Isaia 14

NOVA VULGATA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Miserebitur enim Dominus Iacob et eliget adhuc de Israel et requiescere eos faciet super humum suam; adiungetur advena ad eos et adhaerebit domui Iacob.	1 When the LORD has pity on Jacob and again chooses Israel and settles them on their own soil, the aliens will join them and be counted with the house of Jacob.
2 Et tenebunt eos populi et adducent eos in locum suum; et possidebit eos domus Israel super terram Domini in servos et ancillas; et erunt capientes eos, qui se ceperant, et subicient exactores suos.	2 The house of Israel will take them and bring them along to its place, and possess them as male and female slaves on the Lord's soil, making captives of its captors and ruling over its oppressors.
3 Et erit in die illa: cum requiem dederit tibi Dominus a labore tuo et a concussione tua et a servitute dura, qua ante servisti,	3 On the day the LORD relieves you of sorrow and unrest and the hard service in which you have been enslaved,
4 proferes parabolam istam contra regem Babylonis et dices: “ Quomodo cessavit exactor, quievit oppressio?	4 you will take up this taunt-song against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has reached his end! how the turmoil is stilled!
5 Contrivit Dominus baculum impiorum, virgam dominantium,	5 The LORD has broken the rod of the wicked, the staff of the tyrants
6 caedentem populos in indignatione plaga sine remissione, subicientem in furore gentes persecutione sine fine.	6 That struck the peoples in wrath relentless blows; That beat down the nations in anger, with oppression unchecked.
7 Conquievit et siluit omnis terra, gavisa est, et exsultaverunt.	7 The whole earth rests peacefully, song breaks forth;
8 Abietes quoque laetatae sunt super te, et cedri Libani: “Ex quo dormisti, non ascendit, qui succidat nos”.	8 The very cypresses rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon: "Now that you are laid to rest, there will be none to cut us down."
9 Infernus subter conturbatus est in occursum adventus tui; suscitat tibi umbras, omnes principes terrae surgere fecit de soliis suis, omnes reges nationum.	9 The nether world below is all astir preparing for your coming; It awakens the shades to greet you, all the leaders of the earth; It has the kings of all nations rise from their thrones.
10 Universi respondebunt et dicent tibi: “Et tu vulneratus es sicut nos, nostri similis effectus es”.	10 All of them speak out and say to you, "You too have become weak like us, you are the same as we.
11 Detracta est ad inferos superbia tua, sonitus nablorum tuorum; subter te sternitur tinea, et operimentum tuum sunt vermes.	11 Down to the nether world your pomp is brought, the music of your harps. The couch beneath you is the maggot, your covering, the worm."
12 Quomodo cecidisti de caelo, lucifer, fili aurorae? Deiectus es in terram, qui deiciebas gentes,	12 How have you fallen from the heavens, O morning star, son of the dawn! How are you cut down to the ground, you who mowed down the nations!
13 qui dicebas in corde tuo: “In caelum conscendam, super astra Dei exaltabo solium meum, sedebo in monte conventus in lateribus aquilonis;	13 You said in your heart: "I will scale the heavens; Above the stars of God I will set up my throne; I will take my seat on the Mount of Assembly, in the recesses of the North.
14 ascendam super altitudinem nubium, similis ero Altissimo”.	14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will be like the Most High!"
15 Verumtamen ad infernum detractus es, in profundum laci.	15 Yet down to the nether world you go to the recesses of the pit!
16 Qui te viderint, te intuentur teque prospicient: “Numquid iste est vir, qui conturbavit terram, qui concussit regna,	16 When they see you they will stare, pondering over you: "Is this the man who made the earth tremble, and kingdoms quake?
17 qui posuit orbem desertum et urbes eius destruxit, vinctis eius non aperuit carcerem?	17 Who made the world a desert, razed its cities, and gave his captives no release?
18 Omnes reges gentium universi dormiunt in gloria, vir in domo sua;	18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb;
19 tu autem proiectus es de sepulcro tuo quasi stirps abominabilis, obvolutus cum his, qui interfecti sunt gladio et descenderunt ad lapides sepulcri, quasi cadaver conculcatum.	19 But you are cast forth without burial, loathsome and corrupt, Clothed as those slain at sword-point, a trampled corpse. Going down to the pavement of the pit,
20 Non habebis consortium cum eis in sepultura; tu enim terram tuam disperdidisti, tu populum tuum occidisti: non vocabitur in aeternum semen malefactorum.	20 you will never be one with them in the grave." For you have ruined your land, you have slain your people! Let him not be named forever, that scion of an evil race!
21 Praeparate filios eius occisioni ob iniquitatem patrum suorum; ne consurgant, ut hereditent terram, neque impleant faciem orbis civitatum” ”.	21 He shall pass through it hard-pressed and hungry, and in his hunger he shall become enraged, and curse his king and his gods. He shall look upward, but there shall be strict darkness without any dawn;
22 “ Et consurgam contra eos, dicit Dominus exercituum; et perdam Babylonis nomen et reliquias et germen et progeniem, dicit Dominus;	22 He shall gaze at the earth, but there shall be distress and darkness, with the light blacked out by its clouds.
23 et ponam eam in possessionem ericii et in paludes aquarum, et scopabo eam in scopa destructionis ”, dicit Dominus exercituum.	23 I will make it a haunt of hoot owls and a marshland; I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the LORD of hosts.
24 Iuravit Dominus exercituum dicens: “ Profecto, ut putavi, ita erit; et quomodo mente tractavi, sic eveniet.	24 The LORD of hosts has sworn: As I have resolved, so shall it be; As I have proposed, so shall it stand:
25 Conteram Assyrium in terra mea et in montibus meis conculcabo eum; et auferetur ab eis iugum eius, et onus illius ab umero eorum tolletur ”.	25 Then his yoke shall be removed from them, and his burden from their shoulder.
26 Hoc consilium, quod initum est super omnem terram, et haec est manus extenta super universas gentes.	26 This is the plan proposed for the whole earth, and this the hand outstretched over all nations.
27 Dominus enim exercituum decrevit, et quis poterit infirmare? Et manus eius extenta, et quis avertet eam?	27 The LORD of hosts has planned; who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out; who can turn it back?
28 In anno, quo mortuus est rex Achaz, factum est oraculum istud:	28 In the year that King Ahaz died, there came this oracle:
29 “ Ne laeteris, Philisthaea omnis tu, quoniam comminuta est virga percussoris tui; de radice enim colubri egredietur regulus, et semen eius draco volans.	29 Rejoice not, O Philistia, not a man of you, that the rod which smote you is broken; For out of the serpent's root shall come an adder, its fruit shall be a flying saraph.
30 Et pascentur primogeniti egenorum, et pauperes fiducialiter requiescent; et interire faciam in fame radicem tuam et reliquias tuas interficiam.	30 In my pastures the poor shall eat, and the needy lie down in safety; But I will kill your root with famine that shall slay even your remnant.
31 Ulula, porta! Clama, civitas! Contremisce, Philisthaea omnis; ab aquilone enim fumus venit, et non est fugitivus in agminibus eius ”.	31 Howl, O gate; cry out, O city! Philistia, all of you melts away! For there comes a smoke from the north, without a straggler in the ranks.
32 Et quid respondebitur nuntiis gentis? “ Quia Dominus fundavit Sion, et in ipsam confugiunt pauperes populi eius ”.	32 What will one answer the messengers of the nation? "The LORD has established Zion, and in her the afflicted of his people find refuge."
