Siracide 16

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non desiderare una moltitudine di figli buoni a nulla, non gioire per figli empi.	1 Do not long for a brood of worthless children, and do not take pleasure in godless sons.
2 Se aumentano di numero non gioire, se sono privi del timore del Signore.	2 However many you have, take no pleasure in them, unless the fear of the Lord lives among them.
3 Non confidare su una loro vita lunga e non fondarti sul loro numero, poiché è preferibile uno a mille e morir senza figli che averne degli empi.	3 Do not count on their having long life, do not put too much faith in their number; for better have onethan a thousand, better die childless than have children who are godless.
4 La città potrà ripopolarsi per opera di un solo assennato, mentre la stirpe degli iniqui sarà distrutta.	4 One person of sense can populate a city, but a race of lawless people will be destroyed.
5 Il mio occhio ha visto molte simili cose; il mio orecchio ne ha sentite ancora più gravi.	5 My eyes have seen many such things, my ears have heard things even more impressive.
6 Nell'assemblea dei peccatori un fuoco si accende, contro un popolo ribelle è divampata l'ira.	6 Fire is kindled in a sinful society, Retribution blazes in a rebel ious nation.
7 Dio non perdonò agli antichi giganti, che si erano ribellati per la loro forza.	7 God did not pardon the giants of old who, confident in their strength, had rebel ed.
8 Non risparmiò i concittadini di Lot, che egli aveva in orrore per la loro superbia.	8 He did not spare the people with whom Lot lived; he abhorred them, rather, for their pride.
9 Non ebbe pietà di nazioni di perdizione, che si erano esaltate per i loro peccati.	9 He was pitiless to the nation of perdition -- those people who gloried in their sins-
10 Così trattò i seicentomila uomini che sono periti per l'ostinazione del loro cuore.	10 as also to the six hundred thousand men on the march, who had banded together in their obstinacy.
11 Ci fosse un solo uomo di dura cervice, sarebbe strano se restasse impunito,	11 And had there been only one man stubborn, it would have been amazing had he escaped unpunished,since mercy and wrath alike belong to the Lord who is mighty to forgive and to pour out wrath.
12 poiché misericordia e ira sono in Dio, potente quando perdona e quando riversa l'ira.	12 As great as his mercy, so is his severity; he judges each person as his deeds deserve:
13 Tanto grande la sua misericordia, quanto grande la sua severità; egli giudicherà l'uomo secondo le sue opere.	13 the sinner wil not escape with his il -gotten gains nor the patience of the devout go for nothing.
14 Non sfuggirà il peccatore con la sua rapina, ma neppure la pazienza del pio sarà delusa.	14 He takes note of every charitable action, and everyone is treated as he deserves.
15 Egli farà posto a tutta la sua generosità; ciascuno sarà trattato secondo le sue opere.	15
16 Non dire: "Mi terrò celato al Signore! Chi penserà a me lassù?	16
17 Non sarò riconosciuto fra un popolo numeroso, chi sarò io in mezzo a una creazione senza numero?".	17 Do not say, 'I shal hide from the Lord; who is going to remember me up there? I shall not be noticedamong so many people; what am I in the immensity of creation?'
18 Ecco il cielo e il cielo dei cieli, l'abisso e la terra sussultano quando egli appare.	18 For see, the sky and the heavens above the sky, the abyss and the earth shake at his visitation.
19 Anche i monti e le fondamenta della terra si scuotono di spavento quando egli li guarda.	19 The mountains and earth's foundations alike quail and tremble when he looks at them.
20 Ma nessuno riflette su queste cose; al suo modo di agire chi ci bada?	20 But to all this no one gives thought. Who keeps his movements in mind?
21 Anche la bufera che nessuno contempla, e la maggior parte delle sue opere, sono nel mistero.	21 The storm wind itself is invisible, and most of what he does goes undetected.
22 "Chi a Dio annunzierà le opere di giustizia? Ovvero chi le attende? L'alleanza infatti è lontana".	22 'Who wil report whether justice has been done? Who wil be watching? The covenant is remote!'
23 Tali cose pensa chi ha il cuore perverso; lo stolto, appunto errando, pensa sciocchezze.	23 Such are the thoughts of the person of little sense, stupid, misguided, cherishing his fol y.
24 Ascoltami, figlio, e impara la scienza; e sii attento nel tuo cuore alle mie parole.	24 Listen to me, my child, and learn knowledge, and give your whole mind to my words.
25 Manifesterò con esattezza la mia dottrina; con cura annunzierò la scienza.	25 I shal expound discipline methodically and proclaim knowledge with precision.
26 Nella creazione del Signore le sue opere sono fin dal principio, e dalla loro origine ne separò le parti.	26 When God created his works in the beginning, he assigned them their places as soon as they weremade.
27 Egli ordinò per l'eternità le sue opere, ne stabilì l'attività per le generazioni future. Non hanno fame né si stancano, eppure non interrompono il loro lavoro.	27 He determined his works for al time, from their origins to their distant generations. They know neitherhunger nor weariness, and they never desert their duties.
28 Nessuna di loro urta la sua vicina, mai disubbidiranno ad un suo comando.	28 Not one has ever got in the way of another, and they wil never disobey his word.
29 Dopo ciò il Signore riguardò sulla terra e la riempì dei suoi doni.	29 And afterwards the Lord looked at the earth, and filled it with his good things.
30 Ne ricoprì la superficie con ogni genere di viventi e ad essa faranno ritorno.	30 He covered its surface with every kind of animal, and to it they wil return.
