BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il quinto angelo suonò la tromba: vidi un astro caduto dal cielo sulla terra. Gli fu data la chiave del pozzo dell’Abisso;	1 Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fal en from heaven onto the earth, andthe angel was given the key to the shaft leading down to the Abyss.
2 egli aprì il pozzo dell’Abisso e dal pozzo salì un fumo come il fumo di una grande fornace, e oscurò il sole e l’atmosfera.	2 When he unlocked the shaft of the Abyss, smoke rose out of the Abyss like the smoke from a hugefurnace so that the sun and the sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss,
3 Dal fumo uscirono cavallette, che si sparsero sulla terra, e fu dato loro un potere pari a quello degli scorpioni della terra.	3 and out of the smoke dropped locusts onto the earth: they were given the powers that scorpions haveon the earth:
4 E fu detto loro di non danneggiare l’erba della terra, né gli arbusti né gli alberi, ma soltanto gli uomini che non avessero il sigillo di Dio sulla fronte.	4 they were forbidden to harm any fields or crops or trees and told to attack only those people who werewithout God's seal on their foreheads.
5 E fu concesso loro non di ucciderli, ma di tormentarli per cinque mesi, e il loro tormento è come il tormento provocato dallo scorpione quando punge un uomo.	5 They were not to kil them, but to give them anguish for five months, and the anguish was to be theanguish of a scorpion's sting.
6 In quei giorni gli uomini cercheranno la morte, ma non la troveranno; brameranno morire, ma la morte fuggirà da loro.	6 When this happens, people wil long for death and not find it anywhere; they wil want to die and deathwil evade them.
7 Queste cavallette avevano l’aspetto di cavalli pronti per la guerra. Sulla testa avevano corone che sembravano d’oro e il loro aspetto era come quello degli uomini.	7 These locusts looked like horses armoured for battle; they had what looked like gold crowns on theirheads, and their faces looked human,
8 Avevano capelli come capelli di donne e i loro denti erano come quelli dei leoni.	8 and their hair was like women's hair, and teeth like lion's teeth.
9 Avevano il torace simile a corazze di ferro e il rombo delle loro ali era come rombo di carri trainati da molti cavalli lanciati all’assalto.	9 They had body-armour like iron breastplates, and the noise of their wings sounded like the racket ofchariots with many horses charging.
10 Avevano code come gli scorpioni e aculei. Nelle loro code c’era il potere di far soffrire gli uomini per cinque mesi.	10 Their tails were like scorpions' tails, with stings, and with their tails they were able to torture people forfive months.
11 Il loro re era l’angelo dell’Abisso, che in ebraico si chiama Abaddon, in greco Sterminatore.	11 As their leader they had their emperor, the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon,and in Greek Apol yon.
12 Il primo «guai» è passato. Dopo queste cose, ecco, vengono ancora due «guai».	12 That was the first of the disasters; there are stil two more to come.
13 Il sesto angelo suonò la tromba: udii una voce dai lati dell’altare d’oro che si trova dinanzi a Dio.	13 The sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a single voice issuing from the four horns of the goldenaltar in God's presence.
14 Diceva al sesto angelo, che aveva la tromba: «Libera i quattro angeli incatenati sul grande fiume Eufrate».	14 It spoke to the sixth angel with the trumpet, and said, 'Release the four angels that are chained up atthe great river Euphrates.'
15 Furono liberati i quattro angeli, pronti per l’ora, il giorno, il mese e l’anno, al fine di sterminare un terzo dell’umanità.	15 These four angels had been ready for this hour of this day of this month of this year, and ready todestroy a third of the human race.
16 Il numero delle truppe di cavalleria era duecento milioni; ne intesi il numero.	16 I learnt how many there were in their army: twice ten thousand times ten thousand mounted men.
17 E così vidi nella visione i cavalli e i loro cavalieri: questi avevano corazze di fuoco, di giacinto, di zolfo; le teste dei cavalli erano come teste di leoni e dalla loro bocca uscivano fuoco, fumo e zolfo.	17 In my vision I saw the horses, and the riders with their breastplates of flame colour, hyacinth-blue andsulphur-yel ow; the horses had lions' heads, and fire, smoke and sulphur were coming from their mouths.
18 Da questo triplice flagello, dal fuoco, dal fumo e dallo zolfo che uscivano dalla loro bocca, fu ucciso un terzo dell’umanità.	18 It was by these three plagues, the fire, the smoke and the sulphur coming from their mouths, that theone third of the human race was killed.
19 La potenza dei cavalli infatti sta nella loro bocca e nelle loro code, perché le loro code sono simili a serpenti, hanno teste e con esse fanno del male.	19 Al the horses' power was in their mouths and their tails: their tails were like snakes, and had headswhich inflicted wounds.
20 Il resto dell’umanità, che non fu uccisa a causa di questi flagelli, non si convertì dalle opere delle sue mani; non cessò di prestare culto ai demòni e agli idoli d’oro, d’argento, di bronzo, di pietra e di legno, che non possono né vedere, né udire, né camminare;	20 But the rest of the human race, who escaped death by these plagues, refused either to abandon theirown handiwork or to stop worshipping devils, the idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood that canneither see nor hear nor move.
21 e non si convertì dagli omicidi, né dalle stregonerie, né dalla prostituzione, né dalle ruberie.	21 Nor did they give up their murdering, or witchcraft, or fornication or stealing.
