BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 I Filistei avevano concentrato tutte le schiere ad Afek, mentre gli Israeliti erano accampati presso la sorgente che si trova in Izreèl.	1 The Philistines mustered al their forces at Aphek while the Israelites pitched camp near the spring inJezreel.
2 I prìncipi dei Filistei marciavano con le loro centinaia e le loro migliaia. Davide e i suoi uomini marciavano nella retroguardia con Achis.	2 The Philistine commanders marched past with their hundreds and their thousands, and David and hismen brought up the rear with Achish.
3 I capi dei Filistei domandarono: «Che cosa fanno questi Ebrei?». Achis rispose ai capi dei Filistei: «Non è forse costui Davide, servo di Saul, re d’Israele? È stato con me un anno o due e non ho trovato in lui nulla da ridire dal giorno che è capitato qui fino ad oggi».	3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.'
4 I capi dei Filistei si irritarono tutti contro di lui e gli intimarono: «Rimanda quest’uomo: torni al luogo che gli hai assegnato. Non venga con noi in guerra, perché non diventi nostro avversario durante il combattimento. Come riacquisterà costui il favore del suo signore, se non con le teste di questi uomini?	4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here?
5 Non è costui quel Davide a cui cantavano tra le danze dicendo: “Ha ucciso Saul i suoi mille e Davide i suoi diecimila”?».	5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'?
6 Achis chiamò Davide e gli disse: «Per la vita del Signore, tu sei retto e io vedrei bene che tu vada e venga con le mie schiere, perché non ho trovato in te alcun male, da quando sei arrivato fino ad oggi. Ma non sei gradito agli occhi dei prìncipi.	6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs.
7 Quindi torna e va’ in pace, così non farai cosa sgradita agli occhi dei prìncipi dei Filistei».	7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.'
8 Rispose Davide ad Achis: «Che cosa ho fatto e che cosa hai trovato nel tuo servo, da quando sono stato alla tua presenza fino ad oggi, perché io non possa venire a combattere contro i nemici del re, mio signore?».	8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?'
9 Rispose Achis a Davide: «So bene che tu mi sei prezioso come un messaggero di Dio; ma i capi dei Filistei mi hanno detto: “Non deve venire con noi a combattere”.	9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us."
10 Àlzati dunque domani mattina con i servi del tuo signore che sono venuti con te. Alzatevi presto e allo spuntar del giorno partite».	10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.'
11 Il mattino dopo Davide e i suoi uomini si alzarono presto e partirono, tornando nel territorio dei Filistei. I Filistei salirono a Izreèl.	11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel.
