1 Dodici anni avea Manasse quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò anni cinquantacinque in Gerusalemme.	1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for fifty-five years inJerusalem.
2 Ed egli fece il male dinanzi al Signore, imitando le abominazioni delle genti distrutte dal Signore all'arrivo de' figliuoli d'Israele.	2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahwehhad dispossessed for the Israelites.
3 Egli si rivolse a rimettere in piedi i luoghi eccelsi demoliti da Ezechia suo padre: ed eresse altari a Baal, e piantò de' boschetti, e adorò tutta la milizia del cielo, e le rendette culto.	3 He rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had demolished, he set up altars to Baal andmade sacred poles, he worshipped the whole array of heaven and served it.
4 E alzò eziandio degli altari nella casa del Signore, per riguardo alla quale il Signore avea detto: In Gerusalemme sarà in eterno il mio nome.	4 He built altars in the Temple of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, 'My name wil be in Jerusalem forever.'
5 Ed ei gli alzò a tutta quanta la milizia del cielo ne' due portici della casa del Signore.	5 He built altars to the whole array of heaven in the two courts of the Temple of Yahweh.
6 E fece passar pel fuoco i suoi figliuoli nella valle di Benennom: badava ai sogni, andava dietro agli augurj, attendeva alle arti magiche, teneva seco maghi, e incantatori: e fece mali gran di dinanzi al Signore, provocandolo a sdegno.	6 He caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom. He practisedsoothsaying, divination and sorcery, and had dealings with mediums and spirit-guides. He did very many morethings displeasing to Yahweh, thus provoking his anger.
7 E pose un idolo di getto nella casa di Dio, riguardo alla quale Dio disse a David, e a Salomone suo figliuolo: In questa casa, e in Gerusalemme eletta da me tra tutte le tribù d'Israele, porrò il nome mio in eterno.	7 He put a sculpted image, an idol which he had had made, inside the Temple of which God had said toDavid and his son Solomon, 'In this Temple and in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of al the tribes ofIsrael, I shal put my name for ever.
8 E farò, che Israele non muova il piede dalla terra, che io diedi ai padri loro: con questo però, ch'ei siano attenti a osservare quello, che io ho comandato ad essi, e tutta la legge, e le cerimonie, e gl'insegnamenti dati loro per mezzo di Mosè.	8 Nor shal I ever again remove Israel's foot from the soil on which I established your ancestors oncondition that they were careful to observe al I commanded them as laid down in the whole Law, the statutesand the ordinances, given through Moses.'
9 Manasse adunque sedusse Giuda, e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, perchè facessero più di male, che tutte quelle genti, le quali erano state sperse dal Signore all'arrivo de' figliuoli d'Israele.	9 But Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into doing worse things than the nationswhich Yahweh had destroyed for the Israelites.
10 E il Signore parlò a lui, e al suo popolo, ma non vollero ascoltarlo:	10 When Yahweh spoke to Manasseh and his people, they would not listen.
11 Egli perciò fece venire sopra di loro i principi dell'esercito del re Assiro: i quali fecer prigioniero Manasse, e incatenato mani, e piedi, lo menarono a Babilonia.	11 Yahweh then brought down on them the generals of the king of Assyria's army who capturedManasseh with hooks, put him in chains and took him to Babylon.
12 E quand'ei si trovò in angustie, invocò il Signore Dio suo; ed ebbe gran pentimento dinanzi al Dio de' padri suoi.	12 While in his distress, he placated Yahweh his God by genuinely humbling himself before the God ofhis ancestors.
13 E a lui rivolse le sue preghiere, e le suppliche; ed egli esaudì la sua orazione, e lo ritornò nel suo regno a Gerusalemme; e Manasse conobbe, che il Signore egli è Dio.	13 When he prayed to him, he was moved by his entreaty, heard his supplication and brought him backto Jerusalem to his kingdom. Manasseh realised then that Yahweh is God.
14 Egli edificò in appresso la muraglia esteriore della città di David all'occidente di Gihon, nella valle, dall'ingresso della porta de' pesci andando attorno sino ad Ophel, e fece molto alta questa muraglia: e pose dei capi dell'esercito in tutte le città forti di Giuda:	14 Afterwards, he rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David, to the west of Gihon, in the val ey, up to theFish Gate and round the Ophel, and made it very much higher. And he stationed military governors in al thefortified towns of Judah.
15 E tolse dalla casa del Signore gli dei stranieri, e quel simolacro, ed anche gli altari, che avea fatti sul monte della casa del Signore, e in Gerusalemme, e gettò ogni cosa fuora della città.	15 He also removed the foreign gods and the idol from the Temple of Yahweh, as well as all the altarswhich he had built on the mountain of the Temple of Yahweh and in Jerusalem, and threw them out of the city.
16 E ristaurò l'altare del Signore: sopra di quello immolò vittime, e ostie pacifiche, e di ringraziamento: e ordinò a Giuda, che servisse al Signore Dio d'Israele.	16 He repaired the altar of Yahweh and offered communion sacrifices and thanksgiving offerings on it,and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh, God of Israel.
17 Contuttociò il popolo immolava tutt'ora al Signore Dio suo ne' luoghi eccelsi.	17 The people, however, went on sacrificing at the high places, although only to Yahweh their God.
18 Il rimanente poi delle geste di Manasse, l'orazione fatta da lui al suo Dio, e le parole de' profeti, i quali parlavano a fui a nome del Signore Dio d'Israele, si contengono nei libri de re' d'Israele.	18 The rest of the history of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the prophecies of the seers whospoke to him in the name of Yahweh, God of Israel, can be found in the Annals of the Kings of Israel.
19 E le preghiere di lui, e il come egli fu esaudito, e tutti i suoi peccati, e il disprezzo (di Dio), ed anche i luoghi eccelsi, che egli fondò, e i boschetti, e le statue fatte da lui prima che facesse penitenza, sono descritte ne' libri di Hozai.	19 His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, all his sins, his infidelity, the sites where he builthigh places and set up sacred poles and idols before humbling himself, are set down in the records of Hozai.
20 Manasse adunque si addormentò co' padri suoi, e fu seppellito in sua casa; e Amon suo figliuolo gli succedette nel regno.	20 Then Manasseh fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the garden of his palace. His sonAmon succeeded him.
21 Ventidue anni aveva Amon quando principiò a regnare, e regnò due anni in Gerusalemme.	21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for two years inJerusalem.
22 E fece il male nel cospetto del Signore, come avea fatto Manasse suo padre; e sagrificò, e rendette culto a tutti gì idoli, che avea fatto Manasse.	22 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, as his father Manasseh had done, for Amon sacrificed to althe images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them.
23 E non ebbe timor del Signore come lo ebbe Manasse suo padre: e commise scelleraggini molto maggiori.	23 He did not humble himself before Yahweh as his father Manasseh had done; on the contrary, Amonwilfully added to his guilt.
24 E i suoi servi, fatta congiura contro di lui, lo uccisero nella sua casa.	24 His retinue plotted against him and killed him in his own palace.
25 Ma il rimanente del popolo, uccisi quelli, che avean dato morte ad Amon, dichiararono Josia suo figliuolo, suo successore nel regno.	25 The people of the country, however, slaughtered al those who had plotted against King Amon andproclaimed his son Josiah as his successor.
