1 Allora il regno dei cieli sarà simile a dieci vergini che presero le loro lampade e uscirono incontro allo sposo.	1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.
2 Cinque di esse erano stolte e cinque sagge;	2 But five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
3 le stolte presero le loro lampade, ma non presero con sé l’olio;	3 For the five foolish, having brought their lamps, did not take oil with them.
4 le sagge invece, insieme alle loro lampade, presero anche l’olio in piccoli vasi.	4 Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.
5 Poiché lo sposo tardava, si assopirono tutte e si addormentarono.	5 Since the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, and they were sleeping.
6 A mezzanotte si alzò un grido: “Ecco lo sposo! Andategli incontro!”.	6 But in the middle of the night, a cry went out: ‘Behold, the groom is arriving. Go out to meet him.’
7 Allora tutte quelle vergini si destarono e prepararono le loro lampade.	7 Then all those virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps.
8 Le stolte dissero alle sagge: “Dateci un po’ del vostro olio, perché le nostre lampade si spengono”.	8 But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give to us from your oil, for our lamps are being extinguished.’
9 Le sagge risposero: “No, perché non venga a mancare a noi e a voi; andate piuttosto dai venditori e compratevene”.	9 The prudent responded by saying, ‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you, it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’
10 Ora, mentre quelle andavano a comprare l’olio, arrivò lo sposo e le vergini che erano pronte entrarono con lui alle nozze, e la porta fu chiusa.	10 But while they were going to buy it, the groom arrived. And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding, and the door was closed.
11 Più tardi arrivarono anche le altre vergini e incominciarono a dire: “Signore, signore, aprici!”.	11 Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’
12 Ma egli rispose: “In verità io vi dico: non vi conosco”.	12 But he responded by saying, ‘Amen I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 Vegliate dunque, perché non sapete né il giorno né l’ora.	13 And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour.
14 Avverrà infatti come a un uomo che, partendo per un viaggio, chiamò i suoi servi e consegnò loro i suoi beni.	14 For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.
15 A uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due, a un altro uno, secondo le capacità di ciascuno; poi partì. Subito	15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability. And promptly, he set out.
16 colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti andò a impiegarli, e ne guadagnò altri cinque.	16 Then he who had received five talents went out, and he made use of these, and he gained another five.
17 Così anche quello che ne aveva ricevuti due, ne guadagnò altri due.	17 And similarly, he who had received two gained another two.
18 Colui invece che aveva ricevuto un solo talento, andò a fare una buca nel terreno e vi nascose il denaro del suo padrone.	18 But he who had received one, going out, dug into the earth, and he hid the money of his lord.
19 Dopo molto tempo il padrone di quei servi tornò e volle regolare i conti con loro.	19 Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.
20 Si presentò colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti e ne portò altri cinque, dicendo: “Signore, mi hai consegnato cinque talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri cinque”.	20 And when he who had received five talents approached, he brought another five talents, saying: ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me. Behold, I have increased it by another five.’
21 “Bene, servo buono e fedele – gli disse il suo padrone –, sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò potere su molto; prendi parte alla gioia del tuo padrone”.	21 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
22 Si presentò poi colui che aveva ricevuto due talenti e disse: “Signore, mi hai consegnato due talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri due”.	22 Then he who had received two talents also approached, and he said: ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me. Behold, I have gained another two.’
23 “Bene, servo buono e fedele – gli disse il suo padrone –, sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò potere su molto; prendi parte alla gioia del tuo padrone”.	23 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
24 Si presentò infine anche colui che aveva ricevuto un solo talento e disse: “Signore, so che sei un uomo duro, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso.	24 Then he who had received one talent, approaching, said: ‘Lord, I know that you are a hard man. You reap where you have not sown, and gather where you have not scattered.
25 Ho avuto paura e sono andato a nascondere il tuo talento sotto terra: ecco ciò che è tuo”.	25 And so, being afraid, I went out and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’
26 Il padrone gli rispose: “Servo malvagio e pigro, tu sapevi che mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;	26 But his lord said to him in response: ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered.
27 avresti dovuto affidare il mio denaro ai banchieri e così, ritornando, avrei ritirato il mio con l’interesse.	27 Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then, at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.
28 Toglietegli dunque il talento, e datelo a chi ha i dieci talenti.	28 And so, take the talent away from him and give it the one who has ten talents.
29 Perché a chiunque ha, verrà dato e sarà nell’abbondanza; ma a chi non ha, verrà tolto anche quello che ha.	29 For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not, even what he seems to have, shall be taken away.
30 E il servo inutile gettatelo fuori nelle tenebre; là sarà pianto e stridore di denti”.	30 And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
31 Quando il Figlio dell’uomo verrà nella sua gloria, e tutti gli angeli con lui, siederà sul trono della sua gloria.	31 But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.
32 Davanti a lui verranno radunati tutti i popoli. Egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dalle capre,	32 And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 e porrà le pecore alla sua destra e le capre alla sinistra.	33 And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.
34 Allora il re dirà a quelli che saranno alla sua destra: “Venite, benedetti del Padre mio, ricevete in eredità il regno preparato per voi fin dalla creazione del mondo,	34 Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 perché ho avuto fame e mi avete dato da mangiare, ho avuto sete e mi avete dato da bere, ero straniero e mi avete accolto,	35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
36 nudo e mi avete vestito, malato e mi avete visitato, ero in carcere e siete venuti a trovarmi”.	36 naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’
37 Allora i giusti gli risponderanno: “Signore, quando ti abbiamo visto affamato e ti abbiamo dato da mangiare, o assetato e ti abbiamo dato da bere?	37 Then the just will answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?
38 Quando mai ti abbiamo visto straniero e ti abbiamo accolto, o nudo e ti abbiamo vestito?	38 And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?
39 Quando mai ti abbiamo visto malato o in carcere e siamo venuti a visitarti?”.	39 Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?’
40 E il re risponderà loro: “In verità io vi dico: tutto quello che avete fatto a uno solo di questi miei fratelli più piccoli, l’avete fatto a me”.	40 And in response, the King shall say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.’
41 Poi dirà anche a quelli che saranno alla sinistra: “Via, lontano da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato per il diavolo e per i suoi angeli,	41 Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: ‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 perché ho avuto fame e non mi avete dato da mangiare, ho avuto sete e non mi avete dato da bere,	42 For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;
43 ero straniero e non mi avete accolto, nudo e non mi avete vestito, malato e in carcere e non mi avete visitato”.	43 I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.’
44 Anch’essi allora risponderanno: “Signore, quando ti abbiamo visto affamato o assetato o straniero o nudo o malato o in carcere, e non ti abbiamo servito?”.	44 Then they will also answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’
45 Allora egli risponderà loro: “In verità io vi dico: tutto quello che non avete fatto a uno solo di questi più piccoli, non l’avete fatto a me”.	45 Then he shall respond to them by saying: ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.’
46 E se ne andranno: questi al supplizio eterno, i giusti invece alla vita eterna».	46 And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life.”
