pontefice Azaria e tutti gli altri sacerdoti lo guardarono, videro sulla fronte di lui la lebbra e lo scacciarono in fretta. Ma anch'egli, atterrito, si affrettò a uscire perchè aveva subito sentito il castigo del Signore.	20 When Azariah the chief priest and al the other priests turned towards him, there was skin-disease onhis forehead and they hurried him outside, and he himself was equal y anxious to get out, because Yahweh hadstruck him.
21 Ozia fu dunque lebbroso fino alla morte e abitò in una casa appartata, coperto dalla lebbra per la quale era stato cacciato dalla casa del Signore. Joatam poi suo figliuolo, tenne il governo del paese.	21 King Uzziah was afflicted with skin-disease til his dying day. Because of this, he lived confined to hisroom and was excluded from the Temple of Yahweh, while Jotham his son, who was master of the palace,governed the people of the country.
22 Il rimanente delle azioni di Ozia, le prime e le ultime, furono scritte da Isaia figlio di Amos profeta.	22 The rest of the history of Uzziah, from first to last, has been written by the prophet Isaiah son ofAmoz.
23 Ozia s'addormentò co' suoi padri, e fu sepolto nel campo dei sepolcri reali, perchè era lebbroso. Gli successe nel regno il figlio Joatam.	23 Then Uzziah fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the field beside the burialground of the kings since, it was reasoned, he was afflicted with virulent skin-disease. His son Jotham thensucceeded him.
