1 Ed entrato in Gerico passava pel mezzo della città.	1 And having entered, he walked through Jericho.
2 Quand' ecco un uomo per nome Zaccheo: il quale era capo de' pubblicani, ed ei pur facoltoso.	2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. And he was the leader of the tax collectors, and he was wealthy.
3 E bramava di conoscer di vista Gesù: e non poteva a causa della folla, perché era piccolo di statura.	3 And he sought to see Jesus, to see who he was. But he was unable to do so, because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4 E porse innanzi, e sali sopra una pianta di sicomoro a fine di vederlo: perché era per passare da quella parte.	4 And running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree, so that he might see him. For he was to pass near there.
5 E arrivato Gesù a quel luogo, alzati gli occhi lo vide, e gli disse: Zaccheo, presto cala giù: perché fa d'uopo, ch'io alberghi quest' oggi in casa tua.	5 And when he had arrived at the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and he said to him: “Zacchaeus, hurry down. For today, I should lodge in your house.”
6 E quegli frettolosamente discese, e lo accolse allegramente.	6 And hurrying, he came down, and he received him joyfully.
7 Veduto ciò, tutti mormoravano, dicendo, che era andato a posare in casa di un peccatore.	7 And when they all saw this, they murmured, saying that he had turned aside to a sinful man.
8 Ma Zaccheo si presentò, e disse al Signore: Ecco che io, o Signore, do la metà de' miei beni a poveri: e se ad alcuno ho tolto qualche cosa, gli rendo il quadrupolo.	8 But Zacchaeus, standing still, said to the Lord: “Behold, Lord, one half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone in any matter, I will repay him fourfold.”
9 E Gesù gli disse: Oggi questa casa ha ottenuto salute: perché anche questo è figliuolo di Abramo.	9 Jesus said to him: “Today, salvation has come to this house; because of this, he too is a son of Abraham.
10 Imperocché è venuto il figliuolo dell'uomo a cercare, e salvare que', che si erano perduti.	10 For the Son of man has come to seek and to save what had been lost.”
11 E stando quegli ad ascoltare tali cose, continuò, e disse una parabola sopra l'esser lui vicino a Gerusalemme: e sul credere, che essi facevano, che presto dovesse manifestarsi il regno di Dio.	11 As they were listening to these things, continuing on, he spoke a parable, because he was nearing Jerusalem, and because they guessed that the kingdom of God might be manifested without delay.
12 Disse adunque: Un nobil uomo andò in lontano paese a prender possesso di un regno per poi ritornare.	12 Therefore, he said: “A certain man of nobility traveled to a far away region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 E chiamati a se dieci de' suoi servidori, diede loro dieci mine, e disse loro: Impiegatele sino al mio ritorno.	13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and he said to them: ‘Do business until I return.’
14 Ma i suoi concittadini gli volevano male: e gli spediron dietro ambasciadori, dicendo: Non vogliamo costui per nostro re.	14 But his citizens hated him. And so they sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this one to reign over us.’
15 E avvenne, che tornato egli dopo aver preso possesso del regno fece chiamare a sei servidori, ai quali aveva dato il denaro per sapere, che guadagno avesse fatto ciascuno.	15 And it happened that he returned, having received the kingdom. And he ordered the servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called so that he would know how much each one had earned by doing business.
16 E venne il primo, e disse: Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttate altre dieci.	16 Now the first approached, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned ten pounds.’
17 Ed ei gli disse: Buon per te, servitore fedele, perché se' stato fedele nel poco, sarai signore di dieci città.	17 And he said to him: ‘Well done, good servant. Since you have been faithful in a small matter, you will hold authority over ten cities.’
18 E venne il secondo, e disse: Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttate cinque.	18 And the second came, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned five pounds.’
19 E (il padrone) disse anche a questo: Tu pure sarai signore di cinque città.	19 And he said to him, ‘And so, you shall be over five cities.’
20 E venne un altro, e disse: Signore, eccoti la tua mina, che ho tenuta rivolta in un fazzoletto:	20 And another approached, saying: ‘Lord, behold your one pound, which I kept stored in a cloth.
21 Imperocché ho avuto apprensione di te, perché se' di naturale austero: togli quel, che non hai depositato, e mieti quel, che non hai seminato.	21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.’
22 Ma (il padrone) gli disse: Sa la tua propria confessione ti condanno, servo cattivo: sapevi, che io sono un uomo austero, che tolgo quel, che non ho depositato, e mieto quel, che non ho seminato:	22 He said to him: ‘By your own mouth, do I judge you, O wicked servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow.
23 E Perché non hai impiegato il mio denaro sopra una banca, che io al mio ritorno lo averi ritirato co' suoi frutti?	23 And so, why did you not give my money to the bank, so that, upon my return, I might have withdrawn it with interest?’
24 E disse agli astanti: Toglietegli la mina, e datela a colui, che ne ha dieci.	24 And he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound away from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds.’
25 Signore, risposero, egli la dieci mine.	25 And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten pounds.’
26 E io vi dico, che sarà dato a chi ha, e sarà nell'abbondanza: a chi poi non ha, sarà levato anche quello che ha.	26 So then, I say to you, that to all who have, it shall be given, and he will have in abundance. And from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
27 Quanto poi a que' miei nemici, i quali non mi hanno volato per loro re, conduceteli qui, e uccidetegli alla mia presenza.	27 ‘Yet truly, as for those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and put them to death before me.’ ”
28 E dette tali cose, camminava innanzi agli altri verso Gerusalemme.	28 And having said these things, he went ahead, ascending to Jerusalem.
29 E arrivato che fu vicino a Betfage, e a Betania, al monte detto degli ulivi, mandò due de' suoi discepoli,	29 And it happened that, when he had drawn near to Bethphage and Bethania, to the mount which is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,
30 E disse loro: Andate nel villaggio, che sta dirimpetto: e in entrando troverete legato un asinello, che non è stato mai cavalcato da alcuno: scioglietelo, e menatemelo.	30 saying: “Go into the town which is opposite you. Upon entering it, you will find the colt of a donkey, tied, on which no man has ever sat. Untie it, and lead it here.
31 E se alcuno vi domanderà il perché lo sciogliete, gli direte: Perché il Signore ne ha bisogno.	31 And if anyone will ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this to him: ‘Because the Lord has requested its service.’ ”
32 E quelli, che erano stati spediti, andarono, e trovarono l'asinello starsi nel modo, che egli aveva loro predetto.	32 And those who were sent went out, and they found the colt standing, just as he told them.
33 E mentre scioglievano l'asinello, i padroni disser loro: Perché lo sciogliete voi?	33 Then, as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 Ed essi lor dissero: Perché il Signore ne ha bisogno.	34 So they said, “Because the Lord has need of it.”
35 E lo menarono a Gesù. E distesi i loro mantelli sopra l'asinello, vi poser sopra Gesù.	35 And they led it to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they helped Jesus onto it.
36 E seguitando egli il suo viaggio, la gente gli distendeva sotto le sue vesti per la strada.	36 Then, as he was traveling, they were laying down their garments along the way.
37 Quando poi fu vicino alla scesa del monte Oliveto, tutta la turba de' discepoli cominciò lietamente a lodare Dio ad alta voce per tutti i prodigj, che veduti avevano,	37 And when he was now drawing near to the descent of Mount Olivet, the entire crowd of his disciples began to praise God joyfully, with a loud voice, over all the powerful works which they had seen,
38 Dicendo: Benedetto il Re, che viene nel nome del Signore, pace in cielo, e gloria nel più alto de' cieli.	38 saying: “Blessed is the king who has arrived in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory on high!”
39 E alcuni de' Farisei mescolati col popolo gli dissero: Maestro, sgrida i tuoi discepoli.	39 And certain Pharisees within the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
40 Ma egli rispose loro: Vi dico, che se questi taceranno, grideranno le pietre.	40 And he said to them, “I tell you, that if these will keep silent, the stones themselves will cry out.”
41 E avvicinandosi alla città, rimirandola pianse sopra di lei, e disse:	41 And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:
42 O se conoscessi anche tu, e in questo giorno quello, che importa al tuo bene: ma ora questo è a' tuoi occhi celato.	42 “If only you had known, indeed even in this your day, which things are for your peace. But now they are hidden from your eyes.
43 Conciossiachè verrà per te il tempo: quando i tuoi nemici ti circonderanno di trinciera: e ti serreranno all'intorno: e ti stringeranno per ogni parte:	43 For the days will overtake you. And your enemies will encircle you with a valley. And they will surround you and hem you in on every side.
44 E cacceranno per terra te, e i tuoi figliuoli con te, e non lasceranno in te pietra sopra pietra; perché non hai conosciuto il tempo della visita a te fatta.	44 And they will knock you down to the ground, with your sons who are in you. And they will not leave stone upon stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
45 Ed entrato nel tempio cominciò a scacciare coloro, che in esso vendevano, e comperavano,	45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold in it, and those who bought,
46 Dicendo loro: Sta scritto; La casa mia è casa di orazione; e voi l'avete cangiata in ispelonca di ladri.	46 saying to them: “It is written: ‘My house is a house of prayer.’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.”
47 E insegnava ogni giorno nel tempio. Ma i principi de' sacerdoti, e gli Scribi, e i caporioni del popolo cercavano di levarlo dal mondo:	47 And he was teaching in the temple daily. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy him.
48 Né sapevan, che farsi di lui. Conciossiaché tutto il popolo stava a bocca aperta ad udirlo.	48 But they could not find what to do to him. For all the people were listening to him attentively.
