BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Avvenne similmente in Iconio, che entrarono insieme nella sinagoga de' Giudei, e ragionarono di modo, che una gran moltitudine di Giudei, e di Greci credette.	1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.
2 Ma i Giudei, che si rimasero increduli, miser su, e irritarono gli animi de' Gentili contro de' fratelli.	2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)
3 Si fermaron però molto tempo, predicando liberamente affidati nel Signore, il quale confirmava la parola della sua grazia, concedendo, che segni, e prodigj fossero per le loro mani operati.	3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.
4 E si divise il popolo della città: e alcuni erano pe' Giudei, altri per gli Apostoli.	4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,
5 Ma sollevatisi i Gentili, e Giudei con i loro capi, affine di oltraggiargli, e lapidarli,	5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.
6 Considerata la cosa, si rifugiarono per le città della Licaonia, Listra, e Derbe, e per tutto il paese all'intorno, e quivi si stavano evangelizzando.	6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,
7 Or in Listra trovavasi un uomo impotente nelle gambe, stroppiato fin dall'utero della madre, il quale non si era mai mosso.	7 they preached the good news.
8 Questi stette a sentire i ragionamenti di Paolo. Il quale avendolo mirato, e vedendo che aveva fede d'esser salvato,	8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;
9 Ad alta voce disse: Alzati ritto tu' tuoi piedi. E saltò su, e camminava.	9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.
10 Ma le turbe veduto quello, che avea fatto Paolo, alzaron la voce, dicendo nel linguaggio di Licaonia: Sono, discesi a noi degli dei in sembianza di uomini.	10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.
11 E davano a Barnaba il nome di Giove, e quel di Mercurio a Paolo: perché questi era, che portava la parola,	11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'
12 E di più il sacerdote di Giove, il qual (Giove) era all'entrare della città, condotti de' tori con le corone dinanzi alle porte, voleva insieme con le turbe far sagrifizio.	12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.
13 La qual cosa udita avendo gli Apostoli Barnaba, e Paolo, stracciatesi le tonache, saltarono in mezzo alle turbe, gridando,	13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.
14 E dicendo: O uomini, perché fate voi questo? Anche noi siam uomini mortali simili a voi, che vi predichiamo di rivolgervi da queste vanità a Dio vivo, che fece il cielo, e la terra, e il mare, e tutto quello, che è in essi.	14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,
15 Il quale nelle età passate permise, che tutte le genti camminassero le loro vie.	15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.
16 Sebbene non lasciò se medesimo senza testimonianza, facendo benefizj, dando dal cielo le pioggie, e le stagioni fruttifere, dando in abbondanza il nudrimento, e la letizia a' nostri cuori.	16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;
17 E con dir tali cose appena trattennero il popolo dal fare ad essi sagrifizio.	17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'
18 Ma sopraggiunscro da Antiochia, e da Iconio alcuni Giudei: e svolsero la moltitudine, e lapidato Paolo lo strascinarono fuori della città, giudicando che ei fosse morto.	18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.
19 Ma avendolo attorniato i discepoli, si alzò, ed entrò in città, e il dì seguente si parti con Barnaba per Derbe.	19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.
20 E avendo annunziato il Vangelo a quella città, e fattivi molti discepoli, ritornarono a Listra, e a Iconio, e ad Antiochia,	20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
21 Confortandole anime de' discepoli, e ammonendogli a star fermi nella fede: e dicendo, come al regno di Dio arrivar dobbiamo per via di molte tribulazioni.	21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.
22 E avendo ordinato (dopo l'orazione, e il digiuno) de' sacerdoti per essi in ciascheduna chiesa, gli raccomandarono al Signore, nel quale avevano creduto.	22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'
23 E scorsa la Pisidia, giunsero nella Panfilia,	23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.
24 E annunziata la parola del Signore in Perge, scesero ad Attalia:	24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.
25 E di li navigarono ad Antiochia, di dove erano stati posti nelle mani della grazia di Dio per l'opera, che avevano compiuta.	25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia
26 E al primo loro arrivo, adunata la Chiesa, raccontarono, quanto grandi cose avesse fatto Dio con essi, e come avesse aperto alle genti la porta della fede.	26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.
27 E si trattener non poco tempo con a discepoli.	27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.
	28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.
