| 1 Ecco ciò che i figli di Israele ricevettero in eredità nel porse di Canaan e che il sacerdote Eleazaro e iosuè, figlio di Nun, con i capicasata delle tribù dei figli di Israele assegnarono loro in eredità. | 1 And these are the inheritances which the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel distributed to them. |
| 2 Essi lo divisero a sorte alle nove tribù e mezza, come Jahvè aveva comandato per mezzo di Mosè, | 2 Their inheritance was by lot, as the LORD had commanded Moses for the nine and one-half tribes. |
| 3 poiché alle due tribù e mezza Mosè aveva assegnato l’eredità al di là del Giordano e ai Leviti non aveva dato nessuna eredità in mezzo a loro. | 3 For Moses had given an inheritance to the two and one-half tribes beyond the Jordan; but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. |
| 4 Infatti i figli di Giuseppe formavano due tribù: Manasse ed Efraim, e ai Leviti non era stato concesso nessun territorio nel paese, ma solo alcune città per abitarvi e i dintorni di esse per i loro armenti e per i loro greggi. | 4 For the people of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim; and no portion was given to the Levites in the land, but only cities to dwell in, with their pasture lands for their cattle and their substance. |
| 5 I figli di Israele fecero e divisero il paese come Jahvè aveva comandato per mezzo di Mosè. | 5 The people of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses; they allotted the land. |
| 6 Allora i figli di Giuda si avvicinarono a Giosuè a Galgala e Chaleb figlio di Jefunne, il Kenizzeo, gli disse: «Tu sai bene ciò che Jahvè ha detto a Mosè, uomo di Dio, riguardo a me e a te, a Kadesh-Barne. | 6 Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. |
| 7 Io avevo quarant’anni, quando Mosè servitore di Jahvè mi mandò da Kadesh-Barne a esplorare il paese, e io gli feci la mia relazione secondo quanto avevo nel cuore. | 7 I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. |
| 8 Ora, mentre i compagni che erano venuti con me scoraggiavano il popolo, io seguii pienamente la volontà di Jahvè mio Dio. | 8 But my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the LORD my God. |
| 9 In quel giorno Mosè fece questo giuramento: “La terra dove hai messo i piedi sarà in eredità a te e ai tuoi figli per sempre poiché hai seguito pienamente Jahvè mio Dio”. | 9 And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children for ever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' |
| 10 Ora, ecco, Jahvè mi ha conservato in vita come aveva promesso, da quarantacinque anni, da quando Jahvè annunciò questa cosa a Mosè, mentre Israele peregrinava nel deserto. Ed eccomi ora a ottantacinque anni, | 10 And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness; and now, lo, I am this day eighty-five years old. |
| 11 ma ancora robusto oggi come quando Mosè mi inviava a esplorare; con le stesse forze, oggi come allora, per combattere e per andare e venire. | 11 I am still as strong to this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war, and for going and coming. |
| 12 Assegnami dunque questa montagna della quale Jahvè parlò in quel giorno, perché allora tu stesso lo hai udito. Là si trovano gli Anakiti e città grandi e fortificate; forse Jahvè sarà con me e io li caccerò, come Jahvè ha detto». | 12 So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day; for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities: it may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out as the LORD said." |
| 13 Giosuè lo benedisse e diede Hebron in eredità a Chaleb figlio di Jefunne. | 13 Then Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. |
| 14 Per questo Hebron rimase fino a oggi in eredità a Chaleb figlio di Jefunne, il Kenizzeo, perché egli aveva seguito fedelmente Jahvè Dio di Israele. | 14 So Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel. |
| 15 Hebron si chiamava prima Kiriat-Arba che fu il più grande degli Anakiti. Poi il paese riposò dalla guerra. | 15 Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba; this Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war. |
