1 Saul comunicò a Giònata, suo figlio, e ai suoi ministri di voler uccidere Davide. Ma Giònata, figlio di Saul, nutriva grande affetto per Davide.	1 Saul let his son Jonathan and al his servants know of his intention to kil David. But Jonathan, Saul'sson, held David in great affection;
2 Giònata informò Davide dicendo: «Saul, mio padre, cerca di ucciderti. Sta’ in guardia domani, sta’ al riparo e nasconditi.	2 and Jonathan warned David, 'My father Saul is looking for a way to kil you, so be on your guardtomorrow morning; go into hiding, stay out of sight.
3 Io uscirò e starò al fianco di mio padre nella campagna dove sarai tu e parlerò in tuo favore a mio padre. Ciò che vedrò te lo farò sapere».	3 I shal go out and keep my father company in the countryside where you wil be, and shal talk to myfather about you; I shal see what the situation is and then tel you.'
4 Giònata parlò dunque a Saul, suo padre, in favore di Davide e gli disse: «Non pecchi il re contro il suo servo, contro Davide, che non ha peccato contro di te, che anzi ha fatto cose belle per te.	4 Jonathan spoke highly of David to Saul his father and said, 'The king should not harm his servantDavid; far from harming you, what he has done has been greatly to your advantage.
5 Egli ha esposto la vita, quando abbatté il Filisteo, e il Signore ha concesso una grande salvezza a tutto Israele. Hai visto e hai gioito. Dunque, perché pecchi contro un innocente, uccidendo Davide senza motivo?».	5 He took his life in his hands, he killed the Philistine, and Yahweh brought about a great victory for al Israel. You saw for yourself. How pleased you were! Why then sin against innocent blood by kil ing David for noreason?'
6 Saul ascoltò la voce di Giònata e giurò: «Per la vita del Signore, non morirà!».	6 Saul was impressed by Jonathan's words. Saul swore, 'As Yahweh lives, I wil not kill him.'
7 Giònata chiamò Davide e gli riferì questo colloquio. Poi Giònata introdusse presso Saul Davide, che rimase alla sua presenza come prima.	7 Jonathan called David and told him al this. Jonathan then brought him to Saul, and David remained inattendance as before.
8 Ci fu di nuovo la guerra e Davide uscì a combattere i Filistei e inflisse loro una grande sconfitta, così che si dettero alla fuga davanti a lui.	8 War broke out again and David sallied out to fight the Philistines; he inflicted a great defeat on themand they fled before him.
9 Ma un cattivo spirito del Signore fu su Saul. Egli stava in casa e teneva in mano la lancia, mentre Davide suonava la cetra.	9 An evil spirit from Yahweh came over Saul while he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand;David was playing the harp.
10 Saul tentò di inchiodare Davide con la lancia nel muro. Ma Davide si scansò da Saul, che infisse la lancia nel muro. Davide fuggì e quella notte si salvò.	10 Saul tried to pin David to the wal with his spear, but he avoided Saul's thrust and the spear stuck inthe wal . David fled and made good his escape. That same night
11 Saul mandò messaggeri alla casa di Davide per sorvegliarlo e ucciderlo il mattino dopo. Mical, sua moglie, avvertì Davide dicendo: «Se non metti in salvo la tua vita questa notte, domani sarai ucciso».	11 Saul sent agents to watch David's house, intending to kil him in the morning. But Michal, David'swife, warned him, 'If you do not escape tonight, you wil be a dead man tomorrow!'
12 Mical calò Davide dalla finestra e quegli partì di corsa e si salvò.	12 Michal then let David down through the window, and he made off, took to flight and so escaped.
13 Mical prese allora i terafìm e li pose sul letto. Mise dalla parte del capo un tessuto di pelo di capra e li coprì con una coltre.	13 Michal then took a domestic image, laid it on the bed, put a tress of goats' hair at the head of the bedand put a cover over it.
14 Saul mandò dunque messaggeri a prendere Davide, ma ella disse: «È malato».	14 When Saul sent the agents to arrest David, she said, 'He is il .'
15 Saul rimandò i messaggeri a vedere Davide dicendo: «Portatelo qui da me nel suo letto, perché lo faccia morire».	15 Saul sent the agents back to see David, with the words, 'Bring him to me on his bed, for me to kilhim!'
16 Tornarono i messaggeri, ed ecco che sul letto c’erano i terafìm e il tessuto di pelo di capra dalla parte del capo.	16 So in the agents went, and there in bed was the image, with the tress of goats' hair on its head!
17 Saul disse a Mical: «Perché mi hai ingannato a questo modo e hai permesso al mio nemico di salvarsi?». Rispose Mical a Saul: «Egli mi ha detto: “Lasciami andare, altrimenti ti uccido”».	17 Saul then said to Michal, 'Why have you deceived me like this and let my enemy go, and so make hisescape?' Michal replied to Saul, 'He said, "Let me go, or I shal kill you!" '
18 Davide dunque fuggì e si salvò. Andò da Samuele a Rama e gli narrò quanto gli aveva fatto Saul; poi Davide e Samuele andarono ad abitare a Naiot.	18 David, having fled and made his escape, went to Samuel at Ramah and told him exactly how Saulhad treated him; he and Samuel went and lived in the huts.
19 La cosa fu riferita a Saul: «Ecco, Davide sta a Naiot di Rama».	19 Word was brought to Saul, 'David is in the huts at Ramah.'
20 Allora Saul spedì messaggeri a catturare Davide, ma quando videro profetare la comunità dei profeti, mentre Samuele stava in piedi alla loro testa, lo spirito di Dio fu sui messaggeri di Saul e anch’essi fecero i profeti.	20 Saul accordingly sent agents to capture David; when they saw the community of prophetsprophesying, and Samuel there as their leader, the spirit of God came over Saul's agents, and they too fel intofrenzy.
21 Annunciarono a Saul questa cosa ed egli spedì altri messaggeri, ma anch’essi fecero i profeti. Saul mandò di nuovo messaggeri per la terza volta, ma anch’essi fecero i profeti.	21 When Saul was told of this, he sent other agents, and they too fel into frenzy; Saul then sent a thirdgroup of agents, and they fel into frenzy too.
22 Allora venne egli stesso a Rama e si portò alla grande cisterna che si trova a Secu e domandò: «Dove sono Samuele e Davide?». Gli risposero: «Eccoli: sono a Naiot di Rama».	22 He then went to Ramah himself and, arriving at the large storage-wel at Seku, asked, 'Where areSamuel and David?' And someone said, 'Why, they are in the huts at Ramah!'
23 Egli si incamminò verso Naiot di Rama, ma fu anche su di lui lo spirito di Dio e andava avanti facendo il profeta finché giunse a Naiot di Rama.	23 Making his way from there to the huts at Ramah, the spirit of God came over him too, and he wentalong in a frenzy until he arrived at the huts at Ramah.
24 Anch’egli si tolse gli abiti e continuò a fare il profeta davanti a Samuele; poi crollò e restò nudo tutto quel giorno e tutta la notte. Da qui è venuto il detto: «Anche Saul è tra i profeti?».	24 He too stripped off his clothes and he too fell into a frenzy in Samuel's presence, then col apsednaked on the ground for the rest of that day and al night. Hence the saying: Is Saul one of the prophets too?
