Apocalisse 18

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E dopo di ciò vidi un altro Angelo, che scendeva dal cielo, e aveva potestà grande: e la terra fu illuminata dal suo splendore.	1 After this, I saw another angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earthshone with his glory.
2 E gridò forte, dicendo: è caduta, è caduta la gran Babilonia: ed è diventata abitazione de' demoni, e carcere di tutti li spiriti impuri, e carcere di tutti i volatili immondi, e odiosi:	2 At the top of his voice he shouted, 'Babylon has fal en, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has becomethe haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird.
3 Perché del vino della fornicazione di lei, (vino) d'ira bevvero tutte le genti: e i re della terra prevaricarono con essa: e i mercadanti della terra si sono arricchiti dell'abbondanza delle sue delizie.	3 Al the nations have drunk deep of the wine of her prostitution; every king on the earth has prostitutedhimself with her, and every merchant grown rich through her debauchery.'
4 E udii altra voce dal cielo, che diceva: uscite da lei, popolo mio, per non essere partecipi de' suoi peccati, né percossi dalle sue piaghe:	4 Another voice spoke from heaven; I heard it say, 'Come out, my people, away from her, so that you donot share in her crimes and have the same plagues to bear.
5 Imperocché i peccati di lei sono arrivati sino al cielo, e si è ricordato il Signore delle sue iniquità.	5 Her sins have reached up to the sky, and God has her crimes in mind: treat her as she has treatedothers.
6 Rendete a lei secondo quello, che essa ha renduto a voi: e duplicate l'indoppio secondo le opere di lei: mescetele il doppio nel bicchiere, in cui ha dato da bere.	6 She must be paid double the amount she exacted. She is to have a doubly strong cup of her ownmixture.
7 Quanto si innalzò, e visse nelle delizie, tanto datele di tormento, e di lutto: perché in cuor suo dice: siedo regina, e non sono vedova: né saprò, che sia pianto.	7 Every one of her pomps and orgies is to be matched by a torture or an agony. I am enthroned asqueen, she thinks; I am no widow and wil never know bereavement.
8 Per questo in un sol giorno verranno le piaghe di lei, la morte, il lutto, e la fame, e sarà arsa col fuoco: perché forte è Dio, il quale la ha giudicata.	8 For that, in one day, the plagues wil fal on her: disease and mourning and famine. She wil be burnedto the ground. The Lord God who has condemned her is mighty.'
9 E piangeranno, e meneran duolo per lei i re della terra, i quali con essa fornicarono, e visser nelle delizie, allorché vedranno il fumo del suo incendio:	9 'There will be mourning and weeping for her by the kings of the earth who have prostituted themselveswith her and held orgies with her. They see the smoke as she burns,
10 Stando da lungi per tema de' suoi tormenti, dicendo: ahi, ahi, quella città grande Babilonia, quella città forte: in un attimo è venuto il tuo giudizio.	10 while they keep at a safe distance through fear of her anguish. They wil say: Mourn, mourn for thisgreat city, Babylon, so powerful a city, in one short hour your doom has come upon you.
11 E i mercadanti della terra piagneranno, e gemeranno sopra di lei, perché nissuno compererà più le loro merci:	11 'There wil be weeping and distress over her among al the traders of the earth when no one is left tobuy their cargoes of goods;
12 Le merci d'oro, e d'argento, e le pietre preziose, e le perle, e il bisso, e la porpora, e la seta, e il cocco, e tutti i legni di tino, e tutti i vasi d'avorio, e tutti i vasi di pietra preziosa, e di bronzo, e di ferro, e di marmo,	12 their stocks of gold and silver, jewels and pearls, linen and purple and silks and scarlet; al thesandalwood, every piece in ivory or fine wood, in bronze or iron or marble;
13 E il cinnamomo, e gli odori, e l'unguento, e l'incenso, e il vino, e l'olio, e la similagine, e il grano, e i giumenti, e le pecore, e i cavalli, e i cocchi, e i servi, e le anime degli uomini:	13 the cinnamon and spices, the myrrh and ointment and incense; wine, oil, flour and corn; their stocksof cattle, sheep, horses and chariots, their slaves and their human cargo.
14 E i frutti tanto cari all'anima tua se ne sono iti da te, e tutto il grasso, e tutto lo splendido è perito per te, né più lo ritroveranno.	14 'Al the fruits you had set your hearts on have failed you; gone for ever, never to return again, is yourlife of magnificence and ease.
15 E quei, che di tali cose faceano negozio, e sono stati da essa arricchiti, e ne staranno alla lontana per tema de' suoi tormenti, piangendo, e gemendo,	15 'The traders who had made a fortune out of her wil be standing at a safe distance through fear of heranguish, mourning and weeping.
16 E diranno: ahi, ahi,la città grande, che era vestita di bisso, e di porpora, e di cocco, ed era coperta d'oro, e di pietre preziose, e di perle:	16 They wil be saying: Mourn, mourn for this great city; for al the linen and purple and scarlet that youwore, for al your finery of gold and jewels and pearls;
17 Come in un attimo sono state ridotte al nulla tante ricchezze. E tutti i piloti, e tutti quei, che navigano pel lago, e i nocchieri, e quanti trafficano sul mare, se ne stettero alla lontana,	17 your huge riches are al destroyed within a single hour.' Al the captains and seafaring men, sailorsand all those who make a living from the sea kept a safe distance,
18 E gridarono, guardando il luogo del suo incendio, dicendo: qual vi fu mai città come questa grande?	18 watching the smoke as she burned, and crying out, 'Has there ever been a city as great as this!'
19 E si gittaron sul capo la polvere, e gridaron piagnendo, e gemendo: ahi, ahi, la città grande, delle ricchezze di cui si fecer ricchi quanti avevano navi sul mare: in un attimo è stata ridotta a nulla.	19 They threw dust on their heads and said, with tears and groans: 'Mourn, mourn for this great citywhose lavish living has made a fortune for every owner of a sea-going ship, ruined within a single hour.
20 Cielo, esulta sopra di lei, e voi, santi Apostoli, e profeti: perché ha Dio pronunzato sentenza per voi contro di essa.	20 'Now heaven, celebrate her downfall, and all you saints, apostles and prophets: God has givenjudgement for you against her.'
21 Allora un Angelo robusto alzò una pietra, come una grossa macine, e la scagliò nel mare, dicendo: con quest'impeto sarà scagliata Babilonia la gran città, e disparirà.	21 Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great mil stone, and as he hurled it into the sea, hesaid, 'That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.
22 Né più adirassi in te la voce de suonatori di cetra, e de' musici, e da' trombettieri: né ritroverassi più in te alcun' artefice di qualunque arte: e non si udirà più in te romor di mulino:	22 Never again in you will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet;never again wil craftsmen of every skill be found in you or the sound of the handmil be heard;
23 Né lume di lucerna rilucerà più in te: né voce di sposo, e di sposa si udirà più in te: perché i tuoi mercanti erano i magnati della terra, perché a causa de' tuoi veneficj furon sedotte tutte le nazioni.	23 never again wil shine the light of the lamp in you, never again wil be heard in you the voices ofbridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, al the nations were led astray by your sorcery.
24 E si è trovato in lei il sangue de' profeti, e de' santi, e di tutti quegli, che sono stati scannati sulla terra.	24 In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and all the blood that was ever shed on earth.'
