1 Figlio, non rifiutare il sostentamento al povero, non essere insensibile allo sguardo dei bisognosi.	1 My son, rob not the poor man of his livelihood; force not the eyes of the needy to turn away.
2 Non rattristare un affamato, non esasperare un uomo già in difficoltà.	2 A hungry man grieve not, a needy man anger not;
3 Non turbare un cuore esasperato, non negare un dono al bisognoso.	3 Do not exasperate the downtrodden; delay not to give to the needy.
4 Non respingere la supplica di un povero, non distogliere lo sguardo dall'indigente.	4 A beggar in distress do not reject; avert not your face from the poor.
5 Da chi ti chiede non distogliere lo sguardo, non offrire a nessuno l'occasione di maledirti,	5 From the needy turn not your eyes, give no man reason to curse you;
6 perché se uno ti maledice con amarezza, il suo creatore esaudirà la sua preghiera.	6 For if in the bitterness of his soul he curse you, his Creator will hear his prayer.
7 Fatti amare dalla comunità, davanti a un grande abbassa il capo. Porgi l'orecchio al povero e rispondigli al saluto con affabilità.	7 Endear yourself to the assembly; before a ruler bow your head.
8 .	8 Give a hearing to the poor man, and return his greeting with courtesy;
9 Strappa l'oppresso dal potere dell'oppressore, non esser pusillanime quando giudichi.	9 Deliver the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor; let not justice be repugnant to you.
10 Sii come un padre per gli orfani e come un marito per la loro madre e sarai come un figlio dell'Altissimo, ed egli ti amerà più di tua madre.	10 To the fatherless be as a father, and help their mother as a husband would; Thus will you be like a son to the Most High, and he will be more tender to you than a mother.
11 La sapienza esalta i suoi figli e si prende cura di quanti la cercano.	11 Wisdom instructs her children and admonishes those who seek her.
12 Chi la ama ama la vita, quanti la cercano solleciti saranno ricolmi di gioia.	12 He who loves her loves life; those who seek her out win her favor.
13 Chi la possiede erediterà la gloria, qualunque cosa intraprenda, il Signore lo benedice.	13 He who holds her fast inherits glory; wherever he dwells, the LORD bestows blessings.
14 Coloro che la venerano rendono culto al Santo, e il Signore ama coloro che la amano.	14 Those who serve her serve the Holy One; those who love her the LORD loves.
15 Chi l'ascolta giudica con equità; chi le presta attenzione vivrà tranquillo.	15 He who obeys her judges nations; he who hearkens to her dwells in her inmost chambers.
16 Chi confida in lei la otterrà in eredità; i suoi discendenti ne conserveranno il possesso.	16 If one trusts her, he will possess her; his descendants too will inherit her.
17 Dapprima lo condurrà per luoghi tortuosi, gli incuterà timore e paura, lo tormenterà con la sua disciplina, finché possa fidarsi di lui, e lo abbia provato con i suoi decreti;	17 She walks with him as a stranger, and at first she puts him to the test; Fear and dread she brings upon him and tries him with her discipline; With her precepts she puts him to the proof, until his heart is fully with her.
18 ma poi lo ricondurrà sulla retta via e gli manifesterà i propri segreti.	18 Then she comes back to bring him happiness and reveal her secrets to him.
19 Se egli batte una falsa strada, lo lascerà andare e l'abbandonerà in balìa del suo destino.	19 But if he fails her, she will abandon him and deliver him into the hands of despoilers.
20 Figlio, bada alle circostanze e guàrdati dal male così non ti vergognerai di te stesso.	20 Use your time well; guard yourself from evil, and bring upon yourself no shame.
21 C'è una vergogna che porta al peccato e c'è una vergogna che è onore e grazia.	21 There is a sense of shame laden with guilt, and a shame that merits honor and respect.
22 Non usare riguardi a tuo danno e non vergognarti a tua rovina.	22 Show no favoritism to your own discredit; let no one intimidate you to your own downfall.
23 Non astenerti dal parlare nel momento opportuno, non nascondere la tua sapienza.	23 Refrain not from speaking at the proper time, and hide not away your wisdom;
24 Difatti dalla parola si riconosce la sapienza e l'istruzione dai detti della lingua.	24 For it is through speech that wisdom becomes known, and knowledge through the tongue's rejoinder.
25 Non contraddire alla verità, ma vergògnati della tua ignoranza.	25 Never gainsay the truth, and struggle not against the rushing stream.
26 Non arrossire di confessare i tuoi peccati, non opporti alla corrente di un fiume.	26 Be not ashamed to acknowledge your guilt, but of your ignorance rather be ashamed.
27 Non sottometterti a un uomo stolto, e non essere parziale a favore di un potente.	27 Do not abase yourself before an impious man, nor refuse to do so before rulers.
28 Lotta sino alla morte per la verità e il Signore Dio combatterà per te.	28 Even to the death fight for truth, and the LORD your God will battle for you.
29 Non essere arrogante nel tuo linguaggio, fiacco e indolente invece nelle opere.	29 Be not surly in your speech, nor lazy and slack in your deeds.
30 Non essere come un leone in casa tua, sospettoso con i tuoi dipendenti.	30 Be not a lion at home, nor sly and suspicious at work.
31 La tua mano non sia tesa per prendere e chiusa invece nel restituire.	31 Let not your hand be open to receive and clenched when it is time to give.
